My experience with this teacher was horrible. Paul has no patience for a child that might not pay attention as much as necessary. He has forgotten what it is to be a child or how to win over a child and make a lesson fun.
My child had one previous lesson with Paul. It is true that she was not following his directions and his frustration was quite obvious.
On my second visit I was appalled by Paul’s behavior. Again my child wouldn’t sit down on the bench correctly. Verbatim this what occurred next, I quote: “This is not going to work out. Get out of my house NOW, NOW!(Screaming, like I was going to prolong this). I have better things to do than waste my time with your daughter. I don’t want to take your money.

It is true that my daughter can be difficult when approached in an authoritarian manner. However, my daughter is not yet six and Paul brought my daughter to tears. Surely this behavior was at best inappropriate and says more about the person Paul is than about my daughter. A simple “ May I have word with you in private” would be a mature way to part company. Not throwing a 6 year out of your house because you are frustrated. I was horribly offended by his manner and attitude. No way to treat a 6 year old.

This man has no patience with young kids. I would stay away from this teacher unless your child has some experience with piano. Definitely not child friendly.
Normally I do not post reviews unless something extraordinary happens This is one of those: extraordinarily bad.
An apology is in order if this poor excuse for a “teacher” has any understanding of the unnecessary hurt he has caused.

Hello, my name is Ms. Violet. I am a classical soprano and I have many years of experience at teaching private voice and piano lessons. I have a Bachelors of Music degree in Voice Performance. I was awarded the Louise Moore Pine Music Scholarship and I graduated with a summa cum laude. I have taught students who have been accepted into the Lehigh Valley Performing Arts Charter School. I teach classical and musical theater voice and classical piano. I can teach any age, but I specialize in teaching piano to preschool and kindergarten students. I also offer performance and audition preparation lessons as well as music theory lessons. I help all my students to become a "singing actress/ actor." My belief is that expressing the music is the most important aspect of being a performance artist. I accompany all my voice students on the piano. I like to give all my students a well- rounded education in music. So, I do incorporate basic music theory and ear training into my lessons. I do offer

In my lessons, we will cover technique, scales, and repertoire. I do emphasize basic theory to help students better understand the music and learn pieces more quickly. While working on these technicalities, I also try to make lessons fun and engaging so that the music has depth and a natural flow rather than mechanical approach that tends to make music dry and robotic.

About Christina

My name is Christina and I am very passionate about the vocal arts, specifically Opera. Opera was a surprise in my life that I discovered in college. I am now currently pursuing my MM degree in vocal arts at UCLA. The classical technique can provide a great foundation to healthy singing, ensuring a

"I received classical piano lessons from Dr. Backus for almost two years before college. In those two years, I grew so much in my playing and in my love for music. Dr. Backus has a deep passion for music and her students. In my lessons, Dr. Backus incorporated extensive knowledge about music history, theory and technique. Our goal was to build knowledge and technique so that I could freely create and make a beautiful sound with each piece. After taking lessons from her, I LOVE the piano. Dr. Backus taught me how to express music from my heart, and it was a privilege to learn from her and know her. I would highly recommend her for piano lessons!"

"It was a pleasure working with Tamari Witkin over the years that she was located in Milford and participated in the Schubert Club of Fairfield County. I am familiar with her piano performance, which was high level, showing fine musicianship and great sensitivity to the message of the pieces.
I have also sung with her; and again, she shows a high degree of musicianship!"

"Remi is very professional, but still makes lessons fun and light-hearted. I especially appreciate his need of explaining that when he critiques, it is not out of malice, but rather, out of wanting you to do your absolute best that he knows you are capable of doing. He believes in you, and that's an incredibly important trait to have being a teacher!

I love the incentives he gives, as well. This means that when you play "perfectly", he offers to accompany you with his guitar. When this happens for me, I feel like I am an accomplished pianist. I cannot wait for lessons every week. He and his wife are both absolute joys to be around in general!"

"Concetta is kind and patient and extremely knowledgeable about what it takes to learn an instrument. Her training at Columbia University shows in every lesson. Just because you are an excellent musician does not necessarily translate into an excellent teacher, but her grasp of the pedagogy is clear. I would highly recommend Concetta to anyone at any age looking to learn to play."

"My granddaughter has been taking lessons with Miss Cindy for approx. 1 year.
Her first performance (recital), she got a superior rating and was highly encouraged to continue. This performance was held at UNLV and she received no points, I think because she wasn't yet eligible for points. She had not been playing very long.
Her second was held at same location was the NFMC Junior Festival on 3/07/15. She again received a superior rating, with more encouragement. This one, she did receive points. I'm still not sure how that works. I'm always just so happy to hear her and Miss Cindy play together!
I attribute all of this to Miss Cindy and her wonderful understanding not only of the piano, but of how to teach young children. And I believe she tailors all lessons to that particular child's needs and wants. Miss Cindy makes the lessons incredibly fun and is so very gentle with constructive criticism, that my granddaughter really wants to do her very best every time. And, she understands how very important it is to practice because she aspires to play as well as her teacher!
She can't wait to go to her lessons, and can't wait to show the family what she has learned.
Honestly (I play myself), if you are looking for a classical piano teacher, Cindy Jihyun L. should be your first choice. Even if it's a bit more of a drive than you want, Miss Cindy is the epitome of a Classical Pianist! She is well worth the time, and so worth the cost of lessons.
Here's the trick. Make sure your child practices, and that it isn't drudgery. Don't choose the piano for your child. Let your child choose the piano. And choose this teacher. I promise, you'll be glad you did."
