I've been playing bass since I was 11. I have a degree in jazz performance so improvisation plays a key role in my lessons, but am fully capable of teaching any style. If you take lessons with me, we will certainly cover the basics of two finger style grooves, but can easily dive into advanced techniques like two hand tapping, artificial harmonics, chordal playing, three finger techniques, and slapping and popping.

I think the best thing to do is know what kinds of music you want to learn. What songs you want to learn and how fast. If you want to know theory then ask the instructor if that's what they start with. If it's just learning chords or songs then great, if it’s what you want, get after it. If you want to be a rockstar, ask the teacher their opinion on what it would take to make this experience more enjoyable for you..
Frankly, if you're not having fun then why do it?

Bass is really the energy of the band. I have played both upright and bass guitar in orchestras and in bands. It is a very easy instrument to learn and can give you the opportunity to pick your band in so many cases. Some of my guitar students added bass to their repertoire and within weeks have auditioned for and now play in their junior high and high school jazz bands.
About Karney
After playing in bands for the last 23 years, I have decided to focus exclusively on my passion for teaching. It has been a lot of fun continuing to build a comprehensive music program, which now includes an online platform. Currently, I have over 20 years of music teaching experience and a bac
