I've been playing bass since 2003, tackling everything from metal to jazz to chamber orchestral & band music. When teaching bass, I like to cover as many areas as I can to ensure my students are as well-rounded as they would like to be (& then some). We will discuss proper bass techniques, writing walking bass lines, reading chord changes, how to achieve good bass tones & gear, etc.

About Alex

My name is Alex. I'm a multi-instrumentalist (guitar, bass, Oud, bouzouki, keyboards, voice, drums, flute, etc.), composer, performer, recording artist, arranger/orchestrator/transcriber, recording engineer/producer & music educator. I graduated from the University of St. Thomas "Cum Laude" in

I'm Ahmad a very enthusiastic musician. I started out teaching myself guitar at the age of 12. I moved to the U.S. in 2001 and studied music for 15 years receiving my B.M. and M.M in music and audio production at San Francisco State University. I then moved to Los Angeles then studied and trained with John Mayer, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, George Lynch and many others. I have performed hundreds of concerts in the U.S. as well in Europe and the Middle East with Artists such as Ozzy Osbourne, Metallica, Guns N Roses, Michael Angelo Batio, Ratt, Sammy Hagar, Dokken and many others. I ranked #1 in the Slash Guitar Center competition. I was in the "list of top 5 guitar players ever" according to The Examiner, also picked as one of the best guitarists of 2013 and 2014 consecutively in the Rockwell UnScene magazine, and ranked 3rd in the Steve Vai Sam Ash Best in Shred competition.

I have been meaning to write this review for a while. I have been coming to Ahmad for lessons for about 6 months. I have tried on two occasions to learn guitar from other instructors but quickly became frustrated and gave up. My time with Ahmad has been a completely different experience. He is a fantastic instructor and he focuses on building the fundamentals. Using a foreign language as an analogy, my other instructors started by just teaching me how to pronounce different phrases, without teaching what the individual words meant or how to modify the sentences. Ahmad starts by teaching the vocabulary and how to construct any sentence you want. He is very patient, sends you home with excellent lessons to practice, and once you get to the point where you simply need time to improve technique before you can advance any further, he switches to teaching basic music theory, so that you can continue to learn while you wait for your hands to catch up with your brain.

If you want to spend the least amount of money on guitar lessons, I would encourage you to go learn from some college kid, as you will spend $80 on one or two lessons and then just give up. If you want to actually learn how to play guitar, come see Ahmad.

I have been working with Ahmad for over a year now. I spent some time trying to learn guitar myself, from books and from online teachers, but was never able to make any real progress until I met Ahmad. Immediately he was able to move me in the right direction through 1 on 1 tutoring and by providing me with the right materials to build my confidence and skills. As a person with a family and somewhat demanding job it's always tough to find the time to work on guitar practice, but Ahmad works with me and paces everything well to build my skills while keeping it fun and challenging. It's always a delight to join Ahmad for lessons - his studio is convenient (with easy free street parking) and comfortable with nice natural light.
I can't recommend Ahmad highly enough - He's an absolute pleasure to work with. He's friendly, considerate, and an amazing guitar teacher. Since starting guitar lessons with Ahmad my playing has risen to a new level and my enjoyment of guitar in general his increased exponentially. I find myself always looking forward to my lessons!

Ahmad brought my playing to a new level in a very short period of time. I had been stuck and not making much progress with my improvisational skills for the better part of a year when I first started lessons with him. I was impressed by his ability to quickly analyze my playing and knowledge and suggest some focus areas. After working on various intervals, I began to feel a magnetic pull in my fingers when playing. The intervals enabled me to make the connection between the licks and lines in my head and the physical fret board on the fly during improvisational sessions.

Ahmad is extremely organized. He has folders full of exercises for every topic imaginable. His exercises are clearly written with specifics on how to effectively practice them, and they progress in an incremental and logical fashion. This level of organization allows you to get the most out of your time with Ahmad. He can quickly retrieve exercises for a topic, without having to stop and think, or waste time on transcription.

I have a demanding schedule which only allows me time for lessons once a month. Even at such a low frequency, I leave every lesson with more than enough material to keep me busy. Ahmad has been very flexible working with me and changes that arise in my schedule. On top of all of this, Ahmad is a genuinely pleasant person to spend time with and I really look forward to our time together. For me, I was an intermediate player looking to get to the next step. But I'm confident that Ahmad could accelerate anyone's playing at any level.

Bass is really the energy of the band. I have played both upright and bass guitar in orchestras and in bands. It is a very easy instrument to learn and can give you the opportunity to pick your band in so many cases. Some of my guitar students added bass to their repertoire and within weeks have auditioned for and now play in their junior high and high school jazz bands.

About Karney

After playing in bands for the last 23 years, I have decided to focus exclusively on my passion for teaching. It has been a lot of fun continuing to build a comprehensive music program, which now includes an online platform. Currently, I have over 20 years of music teaching experience and a bac

About Ian

I started playing guitar originally in 1991. Over the years I eventually picked up bass and ukulele as well (not to mention a plethora of other instruments, such as voice, drums, piano, and harp). I started teaching in 2001 throughout the Chicagoland area. First in music stores, then schools, then

Whether you're a first day student or a seasoned player, I've probably taught someone just like you before. I especially love teaching theory and fretboard logic, but I can help you learn whatever you're looking to take on.

With every student, I create a specific path for you that gives you what you're looking to learn (aka what got you excited about picking up the guitar in the first place) along with the essentials to help make your journey as smooth as possible. If there isn't quality tab readily available, I'm down to transcribe the tune for you and I guarantee you'll laugh and enjoy yourself (at no extra charge of course).

About Dave

I've been playing the guitar for 25 years now and teaching for nearly two decades. In 2006, I received his BA in Jazz performance from U-Mass Amherst and since then I've performed anywhere from local bars and cafes, in pits for musical theater, as a show band musician for Carnival Cruise Lines and

Dave is the best instructor I could have hoped for. As an older beginner, I was not sure how much I could pick up but I have made good progress in the past year with his lessons. Lots of fun, look forward to learning more riffs and songs!

My 11 year old has had weekly guitar lessons from Dave for two years now.
Her knowledge and confidence in playing the guitar, has greatly improved. Dave gets all the credit for that.
He works well with her, is communicative, and is as flexible as he can be, even last minute.
I have, and will continue to recommend Dave to anyone interested in taking guitar lessons

"I started Bass guitar lessons from Mark about 4 years ago. He is a very talented and patient musician who really pays attention to detail. I have a busy schedule and sometimes I just can't practice as much as I would like to. to make things even harder, I play Left handed. Mark takes the time to go over things with me with out any frustration. I really had no idea what it would be like taking lessons at my age (let's just say I'm way past 50), but I truly look forward to meeting with mark for my weekly lesson. I'm making progress and one of these days I'll be able to say Yes, I can play this bass.

What is an Acoustic Bass Guitar? A Look at the Instrument

If you’ve ever seen or heard an MTV Unplugged concert, you’ve probably seen and heard an acoustic bass guitar. This is a hollow body instrument that is the size of an acoustic guitar, but has the sound of a bass. In the 1980s and 1990s, rock bands would perform their electric guitar songs with acoustic guitars, and bassists could be heard or seen playing these instruments that are not too common in the world of music.  But if they made it all the way to the MTV screens for decades, why h …
