I am a 50-something-year-old business executive who began taking beginner piano lessons with Susan Merdinger almost 5 years ago.

Now, I am performing Chopin Nocturnes and Preludes and cherished works by Mozart and Beethoven to name just a few.

My Mom let me quit piano lessons in 1967 when I was growing up on the Southside of Chicago. I spent the next 45 years regretting it.

Now, as my piano teacher, Susan is inspiring me to make up for lost time.

At the end of each year, I am amazed at being able to play pieces I couldn’t have imagined performing 12 months earlier. This satisfying achievement comes only because of Susan’s character and competence as a teacher and her passion and enthusiasm to motivate me to practice 1 to 2 hours every day.

Susan is patient while maintaining very high standards with a commitment to excellence. She celebrates the progress of all her students to whom she is dedicated. While waiting for my lesson to begin, I have watched in amazement as she interacts with a full studio of very diverse students, young and old, boys and girls, beginners and advanced, even handicapped blind and autistic students. I’ve watched as she’s brought smiles to all her students after their recitals and audiences after her own concerts.

And Susan is one of the smartest persons I know who is expanding my horizons of the classical repertoire I play and appreciation of the classical music I listen to. There is a special pride to see your piano teacher perform solo or with members of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra at historic venues in Chicago or New York City.

I am a busy executive, but my piano lesson is the highlight of the week, even if that entails a 90-minute battle in Chicagoland rush hour traffic to get to my lesson.

That’s because my life is richer with the music Susan imparts.

I can’t recommend her strongly enough.

For the last year I have been taking piano, viola and violin lessons online with DeAndre. He is a natural, insightful teacher and I look forward to years of lessons with him. I would absolutely recommend him.

I'm a beginner with the violin and viola and an intermediate pianist. I was doubtful at first that I would be able to learn through a video chat. I'm amazed at the detail DeAndre can pick up just by watching a video chat. There have been many times when we just did the lesson over the phone with no video and he was able to tell that my fingering hand was in the wrong position or I was holding the bow wrong just by listening over the phone!

On and off through my life I've taken piano and viola lessons (I'm 46) and was never able to get very far. I found my teachers discouraged me in many ways without trying to. DeAndre has been fantastic. With his instruction I've been able to do things I never thought I would ever be able to do. He's excellent at giving feedback about the things I'm doing wrong but in a way that keeps me positive and makes me aware of the things I'm doing well and the things I need to improve.

DeAndre is absolutely worth the time and money.

My daughter is extremely shy and introvert, she said she felt comfortable with DeAndre. From my observance of him interacting with her he is very patient and is able to work well with young beginning students. My daughter is 11 and her only experience was playing with her strings class last year in 5th grade. You can tell DeAndre has a very calm personality that translates into his lessons with his students. That is such an important quality to possess when working with young beginning students. Thanks for a great lesson we look forward to many more with you.

I've had the opportunity to work with people as young as three and as old as 62. But as far as piano goes I've had mostly students in the Pre-K and early Elementary age range. My piano lessons are fun, engaging and comprehensive. I don't use one method, but have studied many methods, developed my own and customize lessons to best fit the student. My goal isn't just to impart information about music or technique, my goal is to help my students develop within themselves a living musicality that will be with them throughout their whole lives, no matter what they choose to do with their practice.

About Andrew
I've been practicing and studying music for nearly 12 years. Conceptual performance, free improvisation and Sonic sculpture for over 5. For me, music isn't just about playing an instrument. A musical practice is an opportunity for incredible self growth. Excercise for our minds and awareness.

I've worked with students ranging from age 3 to age 62 in the year or so I've been tutoring. I've taught piano mostly ,but am more technically proficient with guitar(electic/acoustic/classical).

I'm a songwriter and recording/performing artist, my style is very ecclectic and inspired by anything from classical, jazz, avant garde, to pop and folk music. I'm confident and versatile. Im comfortable playing or even performing with most instruments. It's taken alot of practice, reasearch, experimentation, and collaboration but over time musc has give
n my experience life and enriched my life and those around me.

I believe in the cultivation of a living musicality.

My approach emphasises the importance of process, exploration and discovery, as well as the study and analysis of traditional concepts. I propose, active listening to be the simplest form of composition. And as musicians an active ear is central, not only in practice, but generally, for creative evolution and innovation.

I've found the most effective methods effectively balance theory and practice.

I believe the biggest inhibitor to growth, musical or otherwise, is a lack of confidence. A lack that comes from too much pressure to produce idealized results-- fear of mistakes...

I embrace the developmental process,
I work with every student to make each lesson plan efficient, meaningful and inspiring.

Mr. Lesley has taught my daughter piano for the past 6 years. In that time she has developed enough skill to be able to sight read and play just about any piece you put in front her. Mr. Lesley now helps her with her confidence and more complicated pieces. He has developed a relationship with my daughter to be able to understand what she is thinking by hearing what she is playing. She can be quiet and shy, but Mr. Lesley always takes a caring approach with her to bring out her personality and talent. He considers her likes and interests when selecting classical and popular pieces. Throughout the years he has coached my daughter in singing as well. Mr. Lesley is very flexible with scheduling if there is a conflict which is helpful to a mom of 3 kids. Pricing is also reasonable. We definitely feel very lucky to have taken lessons from Mr. Lesley for so long!

Rob Lesley (Mr. Lesley) is an experienced music teacher with a passion for music and teaching it to students. He is able to take traditional music/teaching styles and give them a modern twist to encourage and excite his students. Rob is always very patient and greatly flexible when it comes to making compromises (with lesson times, student's learning speeds, etc.) He's very understanding and provides constructive criticism in a kind way to help to improve greatly.
I, Chloe, a 12 year old girl who plays guitar, have been taking lessons with Mr. Lesley for 6 years. He always encourages me to do my best and because of all of the kindness and humor he always shows, I would never consider any other instructor. My brother, Brady, who is learning percussion from
Mr. Lesley, feels the same way and always enjoys himself during our weekly lessons.
In conclusion, Rob (Mr. Lesley) is an outstanding and irriplacible music instructor who is greatly recommended by my family.

I have been playing piano since the age of four and been giving lessons for about a decade. I primarily play jazz and latin, focussing on such styles as bop, blues, salsa, bossa nova, and reggae, as well as classical, rock, and hip-hop. A friend and mentor of mine once said "If you know how to play classical you can play anything; if you know how to play jazz, you can play with anyone." Whether you want to play your favorite pop songs as a hobby, become a pro, or anything in between, I can create personal lessons and exercises built around what you want to accomplish as a musician.

About David
I have been playing piano since the age of four and been giving lessons for about a decade. I grew up in a small town, playing mostly in the church and school band, where I started playing guitar, bass guitar, trumpet, trombone, euphonium and tuba. When I moved to the city, I began playing piano for ballet classes at Studio West Dance Academy, as well as joining various jazz and rock bands. In Fall of 2014 I began as a pianist for the Edmonds Community College Jazz and Salsa band, where I studied piano under John Sanders. As a part of this group I found my passion for latin jazz and fusion, and got the opportunity to travel to Cuba and workshop with the jazz band at Havana, Cuba's Universidad de las Artes. It was also at this time I began playing reggae as a keyboardist, vocalist, and trombone player with Cannon and the Lion of Judah, pla
ying more then 200 shows with Cannon between 2015 and 2017. In 2017 I received my AA from Edmonds Community College and began attending Central Washington University's music education program with a scholarship from their jazz program. As my mother is a teacher, I have always known that I have a passion for teaching. I began giving piano lessons to students in my mother's special ed class in the late 2000's.

I love music and I love to teach.
