I've been teaching Voice Lessons for 10 years. I have structure my lessons efficiently so each student begins with the same fundamental techniques appropriate to Classical and Broadway singing. As a bass opera singer and professional voice over artist, I am dedicated to creating a healthy and beautiful sound with my own voice and the voices of my students. I will not come into our lessons saying there is a single way to sing. In fact, many genres require a great deal of varying vocal techniques and stylized voices. What I will do is help to lay a foundation in healthy singing so that you feel comfortable singing any genre. We will start by ensuring that your breath and vowel placement feels comfortable and from there move into repertoire of your choosing or some that I recommend based upon your interests. You will leave your tenure with me empowered to continue your passion and career for singing long after your lessons end. Music is meant to be shared. Together, we will help you to share the music and passion that you hold so dear.

I can’t say enough great things about Matthew! He has been an amazing teacher - his technical expertise, his tremendous patience, and his ability to explain in simple terms and help me understand proper vocal technique has been instrumental in my development. I’m grateful to have found Matthew - he has shown a level of support and commitment to my goals that I haven’t seen in other teachers and I am excited to continue working with him, as I know that with his guidance I’ll achieve them.

Broadway/Musical Theater has a rich and exciting history, evolving from opera to operetta, to major movie productions from the golden era of Hollywood in the 1940's/ 1950's to radical social and political themes from the 1960's (a la Hair) to present day Hamilton. We survey this history with songs spanning the Musical Theater genre, and focus on songs of student's choosing. Exploration of story-line, character study, and "song as monologue" are major considerations within lessons. Audition preparation can be part of the lessons as indicated by the student. In terms of the Broadway "sound", we use exercises that expand the voice in volume, range and emotional expression.

Rachel has taught our son since first grade; he's now in third. She's tailored lessons to his musical taste (the Beatles) while providing a strong foundation on which to build. She's been very flexible and accommodating throughout the switch from in-person to remote lessons, and he really enjoys the time with her. Knowing that so many kids are motivated by short-term goals, she's planned even more recitals during this remote time than when they were solely in-person, and that's been a great motivator for our son to practice.

DO NOT BOOK WITH RACHEL PANAY RAZIEL
It is with deep regret that I have to report that Rachel was clearly INTOXICATED during her lessons with my children today (ages 14 & 11). We will not be using Take Lessons again. There is no way an app can sufficiently vet all these teachers. Please don’t put your children in danger and learn this lesson the hard way like we didi.

Rachel is a great teacher for my 12 year old child. Rachel builds her confidence and meets her exactly where she is at. I highly recommend her.

I would like nothing better than to help you discover and develop your voice's greatest potential. Singing embodies many elements including proper tone production, rhythmic accuracy, proper diction and connecting to and sharing the emotional content of a song. It is a personal journey for singers to learn how to integrate all those elements into their own instruments and I will act as your trusted and supportive guide throughout the process. I have a master's degree in classical vocal performance from the renowned Manhattan School of Music and performed with opera companies in New York City. Currently, in New Orleans, I sing with the joyous Shades of Praise interracial gospel choir. I have had the privilege of studying with some of the finest voice teachers, conductors and coaches that America has to offer and I would love to share that combined knowledge with others. I have also had the agonizing and humbling experience of losing and rebuilding my voice after medical difficulties, ...

I've learned so much in a short period of time with Sheila. She is very easy to get a long with and not intimidating despite her distinguished resume. She has helped me immensely with the awareness of my voice and allowed me to explore my instrument in ways I hadn't try before. Sheila is patient and will continue to approach and explain a technique from different angles (with humour!) until it is grasped. Thanks to her I feel more confident and aware when I'm singing. So thank you very very much!

She’s extremely encouraging and knowledgeable and most importantly through times of my lack of understanding her ability to encourage and inspire me as I continue to trust her training and teaching always prevails that I can accomplish what she knows and believes I am capable of doing.

In singing, we are using an instrument and LoriAnn’s expert training fine tunes that instrument with precision and kindness.
