Excellent Teacher

This is my first time playing the piano and I was a little timid about taking lessons. Janet is very easy-going and extremely cognizant of my abilities which has helped me to feel more relaxed and I have been able to learn a great deal from her. I am pleasantly surprised by how much I have been able to pick up in such a short time. She is a wonderful teacher.

I studied music and piano at the University of Central Florida. My main focus there was classical and jazz guitar, but I also had to demonstrate my proficiency in piano. I've been playing and teaching piano for six years since then. I've worked with young children, teenagers, and even adults, so I'm happy to work with new students, novice to intermediate, of any age.

Lessons are built on a foundation of reading music notation and basic harmonic theory. We learn everything from from Bach to Beethoven and beyond! I'm happy to recommend books for beginners, depending on the age and skill level of the student.

About Gio
I studied music at UCF (Orlando), focusing on classical and jazz guitar, but I also have years of experience playing rock, blues, folk, hip-hop, and musical theater on both guitar and drums.

I have been teaching guitar, drums, and piano for about eight years to students of all ages. Music is what I'm passionate about and it's what I enjoy. I want to inspire that same passion into the hearts and minds of others.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am a laid-back teacher, fun, and I focus on the needs, abilities, and ambitions of the student. In turn, students must realize that learning an instrument takes a lot of work and dedication. One can't expect to learn very much if s/he only practices or thinks about the instrument during the lesson. If the student is willing to put some time into practicing, then I will help them go far!

*** Studi
o Equipment ***
I have several guitars, a drum kit, djembe, mandolin, clarinet and full-size keyboard.

*** Specialties ***
Guitar: Classical, jazz, American or Irish folk, rock and pop; lead or rhythm.
Drums & Percussion: All genres
Piano: Classical (includes sight reading)

I've been playing the piano since I was six, and I've been teaching for over ten years. I tailor my curriculum to fit your interests and abilities. Although I play many different styles and genres, classical piano is my favorite subject to teach! Your true teachers will be Chopin, Mozart, Beethoven, Rachmaninoff and more. I love searching through the classical repertoire to find the perfect pieces for every skill level. Here are some sample topics we will cover:

--healthy and effortless technique
--fluency in music reading
--knowledge of classical repertoire
--memorization/performance skills
--basic scales/chords/arpeggios
--basic musicianship (including ear training, expression, style, performance, etc.)

About Joseph
My name is Joseph P. I began playing the piano and writing music at a very young age. I've been teaching for over ten years, and I love sharing music with my students. I specialize in piano, composition, and music theory, and I play many genres ranging from classical to R&B.

I'm currently pursuing a PhD in Music Composition at The Graduate Center, CUNY, and I have taught undergraduate courses at Queens College, CUNY.

Working with Joseph was a delight! He provided his services as an accompanist for a Christmas music video I was recording.

He was always punctual when arriving to rehearsals, scheduling rehearsals was a breeze, even with our packed schedules, and he was always prepared for each rehearsal with copies of the music I'd provided, as well as notes he'd gained by working through the music prior to the rehearsal.

He had a pleasant demeanor, and plenty of creative ideas for any places in the song that allowed for improvisation or personalization of the chords or phrasing. His accompaniment was the perfect companion to my singing, and could range many genres of music.

I also worked with him as the pianist in larger bands performing in the NYC area, and there as well, he was great to work with. Highly recommended! :)

Katie was a wonderful violin teacher for my son (four years old at the time). Katie knew how to make learning music and the violin fun through games and various activities. She was attentive and patient, kind and encouraging. She worked with us to allow him to participate in the annual recital--she played a simple, beautiful song while he plucked an open string. She is reliable, accessible, and caring. Couldn't ask for a better, more qualified, and dynamic teacher than Katie to facilitate a positive musical experience a young child.

I greatly enjoyed my violin lessons with Katie. She improved my violin technique, encouraged me to tackle challenging solo pieces, and helped me prepare for youth orchestra auditions. She also guided me in producing video recordings for my college applications. On top of that, she is extremely patient and cheerful. Katie is the best!

I am all about tailoring lessons to what the student wants. I have extensive experience teaching all levels of piano. I do expect students to practice but my teaching style is very positive and encouraging. I am able to provide references from former students/employers on request. The only thing I do not teach is piano playing by ear. I believe reading music is a valuable skill and once mastered playing by ear is a piece of cake!

Amber is a magnificent teacher. She has tons of experience, and can identify problems and resolve concerns instantaneously. She is not forceful and will gladly work in accordance with the preferred pace of the student. Overall she is incredibly knowledgable and if you work with her and adhere to her notes and suggestions you will notice immediate qualitative improvement.

I have been Caroline's student for several years now, and she is an excellent teacher. She is a superb pianist (as her credentials indicate), but she was also encouraging, supportive and attuned to me as a student. She was able to isolate particular trouble spots and suggest ways to fix the problems at those spots.

My goal is to bring out the love and joy of music in each and every child. To inspire and encourage growth in the arts. Being classically trained, it is imperitive for each one of my students to have a foundation of classical music. Learning how to read music and the theory of it as well (writing/bookwork study). Sure we can incorporate more modern styles but the foundation of classical can prepare you for any direction of music you choose to go! I started playing piano when I was 3 years old in southern California, (20 years of playing) competitively winning various competitions and completing Certificate of Merit testing all throughout. I've performed at many venues in California and trained with some of the best in The Ventura County. I started playing violin when I was 6 years old (17 years) also competitively, mainly through the Suzuki Method, which is what I use in teaching violin.
