I have been playing piano for 30 years, and teaching it for nearly 10 years. I have experience teaching all ages, as young as 3 years old. You will learn all of the skills, techniques, and theory required to become a great piano player in any genre!

About Ian
A lifelong musician and songwriter, Ian S. has extensive experience teaching guitar and piano to students age 3 and up both as a private music instructor and as a staff music instructor at the Institute of Music for Children. With 28 years of experience on the guitar and 32 years on piano, Ian has studied and performed with several award-winning music artists, and has written, recorded, and produced over one hundred songs. He plays and teaches a variety of styles on both the guitar and the piano, from classical to jazz to rock. Ian is patient, friendly, and loves sharing the gift of music.

Ian was the guitarist in the Princeton University Jazz Ensemble for 3 seasons, was selected from a nationwide pool of musicians to perform at a special music event at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC, and was the recipient of the New Jersey Gove
rnor's Award in Arts Education for the category of Instrumental Music.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am very laid back and friendly, and I want you or your child to be as comfortable as possible during our lessons. You or your child will develop confidence and musical intelligence. I will make your lessons fun, enjoyable, and effective. Boredom is not an option! Music is fun... let's keep it that way.

The teaching methods I use will be custom-tailored to your individual needs, personality and specific musical goals. If it's guitar or piano you want to learn, I want to get you playing exactly what you want to be playing as soon as possible. That's what you're here for, and that's what I'm here for. I will make it happen. If it's songwriting that you want to learn, I will help you access that place inside of you that is dying to express itself creatively, and will teach you techniques to harness that energy and translate it successfully into musical expression.

You can expect to learn all the basics of music theory, proper playing techniques, improvisation and spontaneous musical expression, and I will help you develop your "ear" so you can figure out songs you like just by listening to them. This is all about you and your goals, and I want you to achieve them in a fun and engaging way.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Living room: Upright piano, guitars, amps, keyboard, percussion

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in pop, rock, classical, jazz, blues, folk, fingerstyle (guitar), etc. I also teach improvisation and songwriting, and try to develop the student's ear for figuring out songs they like on their own.

About Allison
Learn piano from a nationally touring recording artist, songwriter and composer with eleven years teaching experience. My approach to teaching piano is holistic, incorporating music theory, ear training, healthy physical technique, improvisation and sight reading. I have over eleven years experience teaching students of all ages, and I enjoy working with each student individually to build on their strengths and help them develop in the areas they find more challenging.

An EMMY-nominated film composer, I also teach songwriting for students interested in composition. Lessons are tailored to each student, incorporating a diverse mix of classical and contemporary repertoire and a practice plan that addresses each student's needs and musical goals.

Drawing upon my extensive background as a performer in music and theater, I encourage stu
dents to take creative risks, to be expressive, and above all, to play with joy! All students have the opportunity to share their progress with family and friends during fun, low-stress, semi-annual recitals. (Participation is optional but highly encouraged!)

Teaching Materials:
I use the Faber and Faber Piano Adventures books as a foundation, but also incorporate other music, including classical, pop and theatre music, depending upon student interest and what I feel will best help my students to stretch and grow! Students are also welcome to request pieces they would like to learn; I will do my best to find or create an arrangement that's appropriate to your current skill level.

Piano was my first instrument, and I firmly believe it to be an important tool in composition, music theory and multi-instrumentalism. I try hard to make playing piano fun, and emphasize technical study through Sonatinas and well known pieces!

About Ari
My name is Ari Fiekowsky, I'm 22 years old.

Currently I'm studying at Kean University, for a degree in Music Education K-12 with Teacher Certification.

I am a 3.8 GPA student who has been studying cello since I was 8 and piano since I was 3, and the other strings instruments since I was 15. I have always been good at all subjects, but have had a love for music. Music can benefit the brain in incredible ways, especially for children! Please ask me about these benefits and I can give you supportive academic research.

I have a permissive teaching style that is sensitive to developmental disability and mental illness, but also can be quite harrowing and strict if you have the desire to truly become a great musician. I practice all my instruments daily--I expect my students to do the same. :)

My specialties are strings, music the
ory, and piano. I'm very energetic and expect genuine effort from all my students. I try to make things fun, so I hope you try too!

Strict but enjoyable and extremely rewarding piano lessons with a teacher that performs in concerts worldwide and studied at the most renowned Universities.

About Robin
Praised for his “stunning bravura and seemingly unlimited virtuosity” (Epoch Times) and “nimbleness at the keys” (Cologne-City News), German-Bulgarian pianist Robin Giesbrecht has been celebrated internationally with a career reaching mature artistry. Since winning the International Grotrian-Steinweg Competition and the NDR Arts Prize, Mr. Giesbrecht has enjoyed performances with orchestras throughout Europe, Asia and North America, including debuts with the NDR Radio Philharmonic.

Robin Giesbrecht’s recital performances include critically-acclaimed debuts at the Hamburg Philharmonic Hall, Carnegie Hall’s Weil Recital Hall, Beijing’s National Conservatory Recital Hall and a performance of his own piano concerto at Lincoln Center in 2015. His chamber music collaborations include performances with the famed Szymanowski Quartet. He has perf
ormed at music festivals such as Music Academy of the West, Oxford Philharmonic Piano Festival, Piano Texas, Menuhin Festival in Gstaad and the Sommerakademie Mozarteum, Salzburg.

An internationally renowned pianist from a young age as a first-prize winner at the Rotary International Competition in Essen and the National Competition of Germany, Mr. Giesbrecht became a student of famed pedagogue Karl-Heinz Kämmerling at the age of 8. In 2006, the Austrian TV channel ORF filmed in honor of Mozart’s anniversary a movie in which Mr. Giesbrecht, dressed as Mozart, performed on Mozart’s original pianoforte in Salzburg, an event that was broadcasted worldwide. In 2008, the German TV channel WDR made a documentary about the life of the young pianist.
Robin Giesbrecht, a Steinway Artist, was awarded the Vladimir Horowitz scholarship at the Juilliard School as a student of Jerome Lowenthal and Joseph Kalichstein, where he received his undergraduate degree. He recently graduated with a Master of Music degree as a scholarship student from the Yale School of Music, where he studied with Peter Frankl.

There are obvious fundamental concepts that need to be covered, but my main goal with teaching music is catering lessons towards the students end goal. They will lose all intrinsic motivation if they are learning based on external factors such as fear, rewards, etc. I also have an extensive background in improvisation which is an under-appreciated form of expression. Improvisation equates to spontaneous composition.

About John
I have had formal music lessons (starting from my father) since the age of seven. Private lessons have had the most impact on my growth as an individual. Since graduating from Rutgers, I have held residencies, gigged about 4-5 times per week, managed a coffee shop and am constantly challenging myself. I believe everyone is capable and creative and certain teachers and/or education systems strip away these capabilities. I am very excited to hopefully be teaching full time :)
