I've been playing bass since 2003, tackling everything from metal to jazz to chamber orchestral & band music. When teaching bass, I like to cover as many areas as I can to ensure my students are as well-rounded as they would like to be (& then some). We will discuss proper bass techniques, writing walking bass lines, reading chord changes, how to achieve good bass tones & gear, etc.

Bass Guitar is the sweet spot between rhythm and melody. Learning that bass is not just a low-end guitar, but a pivot between the drummer and guitarist(s) in the band, you'll find yourself listening to and playing music from an all new, entirely unique perspective. I've been playing bass for 15 years, and have found of my session work as a bass player. Being able to keep the beat while enhancing and shaping the melody of a song is key, and on top of various techniques, that will be the focus of our lessons.

Bass is really the energy of the band. I have played both upright and bass guitar in orchestras and in bands. It is a very easy instrument to learn and can give you the opportunity to pick your band in so many cases. Some of my guitar students added bass to their repertoire and within weeks have auditioned for and now play in their junior high and high school jazz bands.
About Karney
After playing in bands for the last 23 years, I have decided to focus exclusively on my passion for teaching. It has been a lot of fun continuing to build a comprehensive music program, which now includes an online platform. Currently, I have over 20 years of music teaching experience and a bach

"For every good bassist, there's a dozen great guitarists." Someone said this to me when I was a young wannabe rocker, I have found it to be true. The bass is the part of the song that everyone really hears. If lead guitar is the icing, bass guitar is the cake. Learn how chords work, and how to map them easily, and let your creativity take over from there.
About Scotty
I am an established performer having played in such bands as BigDamnCrazyWeight, Bring Back Dad and most recently, guitarist for Guadalupe Blue. I studied Music Theory at New Mexico State University with the amazing Dr. Don Hardisty and Composition with Dr. Warner Hutchison. I am passionate about mu

Scotty is a excellent teacher.
I've been learning bass from him and he is very knowledgeable in everything from the history of music, theory, techniques and much more.
I've been taking lessons from Scotty for over a year and have learned a lot about theory, form, and style. Had taken lessons from other instructors and felt that I should had been further along after 1 year. One hour lesson time is perfect for me and I always leave wishing I had more time.
Great teacher takes time to cover theory of music, and does hour lessons unlike most teachers in town who do 30min lessons. Have taken lessons from other teachers in the past, and all they do is teach you songs without explaining the reasoning behind it. Have learned more in the last few months then Iâve learn in years with other teachers.

I feel very grateful to have found and now be taught by Jesse. Despite my considerable age beyond his, he treats me as a peer and has kept me on my toes with learning tasks. Further, lessons are actually fun as well as challenging and about once a quarter, we have "band night" where many of his active students come together to socialize and to "jam" together.
I've had other teachers in my life (I'm in my 60's) and Jesse is by far the most intelligent, skillful and enthusiastic.
My only regret is that I didn't find him sooner."

The walking bass line is one of the most fundamental parts of American music. It is found most commonly in blues and jazz, but as you learn bass guitar, you will hear its influence in almost any style of music. If you’ve ever seen or heard an MTV Unplugged concert, you’ve probably seen and heard an acoustic bass guitar. This is a hollow body instrument that is the size of an acoustic guitar, but has the sound of a bass. In the 1980s and 1990s, rock bands would perform their electric guitar songs with acoustic guitars, and bassists could be heard or seen playing these instruments that are not too common in the world of music. But if they made it all the way to the MTV screens for decades, why h …
