As my first singing teacher ever I can say it was money well-spent. Very educated in the craft and motivational to help get you out of your comfort zone. Looking forward to taking in-person lessons with the same teacher when it becomes safer to do so.

Suzanne is a patient and kind teacher, with an exquisite voice herself. My daughter has learned much about controlling her voice, and is being exposed to new kinds of music. Suzanne deserves the highest rating for a voice instructor.

HI! I'm Emily and I am a professional actor/singer teaching voice lessons! With several years of teaching experience under my belt and an extensive music education, having gained a BFA in Musical Theater from the Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music, I work with all age groups and skill levels. To me, vocal health and pedagogy is the most important thing-- followed closely by creating a fun and engaging learning environment. Whether you are someone taking voice lessons for the first time, or an advanced student looking to work on a specific goal(s), I craft my lessons specifically for the student. Really taking into account your specific strengths and areas for growth. I prioritize a positive, enjoyable learning experience above all else. Singing should be fun! I can't wait to work with you.

Would not hesitate to recommend Emily.

Emily's background in musical theater is perfect for teaching our 10-year-old daughter! We signed her up for jazz to help her with choreography. We love that Emily teaches routines with Broadway music. She has also been very responsive by email, and Emily tailored our lessons to best fit our daughter.

My philosophy of singing is to ask these questions:

Was that sung with enough poise, ease, and elegance?
How can one release any extra efforts while inviting a type of freedom that is calm, collected, and dynamic?
How quickly can one repeat the fundamental function and feeling of healthy singing that is deeply connected to the body and breath?

What I hope to impart to my students are the following:

-a careful attention and detail to text and words
-becoming in tune with my the whole body, mind and, spirit
-allowing the student to learn to become their own teacher
-become a more complete and wholesome person in order to discover their individual timbre and voice in the musical world

About Rolfe

San Francisco native, Filipino-American Baritone Rolfe D’s performance highlights include Don Alfonso (Cosi fan tutte), Leporello (Don Giovanni), Figaro (Le nozze di Figaro), Achilla (Giulio Cesare), and Claudio (Agrippina). I am an experienced teacher of 4 years and NATS member, specializing in musical theatre and popular styles of private voice study. Royal Conservatoire of Scotland graduate with an MA in Musical Theatre (2017), as well as professional experience as a musical theatre actor at the Edinburgh International Fringe Festival, cabaret creative, Associate Member & Music Assistant with Original Practice Shakespeare Festival, and Music Director in the high school public education sector.
My educational ethos focuses on the individual student; the goal of each session is to support the student's love of singing by cultivating a positive relationship with the voice, trust and consent between me and the student, as well as develop tangible skill sets that both improve the voice from lesson to lesson, and increase the student's sense of control over, and understanding of, their voice. I work with my students to set goals, and encourage self-advocacy in my students, children and adults alike.

My 14yo has been taking lessons with Katelin for 2 years! He never sticks with anything this long but he LOVES his time spent with Katelin. He started with in person lessons, and switched to virtual during covid times. Katelin works with him to fully explore the music genre that HE is interested in, while teaching him about his voice, breathing and so much more that I do not understand but they now speak the same language. She also pushes him out of his comfort zone to grow as an artist. She gives him specific tasks/homework to practice and work on between lessons and monitors to ensure he is making progress and growth. This has been a wonderful enrichment for him!

"Mike's experience as a composer and vocal coach as well as pianist enables him to tailor lessons to the student's interests. I hired him to do a workshop with a group of flute students and they loved it so much a few who were only registered for one day came back for a second day! The end result was also so fun - these kids weren't singers to begin with, but they totally bought into the mini-musical they created. He has a great rapport with students of all ages - they love him and more importantly they trust him. Whenever anyone asks me if I know a piano/voice teacher I recommend Mike without reservation!"
