I'm a motivated and good listener teacher who loves to see his students accomplish their objectives. I have a Masters degree in Jazz from the Manhattan School of Music and a Bachelor in Classical Double Bass from the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, Austria. I'm a active musician, both as a leader of my projects as well as sideman. I have played all around Europe, Egypt as well as much around in the New York area. I have also released two albums under my name, composing all the music in both of them.

I have been teaching for 5 years. Right after finishing my Bachelor degree, I started teaching in two major schools where I taught double bass, piano, music theory and conducted the school's orchestra. Since I moved to New York, I taught through the Manhattan School of Music Outreach Department, teaching young students about Jazz and Improvisation. I have also taught privately in my home studio.

My primary goal with all of my students is to help them make great music that is true to themselves. I also try to stick with a sound-before-symbol approach to learning music. What this means for my teaching is a focus on training both the ears and technique. I always prefer a more personalized approach to teaching, working with students to find repertoire that speaks to them and improves their musicality and technique.

About Isaac

As I’ve developed my teaching style over the last ten years, I’ve found myself zeroing in on a few key qualities I want to cultivate in my students and in my self. These include great ears, a high proficiency on the instrument, and a strong and interactive sense of musicality. At the center of my p

Isaac knows his stuff. He has been great in teaching music theory and piano. Easy to get in contact with and flexible in scheduling.
Greg A.
Isaac is an excellent teacher and is highly recommended. His method is not centered on drills, music reading or repetition, but rather on getting an understanding of how the notes, chords work together. In so doing, the student gets a great understanding of theory and it opens the door to improvisation. In addition he's very patient with folks such as myself who don't come to class with a deep understanding of music theory.

I have just begun lessons with Isaac. He is an excellent teacher; attuned to my needs, very good at explaining things, patient, very good at getting me to understand what I need to know. I look forward to learning upright bass with him!

I like to think about myself as a facilitator that is here to help students achieve their maximum potential. I am always interested in what students need and what they have to say about music, and I believe that good communication is essential in any lesson. Over the years I have discovered that often times, I am the one who is learning in every lesson, and it is incredibly rewarding when my students achieve their goals.

About Adriana

I started musical studies when I was 9 at the Valencia Municipal Conservatory "José Iturbi". In 2013, I was admitted to the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMUC) where I obtained my bachelor in Music Performance studying under professors Jonathan Camps from Barcelona Symphony Orchestra and

Talented teachers are rare. Like a great coach i sports... the coach doesn’t need to be the top athlete in his field to know how to teach each team member to hone their best abilities, he just has to know and see how to teach you how to get there. Being an outstanding teacher is a great talent all in itself... and that is Jesse. He has that quality and ability to lead, focus and take you where you want to go.
Romy R.
Jesse has given directions on how to successfully become a better musician. His approach and explanation on musical theories was much more understandable than what I was previously reading. Overall, I found the lessons to be very usefull.

"Darren works hard with my son from the moment he arrives until the moment he leaves, and I can always hear big improvements in the quality of my son's playing over the course of the hour. Since working with him, my son has qualified for Northeastern Senior Districts Orchestra and the All-State Orchestra. He has helped him take his bass playing to the next level and enjoy opportunities that he may not otherwise have had!"

"Daniel is an outstanding musician. I have had the distinct pleasure of witness this both as an audience member at his performances and while performing with me in my jazz trio. Daniel has a deep understanding of both classical music as well as jazz, rock and anything between. And best of all, despite all his great achievements and talent, he comes across as modest person who gives you inspiration to live up to his standards. He has quickly become one of the most sought after bass player and instructor in this region. I highly recommend him.

"My 11 year old has attended an after school music program in our district for a few years playing the double bass. When Covid hit, she was no longer able to continue learning at the same level. Around the same time her music teacher recommended her to audition for a selective music program at Berklee College of Music. That's when I reached out to Darren via his website to see if he could work with our daughter for an 8 week period to prepare for the online audition. I have to admit, I wasn't sure how an online music session would work and what to expect. Needless to say, my husband and I were quite pleased and happy with the our daughter's progress.

Darren worked with her every week for about 45 minutes on a particular jazz song. He introduced great techniques that enabled her to learn quickly and become more skillful. Those 8 weeks were very productive as she learned the entire song. Our daughter created 3 videos and Darren helped us choose which one he thought was the best for the audition. After several months, we received the news that our daughter had been accepted into the Berklee music program. Darren is a very positive and encouraging teacher. He is a very knowledgeable and dedicated music instructor and we are grateful to him for helping our daughter succeed. We will definitely continue to have Darren mentor our daughter weekly."

"Excellent Teacher

Along with being incredibly knowledgeable, Alex has the patience and communication skills that really make him excel as a teacher. As a complete beginner to the upright bass (and music in general), I find Alex breaks concepts down in a clear, step-by-step fashion, so that it is not overwhelming. He also gives useful tips on how to be a better learner when tackling challenges, which helps make my personal practice even more effective. Alex is approachable and eager to answer questions even in between classes - I highly recommend him as teacher!"

"Alec has been teaching my 14-year-old son upright bass for two years now. Not only has Alec been extremely professional, reliable, and accommodating as a teacher, he has transformed my son's playing from a virtual beginner to a well-rounded bassist who can hold his own in any rhythm section. Alec's style of teaching is accessible and precise --he has helped my son master the basics of technique while also inspiring him to build his musicality and love for his craft. I cannot stress enough how grateful I am to Alec for helping my son grow as a musician and as a person."
