Just like many aspiring musicians, I know what it's like to struggle to improve, only to be told "just keep at it" or "practice your scales." Wondering HOW the players I see manage to access all the notes so quickly and make it look so easy. Their only explanation being "it's like this- *rips gnarly solo* Most teachers will give their students boring assignments and tell them that one day, you can move on to something else... NOT ME. I will provide you with the tools you need to learn and improve.

Upright bass was the first instrument I learned growing up. I will pass on the most critical, simplified versions of everything related to bass and music theory. My unique approach will vastly accelerate the rate at which you improve.

And it gets better... Beyond bass I have used this methodology to teach my self numerous Brazilian percussion instruments, guitar, singing, and for you- any musical instrument you can lay your hands on. The magic is in the approach. I will give you real ...

"Ms. Fleming is an excellent teacher, patient, encouraging, and working from a
broad range of experience. As a teacher myself (English), I really appreciate those qualities. Her experience across multiple instruments and music genres is especially appealing to me, as I play several instruments and am interested in many types of music. She gives me hope that I can develop some facility on
upright bass, a dream I have had since I was a boy. (Note: Her insights into how to practice are really helpful.)"

"Alec has been helping my 11-year-old son with upright bass for almost a year now. We started out in home and switched to online during the pandemic period. Alec is a great teacher: patient, cheerful, organized, punctual, polite, flexible and able to connect with my son. My son is not always the most focused child, but Alec keeps him on task and, as a result, my son has been steadily improving. Alec was also instrumental in helping my son prepare for NYSSMA and the Westchester County orchestra, both of which are rather competitive forums."

"My 11 year old has attended an after school music program in our district for a few years playing the double bass. When Covid hit, she was no longer able to continue learning, but her music teacher recommended her to audition for a selective music program at Berklee College of Music. That's when I reached out to Darren via his website to see if he could work with my child for the 8 week period to prepare for the online audition submission.

Darren worked with her every week on a completely new song, introduced great techniques that enabled her to learn quickly and develop new skills. Those 8 weeks were very productive as my she learned the entire song, did the audition and was accepted into the Berklee music program. Darren is a very knowledgeable and dedicated music instructor and I am grateful to him for helping my daughter get into a selective music program. The online lessons from Darren are exceptional. You will not be disappointed with his instructions."

"Alec has been teaching my 14-year-old son upright bass for two years now. Not only has Alec been extremely professional, reliable, and accommodating as a teacher, he has transformed my son's playing from a virtual beginner to a well-rounded bassist who can hold his own in any rhythm section. Alec's style of teaching is accessible and precise --he has helped my son master the basics of technique while also inspiring him to build his musicality and love for his craft. I cannot stress enough how grateful I am to Alec for helping my son grow as a musician and as a person."
