As an adult beginner, I chose Anastasia for more personalized instruction, especially in technique, after learning the basics through community center group lessons. I have not continued only because another equally well-qualified instructor who lives close by, within walking distance, has become available. I am very pleased with the lessons and pointers that I have received. Anastasia is professional, encouraging, and friendly. An especially helpful part of her instruction is the set of comments and suggestions that she writes down to guide practice between lessons. If the neighbor instructor does not work out, I’ll be back.

I'm satisfied with the lessons I took, even though seven months of piano still not enough.

I learned a lot in seven months with Liana. I was pleased to have her, but I'm still slow. I think I need six months more in order to gain enough speed. Anyway, Liana is a good instructor to start with. She encourages and leaves you with no fear.

Music has been my passion since starting piano and violin lessons aged 7, and then training for years in performance, composition and theory, culminating in a master's degree from the Royal Academy of Music in London, England. My main concerns for students are enjoyment, developing musicality and technique, and learning to read music well. I teach music from different periods in history, including music being composed today. I work with children aged 5 and up, and adults. All levels of experience, including beginners, are welcome. I have taught in schools and privately in my home studio, where I have an upright acoustic Schulze Pollmann (German/Italian) piano and a Yamaha keyboard with weighted keys. Positive reinforcement is my teaching philosophy, and customer satisfaction my top priority!  Check out my availability and let’s get started!

About Karen

My name is Karen and I'm an experienced piano teacher and composer with a conservatory education. I welcome students aged 5 years and up, and with all levels of experience. I am an enthusiastic, encouraging teacher who will help you achieve your goals as a musician.

I feel very fortunate to have found Ivan, and have benefitted from his instruction in many ways. I began taking lessons with him at the age of 60, as an intermediate piano student. Ivan has a way of understanding your skill level and goals, and teaching you how best to practice on your own. His encyclopedic knowledge of classical music enriches the experience, but he is easily versatile enough to teach jazz theory as well. Ivan encourages performance at recital, and his students are always well prepared. He is an outstanding musician who frequently performs in public. Give yourself over to Ivan’s instruction and improve your technique, understanding of theory, sight reading, and knowledge of classical music. You will enjoy playing the piano more than ever.

If you are reading this review, of course, is because you are collecting information about great piano teachers in your area. If that’s the case, let me tell you that you should stop reading this review and contact Mr. Shapovalov without wasting any more time.

He just left our house, like any other Saturday afternoon for three years now, and every time he leaves, I have the same feeling of putting my son’s musical knowledge in the best hands (ever).

Our son passed this year the Certificate of Merit in Piano with a perfect score, and we thank 100% Mr. Shapovalov for such success.

Mr. Shapovalov is a great pianist, educated, polite, and kind. Our son loves him like he was family, and his performance just gets better and better. It is unbelievable how much he improved working with Mr. Shapovalov.

Mr. Shapovalov organizes recitals, workshops, and pre-tests in order to prepare his students for the Certificate of Merit test. He takes proud in his students’ success and works with our son using multiple approaches, all of them orientated to make the lesson fun and useful, totally aligned with the Certificate of Merit test expectations.

I feel bad it took so long to write a review about this fabulous teacher. I guess I didn’t want to share our “treasure” with anybody else! But seriously: if you are looking for a committed, professional musician, and stellar teacher, all in one person… contact Mr. Shapovalov. Enjoy.
Ivan
I am DJ and sound producer. And i used to study Harmony and chord progressions with Ivan. He helped me to improve my theoretical and practical knowledge and teached me how to use classical musical theory in modern dance music. I really can recommned this teacher not only for beginners but also for advanced students who have lack of theory base.

"When I began taking piano lessons with Ruth, I had some elementary experience playing instruments years ago. I am an older adult student and although I hesitated initially to start learning again, I am very happy that I did start taking piano with Ruth. She understands exactly my strong and weak points and suggests better ways for me to practice. She is patient, tactful and encouraging and helps me working on my technique. I've been enjoying my classes with Ruth immensely. And I've been enjoying listening to her playing as well. Any time, at the end of our class, I ask her to play a different piece for me, she does it beautifully. I can highly recommend Ruth for children and adults alike."

"I came back to learning piano about a year ago after not playing for more than 20 years and didn't know what to expect in terms of how much I could realistically improve. Under Fawn's patient guidance, the change in my playing has been beyond anything I imagined possible. Fawn's approach to technique, practicing and performing is intuitive and very effective and has given me the confidence to tackle more and more challenging pieces believing that with her help I will get there eventually. I would highly recommend Fawn for anyone wanting to improve their playing, whatever age or ability."
