I can teach beginners up to intermediate, and can teach most styles, except for slap bass.

About Aaron
Hello fellow and future musicians, and thanks for checking out my profile!

To tell you a little about myself, I was exposed to music at a very young age since my dad was a musician. I first picked up the drums at the age of 5, and took piano lessons for a year when I was 6. I later played the saxophone in 4th grade, and finally discovered the guitar when I was 9. (Ironic since my dad is a guitarist and the guitar was around the house forever!) He showed me my first chords and really got me started on the instrument, and I played in several local bands in high school playing a range of musical styles from rock, blues, funk, and reggae. I really didn't take music seriously until I was in college, and began studying under Jerry Coelho, a member of the very first graduating class of the Guitar Institute of Technology in Hollywood, CA, and
Dominic Castillo, a graduate of Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, who was a student of Jerry's as well. After studying under these talented musicians, I went on to pursue my education in music and received my BA in Music from San Jose State University in 2004. I started teaching music privately during my time with Jerry and Dominic and continued to teach during college up until the present, and have taught hundreds of students since. I now live in San Diego where I teach, work as a freelance musician, and play in local funk/jazz/rock group Science Fiction Jazz and gypsy/kickstomp outfit Quel Bordel!

*** Lesson Details ***
I am a very easy going, friendly individual who believes that learning music is built upon a strong relationship between teacher and student. This relationship involves good communication, honesty, open mindedness, and most importantly the desire to LEARN and have FUN. I approach teaching music by knowing and understanding the student's musical goals, and teaching fundamentals, theory, and technique through the style(s) of music that the student wants to learn. For beginners, I tend to teach basic techniques and chords through simple songs to get the student playing music as quickly as possible.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Living Room: couches, table and TV, music stand, student can borrow instrument for first lesson, parents can sit in on lesson

*** Specialties ***
My main musical styles that I perform and teach are rock, blues, jazz, funk, R&B, and reggae. I studied jazz in college so I also have extensive knowledge of jazz theory.

My son is a BEGINNER beginner. Rodrigo is a very nice guy and seems to know his stuff very well. I would give him 5 stars but I don't think he realized that my son needed the basic, basic 1st lesson (i.e. how to hold the instrument). We've only attended one session so this is fully based on that one lesson. I'm sure he'll adjust his teaching from here on out.

Scott started playing bass guitar in Jr. High with the Orchestra at school. Such a fun instrument to just sit down and groove. Great instrument to start on and bands are always in need of a Bass player.

About Scott
Scott has been teaching music for over 30 years. His method has evolved over time to meet the demands of changing musical styles and he has developed plenty of material to help students achieve their musical goals. His ambitions for each student are simple- he wants them to enjoy music and experience a sense of accomplishment from the learning process. In short, Scott works to make lessons fun and educational! Most beginning pupils will learn to play a song in the first couple of lessons. Handouts and music tracks are used to enhance the lessons.

Everyone is unique in how and what they want to learn. Scott uses positive encouragement to teach what is needed for the next step with the instrument. Students learn technique for dexterity, songs for the ear and theory so they understand the why's in music.

His training started at GIT (
Guitar Institute of Technology) in Hollywood where he gleaned 30+ yrs. of information from world renowned guitarists and musicians. Scott went on to graduate from Belmont University with honors in Composition and Arranging. Playing in Rock, R&B, Country, Classical and Jazz original and cover bands has enhanced his skills and made him a well rounded musician. He has the ability to teach these styles and make a living playing them.

Scott teaches all levels of students from beginner to advanced as well as the "signed artist" who have recording deals and need a little extra coaching. He has taught well known musician's family members and many of Scott's former students have gone on to make a career of their own in music as teachers, performers or composers.

"I enjoy music so much that it has always been a pleasure to pass on the knowledge of playing music."

I took weekly electric guitar lessons with Scott from 2004 to 2012. He is without a doubt an extremely talented, enthusiastic, and compassionate teacher. Whether he was helping me learn basic chords or teaching me complicated songs, Scott never wavered in his dedication to teaching. Over the eight years as his student, Scott gave constructive criticism in a courteous manner. He was on time, inquisitive about the songs and music I was listening to, and ended lesson with new material for me to practice. I wholeheartedly recommend Scott to any aspiring guitar student.

I have been playing the bass guitar as my primary instrument since 2000. I have performed, recorded and written with a number of successful bands in the past. I am happy to take students at any skill level, and for any style. I believe strongly in integrating music theory and ultimately moving students toward musical self-suffiency, rather than focusing exclusively on learning particular pieces.

About Ben
Hi, there! My name is Ben and I can't wait to meet you! I've been teaching private lessons since 2012 and have taught students of all ages from 3 to adult. I have experience not just with teaching but also with writing, recording, and performing music in successful bands and on multiple instruments and in multiple genres. I am comfortable teaching piano, guitar, and bass guitar, ukulele, and I especially love teaching music theory. I have extensive theory training at the college level and have written and composed extensively in the classical, rock, jazz, and folk traditions. I've been taking piano lessons with Ben for about 6 weeks now. It's really convenient for me, since I can meet at his place or he can come to mine. I'm an adult beginner, with really zero piano experience prior to starting lessons. Years ago I played trumpet for about 5 years, so I did have some early experience reading music.

I told Ben to treat me like a true beginner. He's been very patient, but he challenges me. I think my success will ultimately be up to me -- how much am I willing to practice, and to study? So far the experience working with Ben has been great. It's fun and challenging, and I'm finding myself improving every week. I've even started to figure out some chords and songs on my own!

Ben was a great first music teacher for my daughter. He taught her the basics of beat and rhythm, proper piano technique and practice methods, all within her young abilities (she started with him around 4 1/2 years old). He was also extremely patient but firm when she got wiggly and tired. He was also always on time and easy to work with.

About Liana B.

If you want to learn the basics of electric bass technique and get into playing written lines and/or improvise over a variety of styles, you've come to the right place! I have been playing electric bass for over a decade, specializing in jazz and R&B. Whether you'd like to improve your skills or start from scratch, I'll be able to help you feel comfortable moving around the instrument!

About Liana
My name is Liana, and I am a freelance musician (specializing in double bass) and music instructor working in the Greater Los Angeles Area. I have been playing music for nearly my entire life, starting on piano at the age of five and moving on to learn other instruments as the years progressed. I have performed with various orchestras (including studio recording groups), chamber groups, musical theater pit ensembles, jazz big bands and combos, and more.

I have served as principal bassist with the CSUN Symphony and the Dragon Singers Orchestra, and as substitute principal bassist of the Westlake Village Symphony. I have also performed with the band Noble Creatures on ukulele; Tenth Muse on double bass, vocals, and ukulele; as a founding member of the band Polyhymnia on electric bass; the CSUN Jazz "C" Band on double bass; and the Jazzs
chool Studio Band on double and electric bass.

I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, where I studied double bass under Pat Klobas and Karen Zimmerman. My further double bass studies continued in Los Angeles under Oscar Meza and Dr. Gary Pratt. I received my B.A. in Music Breadth Studies from California State University, Northridge in 2016.

All lessons are incredibly flexible and are tailored to each student's needs, abilities, and goals. Do you have a book you've already been working from and want to continue with? Great! Do you not like working from a book at all? Also great! I am by no means strict, but together we will work hard to you craft your technique to maximize your potential!

PLEASE NOTE: I do unfortunately deal with chronic abdominal pain that has its ups and downs, so there are times that I will need to reschedule and/or cancel lessons with relatively short notice. If you are looking for strict consistency, I may not be the teacher for you; however, if you are willing and able to be flexible, I can be just as flexible as you are.

I look forward to the possibility of meeting and working with you!

I found Keith to be very reliable, patient, knowledge in several subjects, flexible with problem solving and understanding of children's moods and personalities. He comes with a wide array of talent and is willing to meet your child at his/her interest level and learning style. He even switched from tutoring reading to art because my child totally refused to be tutored in reading.
He came prepared and on time every time, ready to tutor in either subject because my child was difficult, uncooperative and would not stick to her scheduled sessions. Through all this Keith remained dedicated, supportive and patient. He worked with us even to the premature ending of our sessions, and even then he remained understanding and supportive of our decision to end.
If there's one tutor I'd recommend; it would be Keith. He WILL make every effort to reach your child and engage them in the learning process to attain positive growth and development, you will NOT be disappointed in any way.

Keith has done a wonderful job introducing my son Thomas to bass guitar. From the first lesson my son enjoyed Keith's style of teaching. Keith is very flexible in adjusting to the learning style of the student. My son had particular songs he wanted to learn and Keith was open to helping him become familiar with the instrument through the songs that appealed to Thomas. I would highly recommend Keith for students at all levels. Keith is an experienced, personable, and talented teacher.
