Been teaching for 10 years

About Jean
Jean is patient, fun, and imaginative. She also loves passing on the gift of music to anyone wanting to learn!

Jean's philosophy of teaching is; 1. Taking on any new task requires time and discipline. Mistakes are a part of the learning process. The biggest challenges reap the greatest rewards.

2. The student and teacher are a team! The teacher and student will work together to learn together. As the student is learning new skills and techniques, the teacher is learning all about the student and their specialized needs.

Jean's Education:

Jean is a graduate of Bradford College in Bradford MA with a Bachelors Degree in Creative Arts. Her major instrument is piano.

Jean's Experience:

Jean began playing piano at the age of 5. Taking a break from lessons for a few years as a teenager and picking it up again in College.

Jean has been teaching piano for 10 years.

*** Lesson Details ***
Within a lesson, students can expect to be given instruction on developing proper technique. (scales, chords, basic music theory etc). The learning environment will be laid back and fun, with the student and teacher setting goals together, and reasonable expectations will be held for both the student and teacher.

Jean will ask what it is in particular that the student is wanting to learn, and will seek to develop curriculum centered around the student's goals. Weekly practice (5 days a week, 20-30 minutes a day) will be the encouraged minimum. This will vary slightly depending on individual student needs.

Students will have the opportunity to learn to play music by composers such as Mozart and Bach. They can also learn how to play movie soundtracks, tunes from their favorite Broadway or Disney songs, and more! Vocal students will have the opportunity to learn show tunes, Italian arias, German songs, praise and worship songs, their favorites from musicals, and more.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Lessons in living room with piano.

Piano lessons are a joy to teach! Let me inspire you. Within the first few lessons, you'll know terminology and piano basics such as rhythm and body placement, and as time goes on you'll be able to play classics, standards and more. I typically use method books combined with traditional repertoire.

***My Equipment***

I own an extended upright Knabe on which I conduct lessons. Skype and computer hardware via tablet and laptop. Extensive music library of several hundred books and thousands of pieces or music. Printer/Scanner/Copier and high speed internet connectivity. Digital and traditional ticking metronomes. Flashcards and numerous other learning materials and aids.

Both online lessons and lessons at my location are conducted in my home living room with the piano lid open.

***At the lesson***

During the lesson, students will begin with a performance of the material they have completed throughout the week. Corrections may be made. Students may have to repeat ...

Our daughter is taking lessons with Doniell and after every lesson is thrilled to share her experiences. Doniell has been exceedingly accomodating of our schedule, making it absolutely pleasant to work with her. We are a homeschool family and she offered time outside of evening hours. We had several illnesses and issues with travel during the snow this past winter and she has always been understanding and patient with rescheduling. Our daughter is very enthusiastic about piano and many things in life, we are thankful we have Doniell to guide her as she continues to develop a passion for music.

Want to learn piano but don't know where to start? Interested in giving those piano lessons from when you were a kid another shot? I'm your gal! With 12+ years of piano training under my belt, I can provide you with a fun and simple crash-course that allows you to adopt a jack-of-all-trades mentality, which ranges from following what's on the page to "faking it."

About Allison
Thanks for stopping by! My name is Allison, and I'm a student with a passion for music!

I am a classically trained vocalist, pianist, and composer who has been studying music for 16 years. My abilities in ear-training and sight-reading have given me the perfect springboard to experiment with different musical techniques, and I have spent my time as a music student developing my own jack-of-all-trades style.

Piano students can expect to learn beginner tools such as basic sight-reading techniques and proper finger coordination to finding exciting ways to "fake" your way through a piece. I aim to give students an adaptable tool box that allows them to feel confident in multiple facets of piano-playing.

Vocal students can expect to approach their singing with a musician's ear, and gain the confidence to nail their next big audition
or voice recital. I aim to provide a leg up in sight-reading and ear training to give the student an advantage over their peers.

I like to focus on cultivating a love for music in my lessons! Too often, I have heard adults tell stories of giving up on music lessons at an early age, just because they didn't enjoy it! I think every kid learns differently, and creating a lifetime passion for music is the most important part of beginner lessons!

About Caroline
Hi, I'm Caroline! I love to sing, write songs, play the piano, saxophone, and a little guitar! I recently graduated from the Frost School of Music in Miami, where I got my degree in Songwriting and Music Entrepreneurship. My favorite classical composer is Chopin, but I am a huge musical theater nerd, and love to learn Broadway songs on the piano!

Bridget worked with me to compose a new piece for an acapella arrangement for nearly 20 people. The original piece was a pop rock song with one singer, a piano, guitar, bass, and drums.

Prior to her lesson and assistance, I had never arranged a musical piece before, though I could read and write music and was able to plunk out a few notes.

Bridget was patient, knowledgeable, and a pleasure to work with. I will definitely be reaching out to Bridget again for additional lessons!
