I can help the student practice and learn their way around the cello in an efficient manner. This means that I will be helping with intonation and other technique by giving exercises for the challenging passages. Lessons will be customized according to the goal of the student. Sharing my knowledge in cello and music is a passion and a goal of mine and I would love to help reach your goals.

About Alexandra

I am currently a student at the Juilliard School in New York-- I completed my Bacherlor's degree and will be continuing my studies for my Master's degree. I began to play the cello at the age of 6. I have performed in Nichols Concert Hall, North Shore Center For The Performing Arts, and Bennett Gor

I had to stop because of the pandemic. Lessons were thorough, she was insistent and very detailed.

While a bit humbling Alex definitely helped me fix some glaring technical issues, particularly with the bow.
Miyeon
She helped my 12 year old daughter prepare the Saint Saens Cello concerto (1st movement) for a small performance. My daughter played more spiritedly after her session with Alex. She was especially helpful for a specific bow technique.

Hi! My teaching is inspired by my classical training, while incorporating work experiences in improvisation, jazz, and pop. I hope to help students engage with music and equip them with tools to be uniquely creative and expressive.

About Caleb

I am a Nashville based cellist from the San Francisco area. I first began playing the cello inspired by seeing OneRepublic's bass guitarist/cellist Brent Kutzle on TV. I have completed a degree in cello performance at UCLA while gaining working experience on collaborative projects in a variety o

I am 12 years old and have been playing cello for 6 years. Caleb was my instructor at the Mark O'Connor string camp. The week before our lesson, he recorded an accompaniment for a piece we would be working on, and it was great to get a head start and to be able to play with him. We worked on bluegrass practicing techniques and improvising with blues scales. It was some super cool music and thanks to Caleb, my playing is improving!
Yutae(Albert)
Being my very first cello instructor, Caleb not only taught me how to play, but gave me a desire. Usually, the first experience determines the outcome of what happens, for example, if you never enjoy an instrument, it is inevitable that you would drop it quite soon. However, Caleb found me real enthusiasm and motivation. Even though I am no longer his student, I always look forward to hearing any news about him, from a simple hello to him posting a new video of his performances. Without someone like him, I probably would have had given up cello after my first year. He is the most enjoyable and helpful instructor so far.

"I lived in India all through my life, and now as an adult I am just coming to learn about cello. I never knew that cello would be an instrument I would become passionate about. This instrument is the most beautiful and I am very grateful to Hallie that I can carry out the beauty of this instrument. When I was growing up my parents only let me concentrate on academics. I am so grateful to Hallie to help me learn about music!"

"My 11-year-old daughter has had lessons with Jessica for about three months and has learned so much from Jessica. Prior to these online lessons, our daughter started learning cello with a local teacher for about 3-4 months. The teacher stopped giving lessons unexpectedly and we couldn't find a replacement so decided to go online. Doing music lessons online with someone you haven't met in person can seem daunting, but Jessica has figured out how to come across over Skype as fully present, engaged, positive and encouraging. We almost feel as if she's there in person. She can pick up on many things by asking the right questions and follows through with proper advice and recommendations for improvement. At one point, our daughter had concerns with wrist pain and Jessica fully took it upon herself to look into the matter. Jessica is very timely and flexible. At times we've had to adjust the schedule and she was quite accommodating. She also had to work with our daughter's solo performance at school and amazingly in less than 2 months prepared her for the piece. We highly recommend."

"We didn’t have a cello teacher in our small town so we decided to try taking online lessons. Jessica took my daughter through Suzuki books 1-6. She was very personable and very focused. She kept my daughter motivated and even allowed performance opportunities (Skyping into recitals). We have since moved to a bigger city and my daughter takes live lessons. Her new teacher (who has a doctorate in cello performance) was very impressed with my daughter’s technique. Thanks Jessica for giving my daughter a great musical foundation!"

"Peter is an extremely patient and knowledgeable teacher; it has been a privilege studying the piano and cello with him for the past 2 months. In that brief time, I have completed 16 of the 17 pieces in the first Suzuki book for cello! I have also enjoyed the piano exercises and repertoire he has assigned, which are technical but melodious. He has a great understanding of theory and technique; he is very personable and encouraging; and he was flexible and accommodating about the times and modes (in person and online) for my lessons. I recommend him wholeheartedly to other adult beginners like me and am grateful to be under his tutelage."

What Does it Take to Become a Professional Cello Player?

Pursuing a career in music is a risky decision, because by the nature of the industry few artists can “make it big.” Most artists aren’t pop stars, or even full-time career musicians, and all musicians also teach to remedy this. There are many paths to becoming a professional cello player, and depending on where you start it might be easy or hard to earn a reputation and start making money. I followed an academic path, studying classical music at university and then continuing my research …
