I maintain very active performing and teaching careers. I have private voice studios on Long Island and in Manhattan and have taught singers and pianists in every genre of music for the last 27 years. I was on the faculty of New York University in the Music and Music Professions Department for 5 years. I was a coach in the Banff Centre's 'Voice through body and movement' workshop. Throughout my career as a vocal coach, I have worked with many cabaret artists as musical director, arranger and accompanist. Most notably, Debbie Boily's "Thank You for the Music"a one woman show with me at the piano, recorded live at Ovations in June 2004 Houston, Texas and subsequently performed in France, England and New York. Most recently, I recorded an opera with Jazz legend Anthony Braxton and a Jazz CD with Fred Ho. I have recorded operas in progress fo
r Atlantic Records and new works of composers on the BMI label. Our work together is an intuitive journey of discovery. Your participation in giving feedback about what you are experiencing during our sessions together as well as what happens in your practice sessions and in your performances is an invaluable tool for us to discover and develop your voice.

Practice: I encourage you to practice 20 minutes a day. An hour is ideal. Singing is like anything that you want to master: it improves with work and investigation. The voice is a curiously individual element of each person and aside from the basics of technique no two voices work the same. Our work together is to develop your unique voice and to discover how it works. Working outside our sessions on a regular basis will help you take ownership of your voice and technique.

Auditions/Performances: Please bring all music that you plan to sing in public to your sessions well in advance of the performance. We need time to investigate the music and its demands together; it will make you more confident and polished in your presentation.

For those of you who are nervous getting started, Michael is the one for you. He made me feel at ease during our first lesson. He also showed me things I could do with my voice right away, which i found shocking. He has been great at boosting my confidence and getting me to that next level. I definitely recommend Michael for anyone who is looking to start singing!!

I have been working with Michael for about 5 years and I find him to be very knowledgeable and patient. I have worked on a variety of music from classical to pop and I am always learning something new. Michael has a lot of passion and emotion when he sings which I really admire. He has helped me improve a great deal. I have seen him work with people of all ages who are at various points in their journey and he knows how to help you become your best. He has helped me improve my range and expression of emotion when I sing. I have worked hard and had fun at the same time. I have become more confident and am willing to take more risks than I used to. When I am working with Michael I feel his undivided attention and he helps me to feel good about myself!

I teach students how to belt in a healthy way, and also work on "the mix" used to successfully belt throughout your range, in order to avoid the break between "chest" and "head" voice. I have a lot of experience singing and teaching Musical Theater, I was a member of Studio East in Bellevue, Wa, as well as part of the Musical Theater department at The San Francisco Conservatory of Music. I have played Rapunzel in Into the Woods, Beth in Little Women, Golde in Fiddler on the Roof, and Various characters in the musical Quilters.

Over time my goal is to work toward auditioning for local theaters in the Seattle area, building repertoire as well as the working on the "audition package". If you are a student in school, I will also prepare and encourage auditions for the school musicals, and plays.

Singing/Audition and Resume Coach:

Lessons begin with stretching, vocal warm ups, scales, and extensive breath work, as well as resolving any tensions that may be hindering your vocal production. I then through collaboration with the student, work on beginning repertoire that is suited for the voice, and challenging at the same time. I record all lessons, and email them to the student so that one has the opportunity to review the warm ups, and hear the improvement in the voice, I also write a review of every lesson, with notated warm-ups and a list of "To Do's" for the week so that the student will have a structured practice week. I provide music, and if needed recordings of the pieces so that the student can take the materials back to their homes and practice them on their own.

I track the range of
the voice, and usually within a month it will have improved by at least 4 notes either higher or lower.

It is important to note that learning voice is a highly individualized journey, each person will have their own set of strengths and weaknesses, as a teacher it is my job to asses this in a person and craft a curriculum, and style that will fit those individual needs.

I am also adept at navigating local opportunities for students in the Seattle Theater world. I have had students receive callbacks at 5th avenue, perform for Seattle Childrens Theater. Young Actors Institute, Driftwood Players, win multiple pageants and score high in talent as well as acting opportunities in movies and modeling. I am a performer as well and had to navigate through the college system as well as the Seattle theater system and can provide much guidance to those interested with resume, repertoire and audition coaching.

There is no feeling in the world than the freedom and beauty of singing, it is a joy to hear in my students, and very fulfilling to teach this kind of wonderfully positive experience to people of all ages!

I received my B.A. in vocal performance from San Francisco Conservatory of Music in 2009. I am a classically trained singer, however I enjoy all genre’s of music and firmly believe having a classical base in a singing technique will enrich any style of music you wish to work toward. I am devoted to healthy singing, and unlocking your true timbre and voice with extensive breath, and vowel work. As a graduate from a highly competitive music institution I can help in guiding students along the right path of pursuing this art form at a collegiate level.

Theory/Song Writing techniques:

For some students learning music is just as much a part of the lesson as learning to sing. I love teaching people of all ages how to read music, so that the student can be an independent teacher for themselves and learn music on their own at home, this I think is very important in order to improve skills for singing, the faster the student can learn music, the more time can be spent working on technique and improving the sound of the voice.

I graduated from a prestigious Conservatory and had to take very advanced theory classes in order to receive my degree. I also played flute and oboe in orchestra for 10 years, and taught myself how to play piano. I have assisted some of my students interested in writing their own music on chord progressions, and have offered my musical expertise on their compositions. There is nothing like being involved in the creative process of composing and I love supporting my students that decide to explore this art form.

Speaking Lessons:

I have a studio in Bellevue where I work closely with the transgender community as a vocal coach to feminize my clients voices transitioning from male to female. It is a wonderful process and anyone interested please do contact me!

I also teach language diction classes. I am fluent in IPA (international phonetics alphabet) in English, French, German, Italian, and Spanish. I can help with accent reduction in English or pronunciation in any of the above languages.

Soprano Jordan M. kicked off 2015 with a role debut of Nancy In Albert Herring with Vashon Opera. She was thrilled to make her 5th Avenue Main Stage debut in The Sound of Music, and to sing in Cry To Heaven part of 5th Avenue's New Works Department, which was a collaboration with writer Anne Rice and academy award nominated composer Matthew Wilder (whose credits include the music of Mulan).  She joined Tyrolean Opera this last summer on a full Scholarship in Maurach, Austria on Lake Achen (Achensee), in a role debut of Gretel in Humperdincks Hansel und Gretel. 

In 2014 she was excited to be in the world premiere of Yoshinaka, by Garrett Fisher with the Fisher Ensemble as Tomoe.  It was an adaptation of the traditional Japanese Tales of Ise, which made it’s world premiere at Seattle’s ACT Theater “Central Heating Lab Series”.  It was a noteworthy collaboration with Munenori Takeda, and The Takeda Noh troupe which consists of members who are Living National Treasures in Japan for their Noh artistry, this collaboration was featured on the front page of The Arts section of the Seattle Times.  

Other notable credits from 2014 include 2nd Lady in The Magic Flute,  Rosina, in Il Barbiere di Siviglia with Tacoma Opera and a recording for Kakitsubata, with The Garrett Fisher Ensemble for Jack Straw Production Studios.  In spring of 2014 Ms. McClellan sang Papagena and 2nd Lady with Skagit Opera, and  N.O.I.S.E. (Northwest opera in schools) for their Washington tour, as well as various Rossini arias with Bremerton Symphony, and two solo recitals with Second-City Chamber Series, and Music Northwest.  She also continues to be involved in recording sessions for Hollywood’s top video game soundtracks, including Starcraft and World of Warcraft.

Jordan is equally at home singing song repertoire as well as early music. She was chosen to participate in Lieder Alive! Singers Studio with Håkan Hagegård in San Francisco, CA where she delved deeper into lieder classics, culminating in a public masterclass.  Ms. McClellan has since been invited to sing several recitals with, Second City Chamber Series, in Lakewood, WA, Music Northwest, in Seattle, Wa, Hearthstone Chapel Recital Series, in Seattle, WA, Skagit Opera, at Lairmont Manor, as well as with Tacoma Opera.  Her recital repertoire varies from Italian Art Song, to Fauré Chanson, Lieder, American Songbook Classics, as well as Irish Folk Songs.  She has particpiated in Accademia D’amore, a summer program lead by Grammy Award winner Stephen Stubbs who is  devoted to educating singers about early music, baroque dance and rhetoric.  Most recently she participated in Bach Meisterkurs, in Leipzig Germany (Bach’s hometown) to learn the art of stylistically singing Bach’s passions.  

Past credits include a 3 month tour with Portland opera singing Hansel in Hansel and Gretel, Phylo in the West Coast premier of Pénélope by Fauré with Vespertine Opera, and her Italian concert debut in Urbania, Italy at the Teatro Bramante.  

Her upcoming engagements include, starring in a local independent film as an opera singer, a role debut of Adalgisa in Skagit Opera’s Norma, singing a solo recital with Music Northwest, a performance with the Fisher Ensemble at Folklife Festival, as well as a performer at the Sankt Goar International Music Festival in Germany.

My name is Evelyn and I'm 33 yo. I'm also transgender MTF and have always wanted to sing with my new voice. Jordan is incredibly patient and shows a lot of care for what I have tried to accomplish. Without her I would have been too afraid the let my singing voice be heard. I'm so lucky to have found a professional like her to help me find my singing voice during the journey of my transition. I highly recommend her to anyone who is new to singing or wants to improve their existing voice. She's worth every minute.

About Glenn
I have been active in the entertainment industry since the age of 12, when I gave my first professional performance. Prior to that I was already being introduced to music with years of guitar, and then vocal instruction. I do not remember a time of my life when I was not singing somewhere; in the house, in the yard, in the classroom. That is perhaps why I identify so well with the young people who gather so much enjoyment from "just singing" at every opportunity. I studied professionally for over 10 years with renown soprano and voice teacher Sylvia Jensen, who was instrumental in the enhancement of my vocal knowledge and technique. She is now the Director of Education for the Miss Ohio pageants of the Miss America competitions, elevating many young ladies to the national spotlight. At age 14, I auditioned for, and was added to cast of a
network television variety program, "The Gene Carroll Show", that was a television institution for over 30 years in the Midwest. I was a featured performer on that program for over 7 years, all the while perfecting the art of "playing to a camera." This experience was invaluable, and the knowledge I gathered is now included in my curriculum. I also began performing a solo act in the nightclub circuit at the age of 15, performing up and down the "north coast" from Cleveland, OH, (my home), to Erie. PA. At a very young age, I learned the difficult art of choosing musical material and pacing a show; also adapting to performing under a myriad of conditions with a vast array of musical accompaniment. After graduating college with a degree in Business Administration and Marketing, I assembled my own band, and took to the road. That experience eventually brought the act to Las Vegas in 1982. Over the years my show has been a staple in major casino cabarets in Las Vegas, and all over Nevada. Since my first engagement at The Landmark Hotel in the early 1980's, I have literally been up and down the famed Las Vegas Strip many times over. The Desert Inn, The Dunes, The Stardust, The Maxim, The Tropicana, New York New York, Mandalay Bay, MGM, Bally's, The Flamingo, The Imperial Palace, The Four Queens, The Golden Nugget, The Fremont, The Venetian, The Palazzo, and a three year engagement at The Riviera. My show is truly comprised of musical variety; classics, show tunes, jazz, rock, blues, r&b, country. Even a presentation of "Music of the Night" from Phantom of the Opera, that I perform in full costume. It is this ability to successfully deliver an extensive repertoire that I am enthusiastic about passing along to the next generation of entertainers.

I have been truly blessed in my career to have experienced so many highlights; too many to document. From winning an understudy roll in the Broadway Musical "Platinum" starring Hollywood actress Alexis Smith, to performing our National Anthem at events ranging from Major League Baseball to ESPN Boxing to receptions for major dignitaries, to recording 7 albums and a full-length video, to being asked to perform for Mr. Frank Sinatra at the Frank Sinatra Celebrity Golf Tournament, I have lived a full life on stage, learning and absorbing every bit of knowledge gathered along the way.
Now it is my desire to escalate my status as an educator to a more "one on one" experience; availing myself the opportunity to pass along that wealth of knowledge to individual students who aspire to enjoy the entertainment profession as I have, providing them with the skills needed to successfully compete. Or, should it be their choice not to pursue entertainment as a vocation, to gain a working understanding of all facets of their instrument so as to gain a better appreciation of music. Whatever the goal of the student, I feel that I am equipped to provide them with the tools needed to achieve that goal.

*** Lesson Details ***
Content of Sessions

Generally, the first 10-15 minutes of each lesson will be focused on vocal warm up and exercise. (For guitar students, we will review the previous
week's assignment). For Vocal Students, it is understood that the voice mechanism is made up of muscles, and as an athlete prepares for a sporting event, a singer must prepare to vocalize. It is at this time in our lesson when the student will develop good habits of voice maintenance, which will serve them well throughout their careers. The proper care and preservation of the vocal unit cannot be stressed enough, especially for pubescent and pre-pubescent students. Vocal chords in a developmental stage are most susceptible to damage, and because they are particularly sensitive, they must be handled with care. Our warm up regimen is designed to strengthen as well as preserve the singing voice.

I am not an advocate of getting too involved and "bogged down" in the technical aspects of singing, especially with the young students, and
especially early in our program. This is not to say that breath control, tonality, pitch, etc. are not vital to good singing, because these workings are ESSENTIAL, and their application will certainly be incorporated into our studies. Some instructors, on occasion, have a tendency to lose sight of the fact that much to do with singing happens "naturally", and too much focus on the "technical" can actually be inhibiting. This can alter a beautiful, natural tone into one that is unnatural and contrived.

I adhere to the philosophy that above all else, SINGERS WANT TO SING SONGS, and musicians-in-training want to play music. That is our focus, and all of our training is conceived with that objective in mind. All the technical knowledge and coaching serves no purpose without practical application. It is my belief that the most significant progress occurs when a vocalist is singing a song.

Nearly every element of instruction can be utilized in the performance of one song. This is why the majority of our session time will be spent "in song". For the very young student, we will concentrate our efforts with the students choices of favorite and familiar songs. The older students will undoubtedly have favorite songs, styles and artists. Special attention will be paid to the genre most enjoyed by the student, but diversity will be emphasized as well, and a variety of genres will be unpacked and explored. I believe that whatever a student's musical goals and aspirations, it is in their best interest to gain knowledge and insight in all facets of music, singing, and performance.

The most vital pre-requisite for any student is their enthusiasm. My ambition will be to harness that enthusiasm and channel it productively through stimulating instruction. Our sessions will be informative and educational, but always predicated upon "having fun with music".

I am proud to feature a curriculum that emphasizes the entertainment aspect of singing as well as the technical; created to benefit all ages and experience levels, from beginner to seasoned professional. After just weeks of my "Triple Threat Training" a student will begin to see astounding results: vocally, musically, and in the art of performance. I am excited to share my knowledge with you. Let's get started!

My studio is equipped with a full vocal sound system with microphones that I utilize to teach the valuable art of mic technique. Young students enjoy using the mics and hearing themselves sing and perform. Since our lessons are predicated on enjoying the art of singing, this opportunity has proven invaluable. For the advanced performer, studying all aspects of amplification and what a singer should know about their stage sound is a part of our educational curriculum. My studio is furnished with the equipment that is essential to mastering that knowledge.
Since the practical aspect of my course is based on singing songs, I provide all the latest technology required to allow my students the opportunity to sing the songs of their choosing, with and without the lead vocal tracks. I feel that when students are singing their favorite songs, it offers me the greatest teaching opportunities. I make certain the every musical genre can be represented, and feel I have the knowledge and ability to guide the student is whatever their musical tastes. My studio is also equipped with piano (for vocal exercises), and guitars, which gives me opportunity to accompany my students when the musical moment is appropriate. Glenn is a fantastic instructor. I was a beginner to acting, but I've really wanted to learn more about the craft for a long time. Glenn broke down the fundamentals of reading, character development, and script analysis to help make a more believable performance. I was very pleased with Glenn and the help he gave myself and two other co-workers on the presentation we have to make this week at our conference. Glenn quickly picked up on what our outcome was and coached us in that direction. Many valuable tips and ideas for input was extremely helpful. Hello, and welcome to my page! My philosophy for singing is that a truly great singer is versatile, and that the ideal voice is a flexible instrument that can handle a variety of genres and styles.

My personal training is primarily in classical, and I have a Master's degree in classical voice/opera from Boston Conservatory at Berklee. However, I also actively sing pop, musical theater, and even heavy metal!

Singing can be challenging, and while I work with the student intensely to diagnose and fix vocal issues, it is very important to me that the student feels happy and confident. I encourage students to express their creativity by singing in styles that they feel comfortable with, choosing their own songs, and even adding their own riffs/runs/ornamentations.

I like to place a heavy focus on music theory and sight-singing (I
offer private lessons in these subjects separately as well); It is extremely important for young singers to be able to read the notes on the staff, to understand rhythm and key, and to find pitches on the piano.

I accept beginning-intermediate singers of all ages. I additionally offer music theory, sight-singing, and diction lessons as well as beginner/introductory piano.

My daughter is learning a lot from Sara and so am I. We look forward to the classes as Sara is patient, encouraging, explains everything very well to my daughter and very knowledgeable about vocal training. We feel fortunate to have found her. My daughter who is shy is opening up to her, I can't wait to see where Sara could take her.

Mr. S was a great teacher. He was always professional and fair about his tests and
grading. Aside from the basic music theory 1 curriculum itself, he gave the class additional input that gave some of the concepts more context. I learned alot. Most of all, I appreciated his willingness to help me on an individual basis. I don't think I grasped some of the concepts as fast as other students, but Mr. S was always there to lend a helping hand. At times, I'd run into him just as he was leaving the building, but he'd still help me with a homework problem or two. He didn't have to do this, but I'm thankful that he did. I'd recommend Mr. S to anyone wanting to take Music Theory.

Mr. S is an absolutely fantastic teacher. I doubt I would have learned as much as I did throughout the Aural skills sequence at UGA if he wasn't my instructor. He just has a way with teaching and getting concepts across that is very effective. He goes above and beyond to make sure no one in the class ever falls behind, and is very understanding and willing to give extra help. He's so great!.

I love Mr. S, he was very helpful and took time out of his schedule to help me when ever possible! The only thing I would say is try to include more dictations in class, don't focus as much on theory behind it, deffinetly still go over it but just not as much. For example it really did help though when, you would go over the functions of each chord and note. Thank you for a great year!
