Like many violin teachers, I love teaching the viola! It's a gorgeous instrument, and I have had the pleasure of playing viola in chamber groups, teaching many young viola students, and collaborative with violists regularly in chamber music settings. Whether you're a beginning student, are looking for a practice coach, or want help with excerpts, I can't wait to get started!
A passionate educator and Suzuki trained teacher, I teach individual and group classes with Suzuki Strings of Austin, violin and viola students at Bedichek Middle School, and run a private violin and viola home studio in Austin and online.
In violin lessons with me, you can expect the focus to go far beyond the technical aspects of the violin, encouraging each student to flourish and reach their full potential. I believe that every student has the ability, drive, and capacity to succeed at, love, and learn from the violin. Whether you're an adult new to the instrument, a young child trying out music lessons for the first time, or an older student returning to the instrument after a few years off, violin lessons will serve as a meaningful musical outlet, a way to discover self-directed learning, and a way to engage with an entire commun
Abi is a great teacher. She always comes up with very practical methods to improve my specific skills and I benefit a lot from here. And you can feel her teaching passion too!

Abigail was an enthusiastic teacher who helped spread her love of the violin. She is classically trained and works on the fundamental skills a young violinist needs. Our child enjoyed her sense of humor as well.
I can teach beginning-advanced viola students, and I can also help a student in the process of switching from violin to viola.

I’m an adult viola student which is kind of different for me. I started playing again after a couple years and I’m trying to learn ways to play with other musicians. Emily has been really good with helping me focus on what I want to learn. She is patient with me and also plays with me and makes me feel comfortable in my lesson. afterwards I feel good and positive and I want to play more! I suggest her for anyone trying to be creative and wants to improve on tempo, rythm, tone etc. she’s good.

Jonathan is a great teacher! I had my very first violin lesson with him, and he made me feel like I can actually learn how to play this instrument.
I have played the violin and the viola for 13 years, and have studied both extensively at a high level. You can expect a good mixture of technique and pieces in our lessons, along with many conversations about body awareness and tension release. The last two points are my passion projects, as I aim to help you develop pain free playing at all costs!
I am currently a freelance violist and strings teacher in the greater Hartford area. I completed a masters degree in viola performance at The Hartt School in December of 2018.
In the past year, I have collaborated with Teaching Artists International in traveling to Peru and Guatemala to observe and teach students immersed in the El Sistema philosophy. El Sistema began in Venezuela as a method of orchestral instruction that carries with it an essential component of social justice and inclusivity.
Teaching is a great opportunity to get to know a young artist. My primary goal as a teacher has always been to help my students develop technical and musical abilities through regular practice and problem solving approaches, while always encouraging a unique musical voice. In our lessons together, we will explore your personal mus
ical interests, and I will also introduce you to an applied technical approach to the viola and violin, which I will cater to your individual technical and musical needs!
I would be more than happy to answer any specific questions you have about my pedagogical approach, and I look forward to hearing from you!
Jake was great. Articulate, calm, encouraging. He understood my requests and was quick to asses what action to take. Thanks Jake.

Jake has a keen sense of how to pace lessons, and has a sharp eye & ear for technique. If I had just taught myself through YouTube I might be okay at violin, but the quality would be nowhere near where it is today without Jake's help. These lessons have been a good investment and I look forward to improving even more.

Jake Pietroniro is an excellent teacher and colleague. I’ve work with him for the last couple years and he has a great ability to tailor lessons to each students individual needs. I highly recommend Jake to any student interested in improving their musical abilities.
I am an experienced classical viola teacher who has been teaching for 5 years from ages 5-16, beginner to advanced! I focus heavily on technique and foundations so the student has a well rounded music education and confidence in the viola that they can take with them forever. For beginners I use the Suzuki books, I Can Read Music series, String Builder series and Winning Rhythms. For more advanced violists I use the Introduction to the Positions series and etude books such as Wohlfahrt and Kreuzer.
My name is Jocelyn and I have been playing the violin and viola for 13 years and teaching for 5 years. I am principal viola of the Bryn Mawr-Haverford Orchestra and I also am part of a chamber music group. In high school, I was in the Maryland All-State Orchestra for four years and was in the Maryland Classic Youth Orchestra (MCYO), one of the most prestigious orchestras in Maryland, for four years. During my summers, I attended the Interlochen Center for the Arts high school music program. I have been taught by musicians from the National Symphony Orchestra and National Philharmonic. My students improve significantly since our first lessons. One of my first students whom I now give Skype lessons to successfully got into one of the best orchestras in the DC area and is now principal (1st chair) of the viola section of that orchestra. A
nother student, who I started teaching when they were six years old, is now a year later on Suzuki book 2, Wohlfahrt Etudes and is learning third position as a seven year old. I use a comprehensive set of books that teach theory, rhythm and pieces that I use to teach students how to prepare and perform "performance ready" pieces.
Jocelyn is punctual and courteous. She was flexible and responsive via email. She is a great fit for an outgoing child.

Jocelyn was very professional and patient with my daughter who is just a beginner. We are excited to see progress from week to week!
October 22, 2017
Jocelyn came to our home and worked with our son. She was very patient and kind with him and was able to find what to correct on the first lesson! She recommended some books for us to buy and I think that she will be a great teach for him.
I love how the viola sounds. I teach in all music styles and music genres from classical to contemporary to improvisation to solo dynamics etc. The viola is a great instrument and I love teaching the viola to people who love it. With the rich, beautiful sounds of the viola I teach my students how to bring out the best in themselves and the instrument.
Mimi is a world class musician. She has been teaching Viola, Violin, Composition and Improvisation techniques for over 25 years.
Mimi studied personally for several years with Itzhak Perlman, the great, legendary, violin concert soloist.
Mimi toured with Barbra Streisand and also recorded movie scores in Los Angeles. In New York City she has played in The Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, The New York Philharmonic, and debuted as a soloist at Carnegie Hall.
Mimi also played in The San Francisco Ballet Orchestra as principal violist, The San Francisco Opera Orchestra and The San Francisco Symphony.
Mimi has also recorded and released 5 CD's featuring her as a soloist.
Mimi is a very patient, compassionate, knowledgeable, and inspiring songwriting teacher. She does not merely give me a fish, she teaches me to fish. I wrote one of my best songs while in lessons with her-most definitely several points above average!:)
October 12, 2019
We were amazed that our children learned violin online! Mimi was very patient and great with our 7 and 10 year old. We moved along with the violin suzuki book with ease with Mimi's help. Both of our children looked forward to her lessons. We look forward to working with her again.

Mimi is a very patient, compassionate, instructive, and inspirational teacher, and I am learning a lot about songwriting from her. Definitely several points above average!:)
Viola jokes are for losers... I think viola has one of the most gorgeous tone in the entire orchestra family. I can work on solo pieces as well as chamber music / orchestral excerpts of your choice.
I served as a violinist of the Attacca Quartet, a NY-based string quartet that performs all over the world from 2005 to 2019. In addition to concertizing, I teach students of all levels wherever I go; I have given lessons, masterclasses and lectures in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Ireland, Australia, Japan, UAE... good thing we all speak the universal language of humanity: music.
I grew up in Yokohama, Japan, but I decided that I was ready to explore the world when I was finishing up the 10th grade. I moved to New York to pursue a musical life and career. I have Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Violin Performance, as well as Artist Diploma in String Quartet Studies from The Juilliard School.
I have been teaching students of all ages since 2005. Many of them were young children who simply enjoy playing the vio
lin, but I have had several students win domestic and international competitions. I am also very fond of working with adults with or without experience- I usually end up being great friends with them.
I often encourage my students to work on a solo repertoire of an appropriate level, as well as an ensemble piece that would help them develop their musicianship. I am very friendly and casual, but if you ask me to, I can be very tough (I was raised by a tiger mom.)
If you are a beginner and need help with reading music in general, don't worry- I teach a course called "Ear Training" at Juilliard, so that can be a part of our lessons as well.
I look forward to meeting you and making music together!
Keiko is very patient and kind. She made several suggestions for me to modify my technique to improve my sound. Even though I had difficulty with it, she encouraged me to keep going at it. I am excited for our next lesson.

Instructing doesn’t get any better than Keiko!! Absolutely! Patience, taking time, review all absolutely great!! Look forward to next session!
May 28, 2019
Keiko is a really amazing violin instructor. Not only is she a pleasure to work with, but she instills you with the confidence that she knows exactly what she’s doing, and can help you pick up everything you need in order to excel at violin.
"Krisztina is a great musician, experienced teacher and wonderful person. I am grateful that I had the opportunity to work and play with her during the pas
t years. She is really devoted to the instrument and music. She has my highest endorsement and recommendation."
"Patient, sensitive, and wonderful to work with. Brings excitement to playing and learning. A diamond in the rough."
"Miss Susanna is very nice and very patient- even when I'm being super ADHD! She also doesn't over or underestimate me, which I very much appreciate."
"She was very knowledgeable, patient, and pleasant to work with."
"Elisa is a very responsible, skillful, and sweet teacher
Before Elisa moved to Ventura, CA, she was a master student and taught in IP piano school and Kw
ong Kow Chinese School in Boston, MA. My daughter, Sarina, was one of her students. My daughter loves her so much and made good progress when Elisa was teaching her. Elisa made Sarina relax and comfortable so that she was enjoying the learning process; she emphasized on skill and poses, she tried hard to help the students to get to the best they could. She is reliable as you can talk with her about the timing change and make up lessions. She came to our house to say goodbye and hug Sarina before she left. She is a great teacher that you can count on and you will enjoy her teaching."
"Susanna Sonnenberg is an awesome strings teacher!"
"Patient, encouraging and inspiring. I cannot recommend Carolyn highly enough."
"If I could write anything to hope that you choose Kristen to teach you, imagine it here: _______. That said. She is Amazing, Fantastic, Patient, Fun, Unde
rstand, did I say Patient!? I am a 28 year old man that is learning Viola as his "2nd" real instrument. I play piano well, and "campfire" guitar. Kristen is teaching me to read Alto clef and play the Viola. She is teaching at MY pace and not complaining when I come in without having the most practice time accomplished throughout the prior week. She has a flexible schedule and is available for communication (email and phone) between lessons (I've rescheduled many times because my work hours are not constant). She's Great! I hope you let her teach you! Thank you for reading."
"She is a great instructor! Very patient, especially when there are weeks where I don't get to practice very much because of work. She is understanding and
