I have played upright bass for over 20 years and am classically trained. My methods will help you achieve your goals, ranging anywhere from working on orchestral or jazz repertoire, solo pieces, and any other musical interest you would like to learn about. You can even learn how to sing while playing the upright bass! Students of mine have gone on to advance to audition-only groups.

About Phillip
Hi! I'm a professional bassist in Austin, TX, and was gigging and teaching lessons full time here, before COVID. I'm still teaching virtual lessons, and hoping to find a few more students, since most of my income used to come from gigs. And there aren't too many of those around, these days. Drag!

I specialize in playing the upright bass, and I have a great time teaching it. I enjoy giving the student perspective on the instrument, explaining the entire double bass and the intricate methods I've used to master it, from Simandl to Rabbath.
I studied upright bass at two Midwest Universities, Northern Kentucky University and University of Cincinnati CCM. I have been playing the bass professionally in ensembles for years. I have experience playing jazz, blues, bluegrass, rock, folk, musical theatre and classical music.
About David
My name is David and I'm a professional musician who just moved to North Austin. I came from Cincinnati, where I went to the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music, taught dozens of students at all levels and played regular gigs every weekend. I have been teaching for over fifteen ye

Highly recommended!"

Darren worked with her every week for about 45 minutes on a particular jazz song. He introduced great techniques that enabled her to learn quickly and become more skillful. Those 8 weeks were very productive as she learned the entire song. Our daughter created 3 videos and Darren helped us choose which one he thought was the best for the audition. After several months, we received the news that our daughter had been accepted into the Berklee music program. Darren is a very positive and encouraging teacher. He is a very knowledgeable and dedicated music instructor and we are grateful to him for helping our daughter succeed. We will definitely continue to have Darren mentor our daughter weekly."
