About Radina

I am a dedicated vocal coach, musician, singer, songwriter and founder of "Vocals on Stage".
At the age of 6 I started playing Cello and discovered my passion for music but my main focus quickly became the instrument voice. I studied for years at the Unique Voice Studios - a private school for contemporary singing in Vienna and have studied Jazz vocals at the Schubert Conservatory in Vienna as well as private vocal coaches Rocio Guitard, Romana Caren Lakinger, Sandy Cressman, Monika Ballwein and others.
I have a Master of Science Degree from the University of Vienna and speak English, German, Bulgarian and French.

Since 2005 I have been studying and teaching "Mix" - a vocal technique which teaches students how to transition smoothly between chest voice and head voice and receive the full benefits of “both worlds”: the natural and p

owerful sound of the chest voice, and the beauty and range of the head voice.
I teach contemporary music, Pop, Rock, Soul, Blues, Jazz, R'n'B, Country and Musical.
For the past 8 years I have been working as a vocal instructor in Vienna, San Francisco and Los Angeles, giving private and group lessons.

Working with Radina is such a pleasure! She is extremely patient and kind. I truly enjoy the different methods she provides to help me improve my voice. Another great thing is her recorded lessons. I can always go back and review our lesson and go over things I needed help with using the recordings. She's also incredibly flexible with my hectic schedule, which is such a huge plus! I highly recommend her. Thank you so much for everything, Radina. You're amazing!

This is it!

I've been taking lessons with Radina for a few months and I'm super happy with the progress I've made so far. I didn't know anything about head voice, chest voice, mix and now it's all starting to make sense. I'm not afraid to sing higher notes which I always wanted to be able to do!

Radina is a highly professional and nice teacher, she really understands what is going on in a singers voice and mind and she hears everything.

I always look forward to my next lesson :)

Private Broadway Singing Teacher

I have been teaching this subject for over 13 years. There is no specific curriculum as each student will come to lessons with their own unique skills, needs, and goals. Lessons are tailored to those specifics. It is not necessary to know how to read music at the first lesson for beginners. However, learning to read is required for subsequent lessons and will be a large focus for all non-readers. Music is not learned "by ear." A certain amount of theory will be a part of every lesson just as technique and repertoire. Concerning repertoire, it will be selected primarily from the Broadway and West End rep based on the student's learning needs and with their input. The main emphasis on performance lessons, however, will be technique (enunciation, breathing, pitch/intonation, etc.) and reading. Students should come to the first lesson prepared to discuss their background & goals and the plan of their course of study.

About Troy

Composer Troy W. graduated from the New England Conservatory, earning his Bachelors, Masters (cum laude) and Graduate Diploma while studying with mentor Malcolm Peyton. After spending a year studying with Lukas Foss in Boston, Mr. W. moved to Houston in 2001 where he continued graduate studies at Rice University's Shepherd School of Music.

During his time as a teacher with the Michael P. Hammond Preparatory Program at Rice University's Shepherd School of Music, Troy taught classes in music fundamentals and music theory for pre-college students. He has also served on the faculty of the Summer Institute for Piano teaching courses in Form & Analysis for pre-college students.

Troy also has maintained a private studio, tutoring and teaching private lessons in composition, ear training, voice, piano, literature, and history for over ten

years. Students who have studied with him come from a wide range of backgrounds with different goals. Those who have continued with musical studies in college have consistently placed out of at least the first two semesters of music theory and achieved advanced placement in their chosen fields of study. Those who chose a different path continue to benefit from the education and training they received from taking music lessons.

*** Lesson Details ***
There is no "standard formula" to lessons. Each student has their own unique background, needs, and goals. Lessons tend to be somewhat casual but are structured in such a way as to meet the unique requirements of the student.

To accomplish your goals, there are a few requirements and basic expectations that the student and parent must meet.
The first is practice. Students are expected to practice daily for at least the length of their lesson time. This, above all else, is essential to progress. It is also expected that a parent will attend lessons for students who are too young to drive themselves here. It's important for a parent to guide the student's practice time (particularly for younger students) to ensure that the most is gained from it. This is why I ask that a parent observe lessons.
Each student or parent should bring to each lesson a notebook, pencils (with erasers). The notebook will be used to record notes about each lesson, homework, practice advice, etc. Pencils (not pens...nobody's perfect!) are used by composers to record their creations and performers to mark their music. Both of these essential practices are subject to changing thought and must be open to change. So no ink, please!

Performers: It is not necessary to know how to read music at the first lesson for beginners. However, learning to read is required for subsequent lessons and will be a large focus for all non-readers. Lessons are not learned "by ear." A certain amount of theory will be a part of every lesson just as technique and repertoire. Concerning repertoire, it will be selected based on the student's learning needs but also with their input. The main emphasis on performance lessons, however, will be technique and reading. Students should come to the first lesson prepared to discuss their background & goals and the plan of their course of study.
Note: Voice students must be at least 16 years of age.

Composers: Just as with performers, it is not necessary to know how to read music at the first lesson. However, learning to read is required for subsequent lessons. Many young composers have great ideas but can only hear them in their heads or play them on an instrument. Lessons will allow you to obtain the skills to write them down with greater speed, accuracy, and clarity. More advance students will also include exploring a wider range of harmonic languages, advanced notation, instrumentation, orchestration, and aural skills. Students should come to the first lesson with examples of their work, either written, notated, or recorded in a digital format. They should be prepared to discuss their background & goals and the plan of their course of study.

IMPORTANT NOTES:
• To reschedule a lesson, more than one day notice is required.

• Make up lessons must be scheduled before the next regular lesson.

• A make up lesson cannot be scheduled in place of a regular lesson.

• If, for any reason, two 30-minute lessons are scheduled one right after the other, they will be charged as two 30-minute lessons, not one 60 minute lesson which is a different rate.

• If, for any reason, two 45-minute lessons are scheduled one right after the other, they will be charged as two 45-minute lessons, not one 90 minute lesson which is a different rate.

• the studio space is also inhabited by two lovely cats. Do consider this when signing up for lessons.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Pearl River 48" professional studio upright piano
Yamaha DGX-650 weighted 88 keys full sized keyboard

About Rachel

Mezzo-soprano Rachel A. has captured audiences throughout the United States with her rich and warm timbre, beautiful blend, and dynamic stage presence. A native of Stockton, California, Rachel was born into a musical family and quickly developed an affinity for the performing arts. She first fell in love with classical music as an oboist and gradually found her niche as a singer through her passion for languages, literature, and theater. In the fall of 2012, she relocated to Connecticut where she continues to be an active performer of opera, oratorio, art song, crossover, and new music.

Most recently, she was seen as the mezzo-soprano soloist in Capella Cantorum Masterwork Chorus and the Old Lyme Congregational Church Choir's performances of Handel's Messiah, the mezzo soloisit in Vivaldi's Gloria and Magnificat with the Stamford Chora

le, with Hartford Opera Theater as Elise in Dawn Sonntag's Verlorene Heimat, Pythia in Nkeiru Okeye’s We’ve Got Our Eye on You, and as Miss Paige in Dan Shore’s An Embarrassing Position which was nominated for Best Featured Ensemble in a Musical through the 2015 Broadway World Connecticut Awards. She has also performed with Opera Theater of Connecticut, Connecticut Lyric Opera, Madison Lyric Stage, Greater Worcester Opera, Revolution Opera Alliance, the Simsbury Light Opera Company, and the Greater Meriden Concert Chorale.

Prior to moving to Connecticut, Rachel lived in St. Louis, Missouri, where she frequently performed with the St. Louis Symphony as a member of the St. Louis Symphony Chorus. She has also performed with Winter Opera St. Louis, Union Avenue Opera, and the Southern Illinois Music Festival. In 2012, Ms. Abrams had the opportunity to be a sponsored young artist with Winter Opera St. Louis where she performed the role of Echo in Ariadne auf Naxos, covered Musetta in La Bohème, and performed in the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical review: A Grand Night for Singing. Ms. Abrams has also performed with Opera Fort Collins, Loveland Opera Theater, Victorian Lyric Opera, and Opera Classica Europa in Bad Schwalbach, Germany as an apprentice artist. Additional operatic credits include Zweite Dame in Die Zauberflöte, Giannetta in L’Elisir d’Amore and Miss Pinkerton in The Old Maid and the Theif.

A passionate performer of Jewish music, Ms. Abrams was featured as a soloist in Martin Bresnick’s puppet opera, Der Signál, with the Hartford Independent Chamber Orchestra during the 10th Annual Celebration of Jewish Arts and Culture at Charter Oak Cultural Center in October of 2014. As an active performer of art song, Ms. Abrams has collaborated with various musicians throughout the New England region to create diverse and accessible art song recitals. In April of 2015, Ms. Abrams and pianist Michael Korman presented a recital featuring the works of Schönberg, Ruth Schönthal, Previn, and Weill with the Maurice Greenberg Center for Jewish Studies at the University of Hartford.

Since the winter of 2016, Rachel has been an active performer with Lollipop Opera Outreach. This touring opera company brings the joy of opera to thousands of school children throughout New England. This season, she will perform the roles of the Mother/Witch in Hansel and Gretel, Babe in The Three Pigs – A Pig Tale, and participate in the premiere of a new interactive “culinary” opera adventure: A Fairytale Kitchen.

In addition to being a passionate performer and collaborator, Rachel is a private music educator dedicated to the success of her students. Ms. A maintains a private studio of voice students out of her home in West Hartford, Connecticut. In addition to her private teaching studio, she is the alto section leader at St. James Episcopal Church in Farmington. She has also taught at Farmington Valley Academy Montessori in Avon, Arts Place in Cheshire and Summit Studios in Manchester.

As a voice teacher, Ms. A provides her students with a holistic, healthy, and age appropriate technique based on her studies of vocal pedagogy, years of lessons from master teachers, and her personal experiences as a performer. Through personalized vocal exercises and repertoire assignments, students will learn how to achieve a proper vocal onset, management of air pressure, increase vocal stamina, and maximize vocal freedom through balanced resonance. While Ms. Abrams teaches "classical" technique, her students apply her pedagogy to all styles of singing including, but certainly not limited to: musical theater, jazz, gospel, barber shop, and even rock!

Before opening her own private studio in Connecticut, Ms. Abrams lived in St. Louis, Missouri where she taught throughout the region. While in Missouri, she served as an Adjunct Voice Instructor/Lecture Professor at East Central College and a Private Voice and Music Instructor at St. John's School of the Arts.

In addition to her teaching experience in the Missouri area, Rachel was a Graduate Teaching Assistant at the University of Northern Colorado, where she was an assistant instructor for Music Survey and Music and World Cultures classes.

Ms. A holds a Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance from the University of Northern Colorado and a Bachelor of Music degree from San José State University. She lives in West Hartford with her husband Ben and their anti-social diva cat, Bonnie. She is currently accepting new students!

*** Specialties ***
I teach classical technique, specifically focusing on proper resonance and breath control. This method can be highly useful to broadway, jazz, popular or any other style of singing.

Private Broadway Singing Teacher

Paired with years of performance experience, I have studied extensively in Bel Canto operatic technique as it applies to operatic repertoire, as well as Broadway and genres like Pop, Rock, and Jazz. I have a Bachelor and Masters of Music degree, both in Classical Voice Performance. Although my music training and specialization is in operatic performance focusing specifically on Bel Canto tenor repertoire, I have extensive experience teaching a wide variety of students varying in age, skill, and genre. I have used this acquired skill set to my advantage teaching voice lessons at the School Of Rock Cresskill, NJ franchise for over six years, as well as piano and guitar, who's lessons are also rooted in a classical approach. I also have 3 years of classroom teaching experience as a K-8 parochial school general music and choir teacher.

No matter what genre of music you sing, my vocal instruction is tailored to your specific vocal needs. My goals for you as a singer is to experience the ...

About Will

Looking to learn how to sing with ease? Looking for a unique and enjoyable process that will ensure your musical success? I offer a one-of-a-kind experience that will completely change the relationship you have with your vocal instrument.

My main focus will be to help you foster a balanced, healthy singing technique that emphasizes vocal strength, flexibility, and at the same time, longevity of your voice. I strongly advocate to and teach my students to develop a "complete package" to bring with them to their auditions and performances. To accomplish this, I push hard for my students to sing honestly and authentically, but most importantly, comfortably and effortlessly. Vocal instruction includes practice in sight-reading, rhythm, music theory, proper vocal technique, stage presence/etiquette, and confidence building (overcoming “stage

-fright”). In addition, I can provide you coaching in foreign language diction, as well as assist in preparing music selections in English, Italian, German, French and Norwegian; either for audition or recital prep.

Will truly is a master of the voice as an instrument. I've been working with him the last few months and along with improving my technique and ability, he has taught me the science and anatomy behind everything we do. I leave each lesson with more ability, knowledge, and even motivation. Will inspires to constantly push forward, and he practices what he preaches.

On top of all that, he also a genuinely great guy. The time together is as fun as it is informative. I can't recommend his coaching enough.

Will is amazing! He is an extremely kind-hearted, great person and an excellent teacher who truly cares about his students. My son came to him with some natural talent, but no technical foundation upon which that talent could flourish. He gave him the technique first, and soon after, he helped him master the art of expression. The voice can be so beautiful when technique and expression come together.
Our son began formal vocal training with Will when he was 15. Now, at 17, he's reaping the rewards of a beautifully developed voice. We highly recommend Will to anyone serious about singing. We are blessed that our son connected with Will when he did ... he is a musical gem of a teacher. Thank you so much, Will!

I believe that singing is about so much. It is a way to express yourself, it is a way to gain confidence, and it is a wonderful discipline. I want to help you find YOUR voice. It would be so much fun to get to work with you on anything you might need: sightreading, Choral solos and music, your favorite pop or country song! Anything that interest you!

About Rosie

I am an opera singer and voice teacher. I received my bachelors in vocal performance from Oberlin Conservatory of Music, where I taught secondary lessons through the conservatory. I have performed all over the United States and in England. I am currently studying at The Eastman School of Music as a master's student.
After graduation from Oberlin, I began my private studio in Texas. My weekly lessons numbered around 60. Over the last 4 years, I have taught students with a variety of interests and goals. It is important to me to find the one thing that excites my students, be that a certain song or style, or maybe how to be more comfortable singing in their church choir. In lessons, not only do we work on vocal technique, we focus on what makes their voice unique, special, and all their own. Students will always have a new building block t

o practice each week. My intention is to inspire my students to have a discerning ear and to appreciate all that goes into making a voice work.
My students have been accepted to major college voice programs, as well as participated in competitions and summer programs around the United States.
