I decided to pick up the trumpet in my 30s having no experience with it, just an appreciation of the music. Ch
As a given, he's very professional, always on time etc. And clearly he's a very good musician, and has plenty of experience teaching and performing. I also appreciate that he's been flexible on rescheduling lessons as I have had a good bit of travel and conflicts.
Aside from those basics, what makes him a good teacher and sets him apart I think are:
- Chuck really tries to tailor the lessons to the student's interest. For me that's jazz and funk music.
- Offers very good, focused suggestions for practice. I feel like I get much more out of practice when I do what he recommends, and I think he's very thoughtful in providing direction for how to practice.
- He makes music theory and technique accessible. I don't have a musical background but I'm learning a lot of different concepts along with learning to play the instrument. Chuck explains them well in a way that makes sense.
- He's generally encouraging and fun. Lessons are enjoyable and productive, but don't feel like work.
I look forward to continuing to learn from him."
I can confidently recommend Holly as an instructor for any student who wishes to play trumpet. I believe she is the perfect instructor for my middle school daughter."
My son decided to start playing the trumpet this year, in 7th grade. He was significantly behind his peers since most of them have been playi
Last month, he started taking lessons via Skype with Chuck. He has been a wonderful teacher. He's very patient and thorough. In just a few lessons, my son has made significant improvement. His band teacher has even noticed and commented on it. My son is very excited with what he has learned from Chuck each week. Chuck is always on time with the Skype call and we love the convenience of not even having to leave the house!
Also, my son is on the autism spectrum (Asperger's) and Chuck has been fabulous with him. He's kind and very patient. He puts things in terms that my son can understand and goes at his pace.
All in all, we are very happy with Chuck."
And they're not alone!
