My students have appeared on stages of all sizes, throughout the Northwest. From the beginner who just wants to sing in their shower to burgeoning professionals, I am happy to help!
Why Choose Carla:
• Work on your singing in a warm, friendly and private studio with an experienced teacher that makes singing fun! Students of all ages are always welcome!
• Member of the National Association For Teachers of Singing (the only selective professional organization for Voice Teachers) whose mission is: To encourage the highest standards of the vocal art and of ethical principles in the teaching of singing; and to promote vocal education and research at all levels, both for the enrichment of the general public and for the professional advancement of the talented.
• Voice students learn more then just how to sing, they learn how to be performers and musicians.
• I will not take on a student I cannot help.
• Voice students have MANY performance opportunities offered to them that are appropriate for their level
My unique studio uses the basics of Bel Canto technique to teach all styles of music to all ages. Parents often comment on how much fun their students have in lessons, while getting feedback from outside professionals (adjudicators, directors, etc) on how much their technique has improved. Adult students are commonly shocked by how easy singing can feel as they meet their career goals.
Current students can be seen performing with: America's Got Talent! Hardrock Cafe LAS VEGAS! Broadway Bound Bellevue Opera Puget Sound Concert Opera Seattle Gilbert and Sullivan 5th Avenue Theater Theater Schmeater 13 Coins Hwy 99 Blues Club The Showbox Chop Suey Dicken's Carolers And MORE!
I realize that voice lessons can be REALLY scary and I totally understand why, especially for kids and beginners! I do my best to use modern psycology and technology to help my beginning students feel confortable in what can be a frightening new endeavor.
Personal Performance Experience: Extensive lead and supporting opera performing experience with Bellevue Opera, Puget Sound Concert Opera, Skagit Opera, Tacoma Opera, Portland Opera,Seattle Gilbert and Sullivan, Seattle Opera and Seattle Youth Symphony. Prior to that spent 7 years performing Jazz and Gospel and 10 years in musical theater.
Personal Education: BA in Music from Seattle Pacific University 2002, MM in Opera Performance (Unfinished due to 1 year of German) at University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana.
Teaching Experience: 8 years as a private voice teacher in my own studio, 3.5 years teaching opera workshops throughout the USA, 2 years working in studio with local bands as a 'fixer.'
Have you tried lessons before and felt unsuccessful?
Not all students learn the same way and for years voice teachers have been treating every student as an aural learner. What I have found is that students with a history of struggling with matching pitch simply need to be taught in a different manner. That is why I now ask students to take a voluntary learning style inventory prior to their first lesson.
Visual Learner? Not a problem when "Adam" started with me he could only match pitch 30% of the time. But after finding that he needed to see concepts in order to learn them I have now made all of his lesson visually based and he is now averaging 90% pitch accuracy 3 months later.
Kinisthetic Learner? I had the hardest time helping "Clark" learn new music until we realized that by taking the time to have him play his parts himself on the piano he could learn them in minutes. He just is a person that learns by doing and now that we know that, music has become so much less frustrating for him.
Physical Learner? With "Steve" the traditional 'visualization' style of teaching that most voice teachers start with just wasn't helping him improve his sound and reach the high notes we both knew he had. After we figured out that he needed large muscle movements to understand concepts I added the use of a resistance band to his lessons. He has had so much success with this technique that he 'stole' my resistance band so he could use it in recording sessions and before he got on stage.
The stories just go on and on.

*** Lesson Details *** Students help structure their lessons by providing a general overview of their goals during their first lesson. Just as not everyone's voice sounds the same, neither does everyone's lesson!
A typical lesson begins with vocal warm-ups specifically targeted to strengthen the students technique and help them learn more about their voices capabilities. Next students work on songs of their choosing, that help them develop the freedom of voice, control, stamina and overall vocal health that they will need to be confident in their performing.
Additional opportunities for performance are provided for students as desired. These may include Karaoke Nights (for adult beginners), no-stress recitals, studio sing-a-longs, community choirs and small roles in local productions.

Carla is a teacher who focuses on each individual student. I have observed the results of her students’ success in multiple music genres. I have studied with Carla for classical training, musical theater, jazz, and audition prep, and have seen positive results in each of these areas. Carla really works to make sure her students gain experience (she often arranges public performance opportunities at venues such as coffee shops, etc.) and she makes sure her students are aware of (and prepared for) upcoming auditions. Each lesson is followed up with an email from Carla re-capping the main points stressed in that lesson. I highly recommend Carla, whether you are a beginner or a seasoned performer.
I focus lessons highlighting any genre around technique. Cultivating one's technique establishes good habits regarding things like breath, and posture, which will help maintain a singers overall vocal health. In addition to classical repertoire I have experience working with musical theater, pop, jazz, soul, and country.
Let's make some music!!!
“Music can change the world because it can change people.” ―Bono
“Where words fail, music speaks.” ―Hans Christian Andersen
Here's the why and how: As an educator, I've had experience teaching both young children and adults in many settings, whether it be in a classroom, small group lesson, or one-on-one. I pride myself on providing lessons that are uniquely individual and foster a students strengths while also building on their weaknesses. The best part about being a music educator is that I get to share my love of music with all of my students. With that said, whether you are a beginner who's interest has been sparked, or you have aspirations of becoming a professional musician I can help you there!
Lessons are catered to each student and are conducted in a supportive environment where students ar
e encouraged to take risks, try new things, make mistakes, and most importantly be themselves.
I value the time I have with my students and expect each student to come prepared to each lesson with an open mind and willingness to work. With music, the best results come to those who put in 100% both during lessons and during individual practice time. This is key in any musical pursuit. Overall, I want lessons to be enjoyable while still maintaining a sense of progress for the student.
Here's a little more about me: In 2005 I made my operatic debut in Italy with Operafestival di Roma in their main stage production of Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro. While in Rome, I was also featured in Pergolesi's Stabat Mater. Over the years I've been featured as a soloist in other concert and oratorio works such as Villa-Lobos's Bachianas Brasileiras No. 5, Rutter's Requiem, and Mozart's Requiem.
Along with my classical training, I've taken on several roles in musicals such as, The King and I, Guys and Dolls, Oklahoma, and The Boyfriend. I am an honored NATS (National Association for the Teachers of Singing) competitor, Peabody Scholarship recipient, and Bland Music Scholarship recipient. Recently, I had the opportunity to work with the Richmond Philharmonic Orchestra on their spring and summer concert series and was asked to perform the National Anthem and God Bless America at Game 2 of the ALDS during one of the MLB's 2014 postseason games (Baltimore Orioles vs. Detroit Tigers). When I'm not singing, you may find me enjoying a run through the neighborhood, or enjoying some time with my cat CJ.
I earned both my undergraduate and graduate degrees form the Peabody Conservatory of Music of the Johns Hopkins University.
*** Studio Equipment *** Family Room: seating for parents Studio space with keyboard, recording equipment, and parent seating available. **PLEASE NOTE I have a cat in the home** *** Specialties *** Voice and Piano Lessons Classical, Musical Theater, Pop, Jazz, Soul, and Country.
Chelsea is a tremendous teacher, with sympathy and patience for my absurd schedule and difficulty reading music.
March 25, 2019
I had a really great time and she explained so much to me that I wasn't really clear on.
February 27, 2019
I needed last minute coaching for an upcoming audition and was feeling unprepared and frazzled. Chelsea easily knew what I needed. She made recommendations, was wonderfully engaging, and her insight and ear highlighted some important tweaks that I would have overlooked in my haste to prepare. After just one session I felt clearer, calmer, and considerably more confident. Bonus: Chelsea is incredibly kind, fun to work with and makes you feel you already know one another. Chelsea has my highest recommendation
Gain the voice that can easily sing songs from more classical musicals to contemporary musicals. Gain a strong and consistent mixed tone (Legit and Edge/Bright/Forward). Eventually, student's voice will sound appropriate to what ever style of song they are singing. "Belt" in a healthy way by building up your mix. These lessons are scheduled weekly.

Whether you are a parent looking for instruction for your child, or for yourself, Rachel can customize the right program that best suits your needs. Her students come from all walks of life and have different goals, but they all have one thing in common. They love performing and have the desire to be the best at their chosen craft (singing/acting).
Some students want to sing/act for themselves, others want to sing/act for a hobby, and others want to be professional performers. That's where Rachel comes in. No matter what your goals are, she can help. Rachel teaches her students how to become true artists without tearing them down and without taking away the part of them that makes them unique. She teaches healthy technique that is based off of the human anatomy; the science of how the body/mind works and how the body/mind can work as efficiently as possible while singing or acting.
Learning how to sing/act is a process and doesn't happen overnight. Rachel's ultimate goal as a teacher is to not only make her students the best performers and singers they can be, but also give them all of the proper tools they need to have a more productive mind frame and become self-sufficient. Of course this can take years to master. It takes time and dedication.
OTHER LESSON INFORMATION
SINGING: Bel Canto singing technique for the modern singer is taught in private and group classes. No one sounds like old opera singers, even if the student wants to sing opera. Students are allowed to choose most of the material they learn in the lesson. There will be times when Rachel will suggest a song to a student but if the student doesn't enjoy the song, they will work as a team to find a song that does work for the student. Gain a better tone quality, complete control of your voice, bigger range, more flexibility, and confidence. Learn healthy voice technique, how to fully take care of your own voice so you can sing for the rest of your life (even after lessons), and become a self sufficient performer for life.
ACTING: Stella Adler, Stanislavsky, Chekhov, and Meisner Acting Technique for Theatre/Camera is taught in private and group classes. All students are exposed to each technique and Rachel sees which technique each student responds to the most. Once the student and Rachel are able to identify the technique, Rachel continues to use the terminology of that technique for the remainder of the time the student is in lessons. Students eventually are able to play roles truthfully and realistically, even if the roles are opposite of the student's own personality.
BY THE TIME STUDENTS GRADUATE FROM LESSONS:
1. Gain a lifelong, solid, consistent, and healthy technique that they can always count on in practice and performance.
2. Gain specific technical and personal notes in a notebook and/or computer file that is organized and always accessible for review.
3. Gain artistry, performance skills, and a strong voice that will look/sound authentic; Singers will sound appropriate to whatever style of music they are singing. (No fake sound or look.) Actors will just be in the moment and truthful whether they are on stage or in front of the camera.
4. Gain the confidence to always put on a great performance.
5. Gain focus and a more productive mind frame.
6. Become self-sufficient by knowing how to assess a problem and then fix it without creating a new issue.

CANCELLATION: 48 hour lesson cancellation policy and emergencies (determined by Rachel) are handled on a case by case basis. All students (or their parents/guardian if under 18) who have scheduled vacations and other activities (meetings, parties, school shows, concerts, rehearsals...etc) that interfere with the student’s regularly scheduled lesson time, need to contact Rachel as soon as the vacation/other activity is scheduled but no later than two weeks in advanced before their missed regularly scheduled lesson to prevent from forfeiting the lesson.
MAKE-UPS: Make-Up lessons will be scheduled if time allows. No Make-Up lesson or class will be given to ‘no shows’ or “late cancellation”, and no extra time to extend their lesson will be given to students who are late to their lesson or class. If there is ever a time Rachel is running late, extra time will be given to make the lesson a full 60 minutes. If Rachel needs to reschedule, a Make-Up lesson will be scheduled as close to the same week as possible. Make-Up lessons are scheduled at Rachel’s discretion.
ONLINE LESSONS FOR IN-PERSON LESSON CLIENTS: In the event that the student is sick but still would like their lesson, an online lesson will be scheduled instead. Students can NOT come to their in person lesson sick, coughing, sneezing, with a runny nose, cold, flu, allergies, fever, etc. (This is to make sure no germs will be spread).
An online lesson will also be scheduled if there is bad weather, if a student is having car trouble, or any other reason for the student not being able to physically get to Rachel’s private studio during their normally scheduled lesson time. Online lessons are conducted through Classroom, FaceTime, Google, Hangouts, or Skype.
SCHEDULE: Lessons are weekly, on the same time/day of the week unless we have rescheduled or we have discussed in writing another lesson plan. If the student’s lesson falls on a holiday, we will either reschedule or if no other day is available, resume the following week.
LATENESS: If a student is going to be late they need to contact Rachel as soon as possible, to let her know they will be late. Lessons will end on time unless she is able to extend the lesson due to a late student or her schedule allows for it though please understand, Rachel would be extending a courtesy and would not be obligated to do so. If on the rare occasion Rachel is running late, she will always make up the time.
SITTING IN: Parents/Guardians are ONLY permitted to stay for the first lesson and are NOT permitted to sit in for any other lesson/class unless invited. This is to promote good/strong teacher-student relationship quickly and easily. Also, many times students feel more comfortable when their parents/guardians leave. Of course there will be times when the parent will be invited back in at the end of some of the lesson to showcase progress.
COMMUNICATION: Due to Rachel's normally scheduling students one right after another without breaks, being in the recording studio, performing, or being on set, the best way to contact her is through text AND email. Please ALWAYS leave messages when calling Rachel with your name, contact info, AND the reason you are calling. Please be specific. Thank you!
"I try to be as fair as possible to both parties when it comes to cancellations, rescheduling, lateness, and make ups. Have a concern or question? Just talk with me. I'm all about communication!" - Rachel
Racheal did a wonderful job helping my daughter with her stage presence.

My 9 yr. old daughter received singing lessons with Rachel. Rachel was SO wonderful, patient, and creative with every session with her. She was constantly coming up with different ways to keep her engaged and was always reassuring her to increase her confidence. She gave great constructive feedback on how my daughter was doing and what she can work on to improve. I give her 5 stars! Thanks so much, Rachel!

Overall, very impressed. She is direct and doesn't tell you something you want to hear. Her evaluation process is well rounded and planned. She puts together a great curriculum to know what to expect in the coming lessons. Very easy going person and makes you feel completely comfortable at the initial lessons.

As a graduate of the Juilliard School and having performed worldwide, I want to share how fun, healthy and effective sing is possible with consistence and informed work! No matter your goals, lets build on the skills you already poses and confidence in your own abilities. Let's sing!
The key to great singing is enthusiasm, focus and some hard work. I have worked with students of all ages and my goal is to get you singing the right way and take you from shower diva to confident performer.
A LITTLE ABOUT ME:
As a professional singer and graduate of The Juilliard Sch
ool and working Opera singer, I have had the great fortune of training and performing with some of the best in the business.
With performances at Carnegie Hall and with major orchestras such as the Toronto, Vancouver and Seattle Symphonies and around the world, I feel this gives me a unique perspective on the challenges and successes that are possible with a fun, yet focused and healthy technique based approach. Whether a beginners, intermediate or advanced singers looking to hone your skills in musical theatre classical, jazz and even pop voice.
My goal is a well rounded, relaxed yet supported vocal tone with a focus on breath, and feeling rather than by ear. This ensures that no matter what the repertoire, the situation, or the acoustics of the room, you are always focused on healthy, articulate and projected singing.
Jonathan is a fantastic teacher! Having little prior singing experience, he made me feel at ease and comfortable starting out. He also really listened to my specific goals and what I was looking to achieve with these lessons and tailored the lesson to my individual needs. I would easily recommend Jonathan to anyone looking to work on their singing technique and confidence!

Jonathan is a fantastic voice teacher. Not only can he sing incredibly well but he can teach incredibly well too. He has a very strong background in vocal technique with an Undergrad and Masters degree in voice. Can't wait to continue to progress with Jonathan's help.
I've been acting and singing professionally in the Milwaukee area for several years for a variety of shows. I can show you how to sing and act in tandem with control over the voice but also emotion to suit the situation. I've taught students of all ages and experience levels from those just beginning to those already being paid to sing.
If you’re searching for a professional Music Teacher and Performer who can give you the personalized attention you deserve, look no further! I’m an experienced and knowledgeable teacher of singing lessons with a degree in voice education and state certification to teach music. I've been offering my instructive services since 2016 to clients in the greater Milwaukee area. I can help you unlock your full vocal potential by providing the technical guidance and fundamental skills you need in order to succeed.
My lessons focus on controlling the voice. For beginning students I teach the basics of posture and breathing that will lead to a healthy control of not only the voice, but the whole body. As we continue I move onto learning different individual skills based upon what the students needs most. Some of the most common goals of my studen
ts that I address are learning to sing with more volume without needing a substantial amount of effort, extending the range, and eliminating habits that can cause permanent damage later in life. For my more advanced students or those looking to sing a variety of styles I teach how to alter the voice subtly such that a student could sing drastically different songs with quality.
A recent Berklee College of Music Graduate, with over 4 years international experience, I teach a wide range of genres ranging from Classical to Jazz and Pop. I am a performing vocalist with two bands and play frequently in the SoCal region. Using this experience I will help you build a solid vocal technique with my vocal exercise regime. I am a professional singer from Dublin, Ireland. I graduated of Berklee College of Music, Boston MA, where I received a Bachelors in Professional Music (Summa Cum Laude), with concentrates in Contemporary Writing and Production, Vocal Performance and Songwriting. I won a scholarship to study at Berklee having completed a Jazz and Contemporary Music Higher Certificate in Newpark School of Music, Dublin.
Prior to this I was classically trained. I studied singing in the Dublin Conservatory of Music, (DIT), where I successfully achieved all eight grades at the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music in Classical Singing. I am a past winner of the Soprano Solo category at the All- Ireland Feis Ceoil- premier classical singing competition.
I am currently in the Irish music duo Buska, and Mawd, a touring Indie Rock band in Los A
ngeles. I recently toured with Mawd at the renowned SXSW music festival in Austin, Texas. As an actress, I had a principal part in the hit Irish TV comedy series ‘Damo & Ivor’ back in Dublin. The film, ‘Damo & Ivor: The Movie’, has just been released to cinemas nationwide (March 2018).
With over 4 years of teaching and over 15 years of Classical and Jazz training, I am well equipped to work with both beginners and advanced vocal students. As a student you can expect to see week on week progress. I use different vocal exercises and breathing techniques customized for your voice, recognizing that every voice is unique. I teach students how to release built up tension while applying the foundational breathing techniques every singer should know. I can help each student to sing with confidence, ease and expressiveness.
I look forward to working with you on your singing journey!
Hannah was a fantastic teacher- I was only able to be in LA for a short period of time but managed to have a very productive and useful singing lesson with her. She was very personable and friendly, while able to pinpoint areas to focus on and gave me a lot of great techniques to work with to improve. I'd definitely return to lessons with her when I can.
March 28, 2018
Hannah has been amazing in helping me learn how to properly use my voice as well as warming up for shows. She is incredibly understanding and makes you feel comfortable. Not only that, but she is a warm, sweet, and hilarious person to be around. I would recommend her to anyone!
Paired with years of performance experience, I have studied extensively in Bel Canto operatic technique as it applies to operatic repertoire, as well as Broadway and genres like Pop, Rock, and Jazz. I have a Bachelor and Masters of Music degree, both in Classical Voice Performance. Although my music training and specialization is in operatic performance focusing specifically on Bel Canto tenor repertoire, I have extensive experience teaching a wide variety of students varying in age, skill, and genre. I have used this acquired skill set to my advantage teaching voice lessons at the School Of Rock Cresskill, NJ franchise for over six years, as well as piano and guitar, who's lessons are also rooted in a classical approach. I also have 3 years of classroom teaching experience as a K-8 parochial school general music and choir teacher.
No matter what genre of music you sing, my vocal instruction is tailored to your specific vocal needs. My goals for you as a singer is to experience the ...
Looking to learn how to sing with ease? Looking for a unique and enjoyable process that will ensure your musical success? I offer a one-of-a-kind experience that will completely change the relationship you have with your vocal instrument.
My main focus will be to help you foster a balanced, healthy singing technique that emphasizes vocal strength, flexibility, and at the same time, longevity of your voice. I strongly advocate to and teach my students to develop a "complete package" to bring with them to their auditions and performances. To accomplish this, I push hard for my students to sing honestly and authentically, but most importantly, comfortably and effortlessly. Vocal instruction includes practice in sight-reading, rhythm, music theory, proper vocal technique, stage presence/etiquette, and confidence building (overcoming “stage
-fright”). In addition, I can provide you coaching in foreign language diction, as well as assist in preparing music selections in English, Italian, German, French and Norwegian; either for audition or recital prep.
Will truly is a master of the voice as an instrument. I've been working with him the last few months and along with improving my technique and ability, he has taught me the science and anatomy behind everything we do. I leave each lesson with more ability, knowledge, and even motivation. Will inspires to constantly push forward, and he practices what he preaches.
On top of all that, he also a genuinely great guy. The time together is as fun as it is informative. I can't recommend his coaching enough.
February 26, 2019
Will is amazing! He is an extremely kind-hearted, great person and an excellent teacher who truly cares about his students. My son came to him with some natural talent, but no technical foundation upon which that talent could flourish. He gave him the technique first, and soon after, he helped him master the art of expression. The voice can be so beautiful when technique and expression come together.
Our son began formal vocal training with Will when he was 15. Now, at 17, he's reaping the rewards of a beautifully developed voice. We highly recommend Will to anyone serious about singing. We are blessed that our son connected with Will when he did ... he is a musical gem of a teacher. Thank you so much, Will!
Quality lessons that are stress-free, and help you to become YOUR best version of yourself musically! All ages are encouraged to enter the vocal realm, and lessons will be adapted to the particular skill levels of the musician. Whether you desire to perform as a solo artist, or with a choir, you will feel well prepared and uplifted after every lesson. Your skills be heightened theoretically, fundamentally, and artistically as you exert yourself and implement what is taught. Are you ready? :)))
I have spent my entire life developing my skills as a singer, songwriter, and classical musician. Over the years, I have been awarded several recognitions regionally as a classical vocalist, and French Hornist. I have since ranged further into vocal technique, both classical AND contemporary style, as well as piano and guitar fundamentals. I also enjoy performing and teaching fingerstyle guitar(if you don't know what that is, I would 10/10 recommend looking it up on youtube.:) I am currently attending the BYU School of Music in Provo, Utah, and recently returned from spending 18 months in Thailand as a missionary. I love preparing and eating Thai food, as well as developing my relationships with natives through my thai language skills. When I consider the different influences and instructors who have MOST impacted my life, I remember thei
r genuine authenticity and ability to lighten even the most stressful of situations. As your qualified instructor, I will do my best to not only help you develop fundamentally and technically in your desired area, but also help you clearly see yourself as who you can become. THIS IS ABOUT YOU! LET'S DO THIS! :)
"Seriously... best teacher I’ve ever had. Thank you!!!!!!"
"Can't wait for the next lesson every week!
Fantastic teaching methods and high vibing energy. Makes learning fun and encourages students to push there
limits and grow to be the very best they are capable of."
"Extremly helpful of a teacher."
"Marjorie is a wonderful teacher! I am so impressed after just one lesson."
"Brett was very relatable and offered specific notes that were clear and easy to apply. By the end of the lesson, I had more tools to successfully tackle m
y next callback."
"Michelle and Robert are the most incredible pair I have ever met. They have such a passion for what they do and it really makes them shine. They believe i
n you and give 110% to help you grow and develop your voice to allow you achieve your maximum potential. Their lesson plans are customized uniquely to you so you can get the most of your time spent together, and the time you do spend together goes by so quickly! I have found stepping into each lesson very enjoyable and full of fun despite the milestones we're striving for during each lesson.
