I always say to students, it's not WHAT you're playing, it's HOW you're playing it that is the sign of a good player. Technique -- the HOW -- is extremely critical, before one can play pieces -- the WHAT -- well. Lessons with me involve establishing a solid basis of technique, also learning to read music rather than playing only by ear, and of course, learning pieces. Get ready for a wonderful journey of discovery about the intricacies, difficulties, AND rewarding joys of playing the viola!

Charles has been great with my early skill development. He continues every week to stress the basic for my violin training. He remains supportive and patient. We have had lessons in person and online. I am beginner at 65 years old and I would highly recommend Charles Bossert as a violin, and other strings instruments instructor. Thank You Charles for your help.

I've been taking violin lessons with Susanna for over 3 months. I'm 36, and had never picked up a violin before, although I did know how to read music. She has been great to work with. She adapted the classes to my strengths and weaknesses, and is very easy going. Exactly what I was looking for!

I had decided to pick up the violin during the pandemic, so remote was the only option. I was a little worried that remote lessons might make it hard for my teacher to coach me on form, particularly. That hasn't been an issue at all. Susanna regularly gives me notes on bowing, fingering, and tune. It works quite well, and she's been flexible about which video conferencing system we use.

Can't recommend Susanna enough! She's amazing.

I am section violist in the Nashville Symphony Orchestra and I have played extensively with the Cincinnati, Indianapolis and Chautauqua Symphony Orchestras. I received my bachelors degree and artist diploma from the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music where I studied with Masao Kawasaki and Jan Gruning.

I believe that every student is unique and deserves specific teaching catered to their individual musical needs. Many teachers, I find, try to impose their methods and feel there is no room for exceptions.

About Emilio

Hi! My name is Emilio, I am a section viola player in the Nashville Symphony Orchestra. Prior to this, I was a member of the viola section in the Dayton Philharmonic. I received my Bachelor of Music Degree and Artist Diploma from the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music under the tutelage of Masao Kawa

Whether you're 3 or 103, if you're playing viola (or starting to play!) I hope you're EXCITED about it!! Over the years, my students have said that their lessons are/have been their favorite times of each week. I believe learning to play viola should be full of joy, learning, thinking, and feeling. Bring that joy alive for yourself by partnering with me as your musical guide. I bring over 30 years of experience and pure joy to my work, and I'd love to share that with you!

"Helen has taught and is continuing to teach both my daughter, for viola, and my son, for violin. Helen has been absolutely amazing with each of my children. She has been able to adjust to their needs and personalities keeping them engaged and excited to keep learning.

I love that Helen makes sure her students understand the fundamentals of their instruments, and she spends time teaching the kids the correct way to hold the instruments and bow so they form good habits from the beginning.

Helen is patient, kind and full of positivity and praise for her students. I am thrilled to have Helen work with my children."

"As a former professional musician with an undergrad in Music, my standards are pretty high when I'm selecting musicians to teach my kids. My son has been taking viola lessons with Regina for 2.5 years. She is professional but also down-to-earth and great to work with. My son, now an 8th grader, played a level 1 solo at the District and State ISSMA contests and earned a Gold at both levels--the only kid in his school to do so. We credit Regina for appropriately pushing him to be his best. You can be assured that when you choose Regina, you're choosing one of the very best teachers around."

"I thought I wanted to take viola lessons. Then I read her website and I realized that she might be able to help me get my voice back! I thought there was no hope ever. She has been extremely generous with her time, and I haven't seen her yet, but I'm not buying the viola I was planning on buying. I play cello, and piano still, but I am going to see if she can help me with my voice. She sounds incredible. I never dreamed that I could even have HOPE like this!"
