About R. ROBIN

*** Specialties ***
Hi, I'm Robin and have been teaching voice, piano and music theory/composition for many years. I have had a professional career in singing, songwriting and performing, beginning at a very early age. I welcome new students and love bringing out the best in every individual. I also specialize in vocal audition preparation, bringing the student to a higher level of performance, ready to impress and make a great presentation when auditioning. I've had several students audition for The Voice and America's Got Talent, as well as, numerous local productions. Below I'll go over a few things I consider very important with a few of the subjects I teach.

For voice lessons, I specialize in teaching what the student has a desire to learn, together with great technique that will last a lifetime. I emphasize breath and diaphragm

control, flexibility and range extension.

For piano lessons, I combine great technique with a lot of music theory. For piano lessons, I do require the student having 24-hour access to a piano or keyboard. It's nice to have an 88-key, weighted key digital piano or keyboard. If you don't have an 88-key instrument, you want to strive for that. I prefer the student own a 'real' piano, if possible.

When it comes to composition/music theory, I love making it easy to learn, so it is never overwhelming. Learning theory properly can open up a whole world of songwriting. Having a heavy background in composition, I love the creativity that can happen utilizing the tools of music theory.

I can teach students with some special needs. Please use the tool "Ask A Question" to correspond with me more about this. Also, I do have 45-minute slots available, it may just not be reflected in my schedule, as the calendar doesn't allow me to show 15-minute time increments. If you have any questions about my schedule, please just shoot me the question and we'll talk about it!

My home studio is a fun, relaxed atmosphere and even though I focus heavily on technique, we're always going to have FUN learning and enjoy what we're accomplishing! Please keep in mind that when you schedule with me, I can only hold a time slot for one week for you. Also, if you are under 18 years old, you MUST have an adult sign up and pay for lessons for you. Thanks and I so look forward to meeting you!

About Barry

Hello! A little about me... I have a Bachelors Degree in Music, 15 years of performing experience, and 10 years of teaching experience. I would love to share what I've learned to help you find your authentic sound. I try to approach each student individually vs treating everyone the same, catering to learning styles and willingness to learn. I hope to see you soon!

*** Lesson Details ***
I think everyone is born with the capacity to sing, with their own unique voice. I think often times we "get in our own way" and hold ourselves back from truly realizing our potential. I would love to help find your true voice so that you can do anything you want, whether it's singing in the shower or in front of thousands of adoring fans at Carnegie Hall!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Practice rooms with upright pianos.

*** Travel Equipment ***
If t

here is no piano, we can work from the mp3 player or a cd player and make it work!

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in Jazz voice, improvisation (scatting) and Broadway singing. I am also trained in Acting.

About Detrece

DeTrece "Dee" Lavender is a native of Miami, Florida. When her family moved to Sarasota, she was afforded the opportunity to study music and the performing arts as a student of the Westcoast School/Henry L. Porter School of Music. It was then that Dee began to understand the power of the creative arts as an effective form of emotional expression and release. By middle school, DeTrece began fine tuning her natural talents by studying classical voice which earned her several starring roles in the Sarasota Youth Opera, The Aslo Theater and the Players Theater. She is also a proud former member of the Westcoast Black Theater Troop in Sarasota, FL. Under the caring leadership of these opportunities, she was able to combine musical and life experiences in order to offer a more well rounded educational and musical experience for her students.

She was awarded a scholarship to attend Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, where she received a dual Bachelor of Music degree in Music Therapy and Vocal Performance (Class of 2003). It was through her service as a music therapist, Millieu (residential) counselor and music teacher in the Boston City Public Schools/Greater Boston Metropolitan Area, that she began to feel the call toward a greater understanding of the gravity and role of the socio-emotional needs of students (and their families/villages) in urban settings. This call brought her to Baltimore, MD where she enrolled in the Pastoral Counseling Masters of Science program at Loyola University. In addition to her studies, she currently teaches Elementary and Middle School choir/ Musicianship teacher in the Baltimore City Public Schools through the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra's OrchKids Program. She also serves as Minister Of Music and Arts at two local churches.

I had such an amazing experience training with Detrece! She always has such sweet positive energy. I was so happy that with me being more of an advanced singer she was able to teach me about my voice and tips that I never knew! I only had 5 lessons and still had a vocal breakthrough where she helped me realize my range is wider than I thought. She gave me more confidence and is always seeking to share opportunities with me. I’m so grateful to her!!

As well as repertoire selection and preparation.

Including warm-ups, repertoire, vocal technique, performance practice, breathing, phonation, pitch, diction, and musicality.

About Mia

I am a professional singer and actress with opera and musical theater credits. Singing is my passion! I love to sing, and I LOVE to teach others to sing! The human voice is the most natural instrument of all, and helping others to bring out the beauty of the natural instrument that lies within them is something to which I am very devoted. I like to make students feel comfortable and at ease in lessons, and you will find that I am very warm and friendly!

Every student is unique, with their own strengths, their own areas for improvement, and their own preference for certain styles of singing. I can help you find what style makes your heart sing!

I have a broad range of credits, including the Broadway National Tour of Fiddler On The Roof with Theodore Bikel (Tzeitel understudy), and Off-Broadway in Fiorello (Marie) and The Rose Ta

ttoo (Flora). Among my many regional credits are Oliver at the Chiswick Park Theater in Sudbury, MA (Nancy), Camelot with Noel Harrison at the North Shore Music Theater in Beverly, MA (Nimue/Guinevere understudy), and Is There Life After High School with Desi Arnaz, Jr. and Sharon Lawrence at the Burt Reynolds Theater in Jupiter, FL. I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, where I had four amazing years working with the head of the Music Theatre program, the brilliant and innovative director, Worth Gardner, and music director, Oscar Kosarin. I have received additional training with many renowned pedagogues, including American actress and theatre director, Suzanne Shepherd, New York City, lyric soprano, Sari Gruber, mezzo-soprano Sondra Kelly, and coaches Arlene Shrut from the Juilliard School, Michelle Alexander with Boston Lyric Opera, conductor Gary Wedow, as well as Roger Malouf with the Metropolitan Opera.

Mia’s experience came through right away and I was glad I found her through this site. We started working on a few things to improve technique and Mia pointed out several major foundational concepts to begin thinking about. The lesson was a lot of fun!

She is amazing as a teacher and a singer. I was looking for formal training to advance in my singing and understand what I am doing wrong. And Mia have helped me so much in just 3 classes. As a singer I felt stuck and wanted to advance my skills and I was very doubtful of teachers but I can say with confidence Mia is the perfect teacher for me. She makes it so comfortable for me to explore my voice and range. So far everything she has taught me has helped me realize my mistakes that were holding me back from singing at my best. She is also very accommodating in terms of class schedule. I always look forward to my class with her.

Private Broadway Singing Teacher

I am a high school choir director and have experience working with all voice types, ability levels and experience -- and I love every single one of them! One of my favorite aspects of teaching private lessons is that I get to find out and help shape my students' goals, whether it be recording their own music, auditioning for music programs/competitive music scholarships, or simply gaining confidence as a singer! The sky is the limit and it's important to me that I am helping each student in the unique ways that they need!

About Jenna

I am a pianist, singer, choral director and lover of many different genres of music from classical and jazz to musical theatre and indie/folk. I graduated from John Brown University in Siloam Springs, Arkansas with a Bachelor's of Music Education, emphasis in Piano.

If you are studying voice with me, I think you'll find that I am passionate about connecting each of my students to the own unique beauty of their voice and using that connection to bring about free singing, confidence and musicality by way of foundational singing technique. I also have extensive training in a cappella arranging/singing if you are interested in learning how to start/direct your own a cappella group.

My training in classical piano began when I was five year old and I've had some incredible instructors along the way who have enhanced my skills in contempor

ary keyboard, including beginning-intermediate jazz and jazz improvisation. I love to teach students to read sheet music and pursue classical/technical excellence, but also to learn how to play music using chord charts, by ear or all three, depending on your personal goals and preferences.

With a passion for music theory and improv techniques, I love to help students who are aspiring songwriters to develop that creative side, especially in combination with learning piano skills -- they pair very well together!

The most successful musicians I know are well-rounded and have developed solid foundations in technique so that they can perform well in many different styles and adapt quickly. This is such a necessary skill in today's technological world where we can share music from across the world with a click of a button! In my lessons, I love to help my students study a variety of genres.

Speaking of technology, I'd like to make a quick plug for my husband :) He is a fantastic videographer and primarily works for a film producer in the DFW area, but he also loves doing independent creative work on the side. He has experience creating quality music videos and would love to create content for any student interested in this!

I really look forward to meeting you and helping you become a confident, skilled musician!

Jenna was way more than I expected. She is knowledgeable and friendly. My son is 7 and tends to normally get off track but she was able to keep him engaged the whole time. My son ended his lesson and kept playing even after she left.

Everyone chooses to take voice lessons for different reasons, but we all have to take the time to find our own true voice. I have ten years of experience helping beginners of all ages find a basic technique that helps them express themselves, entertain, and communicate with their friends, family, and larger audiences. My students have been seen on many professional local stages in musical theatre productions, as well as being accepted into prestigious university programs. A loving, creative approach with motivating joy helps students find the best in themselves and share it with their adoring audiences!

About Vanessa

Vanessa Christian is a soprano, music instructor and teaching artist living in Minneapolis, MN. Growing up in a tiny town on the Canadian border, Vanessa immersed herself in all things music from a very young age, falling in love with everything from Alanis Morissette to Les Miserables to Rachmaninoff, and everything in between. She is excited to pass on her passion for all things musical to her students.

Vanessa has a vocal music degree from Bemidji State University, with continued graduate work in opera, musical theatre, and modern American music at Longy School of Music of Bard College in Cambridge, MA. Other creative and scholastic pursuits have led her to places like New York, Italy, and Berlin, performing contemporary and classical opera, musical theatre, and choral works in nine different countries by the age of 30.

Specializing

in teaching practical piano to aspiring singers has caused Vanessa to examine what skills are necessary for anyone to become a self-sufficient, life-long musician. Whether you’re learning as a hobby or in hopes of a future career, music literacy and expression are at the top of the list. Miss Vanessa emphasizes both from the very beginning with motivating joy and a creative approach.

Equally comfortable with children and adults from complete beginners to early advanced levels, Vanessa teaches piano, voice, and combined piano and voice lessons. She feels so grateful to be a part of her students’ musical journey!

About Gina

I have been in the entertainment industry for over twenty years! I sing baritone in a competitive female barbershop quartet Fource of Nature, along with playing trumpet, harmonica, and lead vocals in my band Campus Drive.

My decision to acquire a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Vocal/Choral Music & Master of Arts in Education from Lindenwood University was based on my love of performance and encouraging today’s youth. She has taught ages that range from pre-k through adulthood.

I have been quite blessed to be teaching for eleven years and could not think of anything else I would want to be doing with my life.

"A little background about myself - I'm a mid-twenties male with a musical background but zero singing experience. Singing is something I've always to lear
n and after finally pulling the trigger on lessons, I really could not be happier with choosing Robert and Michelle. As he often teaches with his wife Michelle, you’re essentially getting two professional vocal instructors for the price of one! They’re both extremely talented singers and teachers with a great sense of humor. More importantly they’re just really good people. I was extremely nervous before starting lessons, but right from the first lesson, they put my worries at ease and created a safe and encouraging learning environment for me which leads to each lesson not only being incredibly fun, but also very rewarding. They will teach you the proper technique for healthy natural singing and give you many laughs along the way. Even though I haven't been taking lessons for long, after each lesson I'm floored to hear and feel how my voice is changing – I'm eager to hear how my voice develops over the coming months. Can’t recommend them enough!"
