I usually use either the Alfred or Rubank method books to supplement a curriculum that I tailor make for each individual student. Any question or confusion a student has about anything during the lesson will be explained in detail and dealt with until he/she understands the concept. Our 12-year old son has been learning clarinet from Mr. Dimitry for about a year now and we highly recommend him to prospective students for his deep music knowledge, rich clarinet performance experience and above all, just being a great clarinet teacher.

In a year's time with Mr. Dimitry, our son's progress has been very impressive. After our son started lessons with Mr. Dimitry, it quickly became apparent that Mr. Dimitry is a very experienced teacher for young musicians. He engages our son effectively to keep him interested in music and clarinet while at the same time sets high expectations for him. Our son always looks forward to clarinet lessons and also is motivated to practice pieces at home.

Mr. Dimitry not only teaches sound clarinet skills, but also emphasizes the importance of playing music the right way, that is to tell stories and express feelings through music rather than to play music like a technician. Although it is difficult for a young musician to fully appreciate this concept, it does go a long way in preparing him to become a really good musician in the long run.

Mr. Dimitry is very polite, pleasant and professional. We recommend him without any reservation.

My 7 year old son has been taking recorder lessons from Dimitry for almost 1 year now. Dimitry is very patient, encouraging, and enganging - considering that my son is on the younger side. Dimitry provides music instruction that is appropriate age and level wise, so my son feels accomplished and challenged at the same time.
We plan to continue with Dimitry and hopefully advance to the clarinet once his fingers can cover the clarinet holes and he has learned more music theory. My son looks forward to his music lessons. We are very pleased with his musical instruction.

Incredibly amiable, professional, and talented as a teacher.

As a senior in high school now graduating and transferring into college, I started my lessons with Dimitry in December last year and had to end this summer at the end of the music school's program. Even though my time learning the saxophone was short, Dimitry used my past musical experience to help guide me through the instrument. His lessons did not feel long in any sense of the word, and in fact some two-hour lessons I took to make up missed weeks blew by, as I was constantly engaged by his teachings. During my studies with him I found myself in the presence of a true musician, and this was only further driven home when I saw him play in the Hanover Wind Symphony at the Morristown Community Theater with Stanley Drucker. I would highly recommend Dimitry as an instructor for a student at any level.

The trumpet is a colorful and exciting instrument played in many styles of music throughout the world, from jazz and classical to funk and soul to reggae, afro-beat, and Balkan music. In addition to covering the basic technical requirements of the instrument, I'm particularly interested in the many genres in which the trumpet can be found, and I like to focus on the styles of music that most interest and challenge my students. I have been playing trumpet for more than 18 years, and I teach my students valuable brass exercises based on lessons I learned under the tutelage of John McNeil, Laurie Frink, and Walter White. I encourage the use of long tones, air support, and trumpet calisthenics to improve tone, increase range and endurance, and work towards greater flexibility.

About Bobby
I am a jazz trumpeter, improviser, and composer as well as an avid listener and enthusiastic educator. I maintain an active performance schedule playing improvised music as well as funk, soul, afro-beat, reggae, hip-hop, and American folk music. In addition to trumpet, I have experience performing and recording on slide trumpet, trombone, baritone horn, and french horn. I write and arrange music for my own groups and regularly write and record horn arrangements for folk, pop, and reggae groups. I have attended Berklee College of Music and Ithaca College, and I have a Master's degree in jazz trumpet performance from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston.

I have over nine years of experience working with students ages 7 to adult. I have worked both from my home studio and though several public and community music school program
s including the Hudson Arts Alliance in Hudson, MA, the Kittredge Elementary School in North Andover, MA, and the Performing Arts Center of Metro West in Framingham, MA. I have studied jazz performance with trumpet greats John McNeil and Walter White, improvisation with jazz gurus David Schumacher and Jerry Bergonzi, and George Russell's Lydian Chromatic Concept of Tonal Organization with master composer and theorist Ben Schwendener.

As an educator, my aim is to inspire in my students an enthusiasm for the artistic performance of music of any style. I strive to convey my own excitement for the art to young trumpeters and improvisers, and I have worked to encourage self-motivation and a longstanding interest in musical self-expression in elementary through high school students and adults. I have experience performing many styles of music from jazz and experimental improvised music to funk, reggae, and afro-beat, and I use my knowledge of divergent genres to encourage creative experimentation and convey the expressive artistic elements shared by all music. As an improviser I am particularly interested in teaching the theory and philosophy of spontaneous composition and musical communication.

He is always timely and thorough with his lessons. Bobby finds music pieces which are just challenging enough for my son, and my son seems to enjoy his time with Bobby. I also like his balance between teaching music theory and instrument instruction. Bobby explains concepts clearly, and relates well to my son, with a sense of humor and patience. My son has clearly improved in just a few months, and we cannot be happier!

Hello! As a recent graduate of The Juilliard School, and the Yale School of Music, I have an advanced background in teaching and performing. I have extensive knowledge in both Classical and Jazz trumpet pedagogy and am willing to teach all levels of trumpet players. I have been performing on the trumpet since I was 10 years old and now pursue a freelance music career in New York City.

About Theodore
I was born and raised within the Cathedral precincts of Wells, England. Son of a counter-tenor, grandson of a church organist, I was exposed to music early on. After moving to the U.S., I started playing trumpet at age ten. Developing skills as both a jazz and classical player, my studies took me to Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan for the entirety of my high school studies. Here, I was under the musical direction of trumpet professor, Ken Larson, and jazz director, Bill Sears. A recent graduate of The Juilliard School, and The Yale School of Music, my primary teachers have been Raymond Mase, Mark Gould, and Allan Dean. While at Yale, I held the Jazz Studies teaching assistant position, which allowed me to work with undergraduate students 1-on-1, to help with their improvisation skills, and general musical capabilities. I have taught
students privately in Maine, New York, and Connecticut and I look forward to teaching more!

I have performed under the direction of notable conductors which include Michael Tilson Thomas, Alan Gilbert, and Marin Alsop. I have also shared the stage with jazz legends Peter Erskine, Bob Mintzer, and Wynton Marsalis. My travels have taken me to perform at such well known venues as Constitution Hall D.C., Tanglewood, MA, and Carnegie Hall, NY. In 2012 I was a finalist in the National Foundation for Advancment in the Arts YoungArts program. I also received a nomination to be a Presidential Scholar in the Arts. I was featured on Garrison Keillor's radio show "Prairie Home Companion" as a classical and jazz soloist in the summer of 2012.

Improving one's skills in any area is exhilarating and rewarding, and it happens most quickly when the lessons and homework are paced just right for the student's level. As a teacher, I try to balance time spent on technique and foundation with time on creative, right-brained musical play.

Besides teaching instrument playing techniques, music theory, and improvising, I also spend time in lessons helping students find their own best practice. I believe it is possible to help students find a level of flow that is unparalleled when they condition themselves to practice with deep presence and awareness of their own state.

It brings me great joy to facilitate the incredible feeling of exhilaration that accompanies improving your music skills.

About J.Q.
I studied jazz trumpet performance at Oberlin Conservatory (Bachelors, '02) and The Juilliard School (Masters '17). I've been teaching for over ten years and love to help musicians grow. My experience is in all kinds of jazz as well as Cuban music, flamenco, funk and pop music.
