I've been teaching piano for more than 15 years. My teaching philosophy is based on emphasizing individuality of each student. I teach students ages 5 through adult, and try to find a way to make it interesting, exciting, intellectually stimulating and rewarding for each individual. Within first few lessons a student will be able to play simple tunes with both hands. I start with Dozen a Day books and continue with scales, arpeggio, chord progressions as well as etudes for technique development. I use Celebrate Piano Books and supplement with different sight reading material to teach note recognition, musicianship, music theory and sight reading. I also use Suzuki books and various repertoire books including Russian method books in my lessons. I prepare students for annual MEA auditions, recitals and competitions.

About Luba

A native of St. Petersburg, Russia, Ms Luba S. started playing piano at the age of 6 and continued her musical studies at Mussorgsky School of Music and later at St. Petersburg State Conservatory. Her concert appearances in Russia included performances with orchestra and solo recitals at St. Peters

As an adult beginner student, I was a bit nervous about starting lessons past childhood. However, I enjoyed playing the few tunes I did know and decided to begin lessons with Luba because of the other outstanding reviews she has online. I am very delighted to say that these are all very true, and I could not have been happier with my experience.

From the first lesson, Luba quickly identified my strengths and weaknesses and was able to provide just the right personalized guidance for me to expand my abilities. That first lesson left me with so much more than I had come in with that I was amazed at how manageable Luba was able to make the piano. Enthusiastically, I practiced the pieces at home. At the studio with Luba, I discovered just how talented of a player and teacher she is. Without even looking at me, she identified the things I was having trouble with in every piece. Her playing reinforced my knowledge of the pieces. I particularly enjoyed how she emphasized the musical quality and "feel" of each piece, rather than just the technicalities of the sheet music.

Unfortunately, I had to end my lessons after six months because I was moving out of the state. In such a short amount of time, though, I can now read sheet music at a reasonable pace, understand basic music theory, and most importantly know how to practice. All of these I can only attribute to Luba. She has transformed a mildly interesting instrument into one of my most beloved lifelong hobbies.

It is with great pleasure and with no reservations whatsoever, that I can recommend Luba as a piano teacher for both children and adults. Although her curricula vitae speaks for itself in terms of her qualifications and experience, it is the personal qualities of a teacher that are of the utmost importance in developing a student/teacher relationship that brings out the fullest potential and desire to learn of the student. Luba's warm and kind demeanor belies her exacting requirements of her students. As a pianist who has attended Luba’s student recitals, I am always impressed to see how well-prepared and confidently they perform. Even the beginners play with beautiful phrasing and musicality. One can tell they have studied with a teacher who has worked hard to impart a strong sense of organic expression that music, performed with care and understanding, can evoke. As a concert pianist, Luba understands well the difficulties, both physically and psychologically of performance and is most supportive of the goals of her students. She is also interesting and caring and uses her sense of humour to entice her students to keep working through the difficult times, and keep coming back for lessons.

"Mrs. Luba" has come to be one of the most positive role models in our daughter's life. Over the last two years, Luba has instilled in our daughter (now aged 8) a deep appreciation and love for music and an understanding of the importance of setting goals.

In addition to her obvious rich musical knowledge, Luba is enthusiastic, caring, warm and understands how to teach. She has worked with my daughter on troublesome topics and knows when and how to challenge her. She makes each and every lesson fun while creating a real sense of accomplishment. Rather than simply plow through songs, Luba also works with her on piano technique and music fundamentals that will hasten her development, particularly as she advances. Finally, Luba is always extremely accommodating and cognizant of our hectic schedule. Our daughter recently scored "Outstanding" in the 2014 Music Educators Association Annual Audition, thanks in no small measure to Luba.

We are absolutely thrilled to have found Luba for our daughter's piano instruction and hope to continue our long relationship together.

I noticed in my first lesson Tamera was throughly prepared with all the foundational info that I would need to be able to stand before walking. She was also mindful to allow me to sing as I normally would so she could correct my errors and therefore help me achieve my best potential

I have taught more than 100 students from age of 3 to 65 over years of my teaching experience both privately and at schools such as Juliet Music, PianoVerse and Japanese Children's Society, Inc. I also worked as a program manager of lessons and coordinated recitals where 30 to 40 students performed on stage.

I started piano at the age of 4 but completely stopped when I was 10 due to lack of interest and patience. 6 years later, I somehow resumed piano and gradually became serious about it. As a late starter, it was not easy to acquire skills and catch up with other pianists, but I studied Classical Piano performance at Aaron Copland School of Music and graduated with departmental honor.

If you have a similar experience of quitting piano, we are a perfect match. Video lesson would be good too as long as you can read notes by yourself!

About Yusuke

If you have stopped piano at one point in your life and are thinking of starting again, I can assure you that you should! It is never too late to start. I am here to assist you to learn basics, build up skills efficiently, and play a piece you dream of!

I advocate for student centered learning as well as engagement through play and exploration. Your typical 30 minute lesson would include: Creative movement and stretching, rhythm games, working on repertoire in a variety of unique ways, playing and listening by ear, and learning and putting into practice different music theory concepts. My primary goal is to find what you love to play and work our lessons around that. If you don't enjoy the music you are playing, there is no motivation to practice!
I have been teaching lessons for 5 years and welcome any beginner to intermediate students.

About Anne

I am a current elementary music teacher who is also a professional pianist, singer, and clarinet player. I graduated from Goshen College with a bachelors in Music Education. Students can expect to love lessons and improve immensely in technical skills as well as aural skills (playing by ear). Bei

Anne is an amazing music teacher! My daughter has never really been into instruments or music until Anne came along. My daughter has been taking ukulele lessons online with Anne and it has been a very positive experience! She is very positive, encouraging, and patient and if my daughter is struggling, she has a lot of tricks up her sleeve to offer support! I think the highlight so far was when she taught my daughter to play happy birthday to her eight year old cousin! We HIGHLY recommend her!
Jody
My daughter has been taking piano lessons with Anne for 5 years. She is an exceptional teacher - patient, fun, and encouraging. She guides improvement through questioning the student and allowing the student to make some choices. Anne makes sure skills are introduced, practiced, and then reviewed repeatedly so understanding and good habits are established and built upon. My daughter is showing continual progress and is becoming more skilled and confident in her playing. Great instructor!

Michelle is a great teacher. She is patient, kind, and enthusiastic about music. My child loves going to class and hates missing a class (only when she's sick). She makes learning music fun but it also firm if the child doesn't meet the expectation. It's been a year since we started lessons and we couldn't be more happier.

"I’ve been playing bass for nearly 25 years and have plenty of music theory knowledge under my belt. I wanted to learn piano to expand my musicianship and I’ll be honest, at first I was going to go with the self-learning route since some of my past experience transitioned over. What didn’t transition over is technique and approach, so I was going to take a few lessons to tighten that up and then go on my own.

This is when I met Viviana. She is an absolutely wonderful teacher and has surpassed all expectations. I no longer want to take just a few lessons and go on my own, now I want to spend a year or more with her. I need a lot of work! What I love is that I take something new away from each lesson. I feel like with each lesson I’m getting at least 10X more out of every practice session than I would have had I tried this on my own.

What I really love is that Viviana is honest and attentive. I took bass guitar lessons in the past and it was simply working through a book and all the teacher did was validate that I could play the songs, they paid no attention to anything else. Viviana is different, sure we are working through books, but she really emphasizes all of the small details which separates the beginners from the greats. She really makes me feel the music and helps me to avoid the pitfalls of just playing robotically. She is honest, as soon as she detects me veering away she will immediately correct me in a constructive manner. I never feel nervous or frustrated with Viviana by my side.

If you are thinking about taking lessons, be it piano or voice (I hear her teaching voice lessons when I come in early) then you would be doing yourself a great service by learning with Viviana. She will put you on the right path and I promise you will see results. She is also very flexible, as I write this coronavirus is wreaking havoc around the world yet she is still able to teach remotely through apps like FaceTime and such. You simply cannot reach maximum potential without a great teacher, so if you are serious about making progress then I urge you to take at least a few lessons.

Thanks Viviana! I look forward to many lessons to come!"

"Natasha is the best teacher I have had! Before her, I had gone to 3 different teachers to learn piano and she really helped me by breaking things down. She is patient, kind and caring. I would recommend anyone to work with her. She also started giving lessons to my 4-year-old boy Jason and he gets so excited to go to piano lessons that I have to run after him when we pull up to her place. Specifically, my older daughter has had 3 other teachers before Mr. Cooper, but has progressed leaps and bounds since starting with Mr. Cooper. "For more than a decade I have followed Tamari’s piano performances, compositions, choir direction, and performances of her students. The results have been superb as attested by audiences, colleagues, and those under her direction, including former performers with the Metropolitan Opera and other distinguished musicians.

I am delighted to learn that she has decided to take some additional fortunate students, including beginners. I have also witnessed excellent performances by her justifiably proud beginner students.

I am pleased to recommend Tamari as an excellent music teacher of piano, voice, or composition for students of any level.

Sincerely,

Robert D. Johnson"
