I've been playing trumpet for 18 years, and I'm anxious to pass along my love for the instrument to others of all ages! I teach a variety of styles with my experience performing many kinds of music from classical to hip-hop. Whatever your interests I can get you playing with a healthy approach to brass playing and solid fundamentals!

About Caleb
Caleb moved from his hometown of Wichita, Kansas, to Chicago in 2008 to attend DePaul University, where he received his Bachelor’s in Trumpet Performance studying under Matt Lee and Tage Larsen. Since then, Caleb has picked up a variety of regular gigs across a wide spectrum of styles, genres, and types of events.

Caleb performs in Chicago with soul-pop band The Right Now, the progressive Pocket Radio, the soulful Bassel and the Supernaturals, the genre-defying Willy Dynomite, the Latin-grooved Contrabanda, and funk outfit Nasty Snacks. He has played in horn sections for Latin, funk, and big-band jazz bands, as well as Afrobeat, indie rock, R&B/soul, and hip-hop/rap groups.

He has also played the national anthem for the president at opening night of the Chicago Bulls season, been featured at Chicago Blackhawks games, principal trump
et in symphony orchestras, pit orchestras and in the DePaul Screamin’ Demons Pep Band at Madison Square Garden. Caleb also regularly lends his solo talents to wedding parties and church services, and is one-fourth of the Chicago for-hire horn section Revolution Horns. Other musical endeavors include a performance on the Steve Harvey Show, playing trumpet for the Broadway musical I Love Lucy in downtown Chicago, and a coveted chance to perform in master classes for his idols Adolph “Bud” Herseth and Chris Martin.

Caleb has been teaching privately in the Chicago area for 6 years now and is eager to teach students with any amount of experience, especially those who are eager to approach music from a variety of perspectives.

---

I believe that the best way to teach a brass instrument at any level, is simply to check in and make sure that the student has a great understanding of what a beautiful sound is on their instrument. This is done in a patient and positive environment, filled with the best possible music making to serve as a model to aspire to. With small, attainable goals and encouragement to practive at least a small amount on a daily basis, you cannot help of improve, and hopefully have a good time playing whatever music interests you while doing so. The journey is a bit different for everyone, but anyone can make a beautiful sound, and go from there!

---

I like to strike a balance of teaching out of various method books(depending on the student and their level of ability, some are more suitable than others of course and I help guide the way), and learning to play by ear, which can be almost anything the student wants to learn, provided it's not overly complicated for them. Technique has it's place, but is certainly not the whole story. Learning music that is fun, while at the same time learning to get better at your instrument, makes the overall process enjoyable and rewarding. Once you have the right tools, music is something that can be fulfilling for the rest of your life, especially when you learn to do it in a fun and healthy way.

You couldn't ask for a better instructor than Caleb. He really knows the trumpet and how to play it, and manages to convey that in his teaching. My son responded really well to his calm, patient manner and felt very comfortable with him right away, which says a lot seeing as my son is fairly introverted and quiet and usually needs more time with people to get comfortable.

Caleb is patient, creative, and understanding. My 13 year old son takes lessons from him and says that he is empathetic and easygoing, but still provides structure and clear instructions. Highly recommended!

Having played in groups like Wind Ensembles, Orchestras, Quintets, Jazz Ensembles, Brass Bands, Combos, etc., I can and will teach any and all styles from beginner to advanced levels. I will push you as hard as you want to be pushed from your lessons, and can help you become competitive in auditions for jobs, gigs, honor bands, and school. I have a methodical approach to the instrument which includes not only the physical aspect of the trumpet, but the mental aspect, which is largely ignored.

About Aaron
I recently graduated from UCLA with a Bachelor's degree in Music with an emphasis on trumpet performance. I'm currently teaching and working with my time between now and when I begin a Master's program. I am also a trumpet player in the Army National Guard, and am very active with gigs and playing taps with the Army.

As an instructor Aaron is outstanding. He's professional and has impressive attributes being a UCLA grad and participating member of the armed forces; but more so, he's encouraging to his students and in our son - he positively encouraged a passion for the trumpet and a high regard for music in general.

Throughout my time at Berklee, NEC, and now Juilliard, I have studied with many great teachers and musicians from Wynton Marsalis, Eddie Henderson, Kenny Barron, Tiger Okoshi, John McNeil, and Laurie Frink to Jerry Bergonzi, and Miguel Zenon. The diverse subjects we went over in lessons and classes gives me a unique knowledge of certain styles and musical ideas. I try to be as personal and individual as I can when it comes to teaching students. That was the thing that stood out amongst my favorite teachers.

He is a very talented musician with a passion to educate and help students realize their full potential with his enthusiasm, energy, and love of music. Students who take my lessons can expect a better fundamental understanding of producing the best sound possible, and putting it to good use with great musical interpretation

About Robert
Hello all! My name is Robert Nagle. I have been studying trumpet since age ten. I am currently attending University of Missouri-St. Louis as a music major and will be graduating soon. Throughout the years, I have studied with various applied instructors including the likes of Bob Sousa, and Lisa Blackmore. I have also previously taught trumpet at the “Go Music” store in the Delmar Loop starting out six years ago.
My performance experience spreads far among many various tastes in genres. It ranges between classical, jazz, pop, rock, hip hop, avant garde, and many more. I have studied classical since starting out, and jazz shortly after. I specialize in many sub-categories of jazz and popular music upon performing with many local groups around the area ranging from big band, New Orleans style, smooth jazz, latin, jazz fusion, folk, gospel,
and even some Rn’B. Some groups include St. Louis Big Band, Saint Boogie Brass Band, and also once with Webster U. Community Orchestra.
My method upon any student I have will ultimately be based on what I believe they can develop and/or build according to their foundation. Every foundation (gift) is going to be inherently different in each student. I want all of my students to of course have a firm grasp on fundamentals, but I want each of them more importantly, to thrive in only what is best for their journey as a musician.

I teach the trumpet from the perspective of a professional performer. I have been academically trained, but my teaching breaks from traditional academic norms. I have experience performing in almost every style of music that involves the trumpet. I use that experience to help you learn to play the music you want to play, the way you want to play it. We approach the lessons this way whether you are interested in jazz, classical, pop, R&B, salsa, or tejano. You name it, I can get you there.

About Eddie
Eddie Lewis has a unique teaching style that helps you learn how to teach yourself. He teaches a learning philosophy he calls The Art of Accumulative Practicing. When done correctly, Mr. Lewis' methods will make every minute of your practice time count towards your progress. If you practice ten minutes, then you will be ten minutes better when you put your instrument in its case.

Trumpet students should know that Mr. Lewis has written a number of method books, some of which have been used by trumpet players around the world to help them with their tone, range and endurance. If you are having trouble with your chops, Lewis' reputation as a "Chop Doctor" may be precisely what you're looking for.

Eddie Lewis is also an established jazz improvisation teacher. Some of his past students are considered the best jazz musicians of our day.

Mr. Lewis has extensive knowledge in both classical and jazz disciplines. His extensive study and performance in both genres on the horn offer invaluable knowledge to cater to his students. I think the defining factor of Mr. Lewis is that he will guide his student to where the STUDENT wants to go. He will always work towards the STUDENT'S goals, the STUDENT'S sound, and the STUDENT'S aspirations. He never makes the lessons about himself, or sounding like him. He makes lessons personal and STUDENT-GUIDED. And with his endless vault of knowledge, there is no limit to how far he can take a student.

Mr. Lewis remains professional but can also develop sympathetic, personal relationships with his students. He is always organized and EVERY bit of work that he does for his students remains on the top of his priority list on his computer. His organization makes every lesson expedient and effortless. He remains to be the most caring and thoughtful teacher and human that I have met.

I have had multiple trumpet teachers in the past, but no one I have studied from amounts to a fraction of what Mr. Lewis is. Mr. Lewis isn't just a great trumpet teacher, or classical teacher, or even jazz teacher. He embodies the role as a mentor and guide through the study of expression through the medium of music, and has helped me become a more mature individual.
