Every student is different. I've found that students have vastly different, ages, tastes, goals, and want to learn for different reasons. They also learn and develop in different ways and at different pa
I consider myself a "groove" player and in my musical world, my focus is on rhythm section work. To get there you must first learn several skills. Technique, Timing, Ear Training, and Theory are what I consider the 4 main "food groups" in the "diet" of any good musician. My job is to steer each individual student down the path that gets them there at their pace AND to make it fun. After all people don't choose to learn because they have too, they choose to learn because they want to. Why? Because it's cool and it's fun!
I like to dedicate a portion of the lesson to having fun with the instrument. A student may be interested in a certain band or bass player and wants to learn their song. I will ask them to bring me the song (I may already know it) and we'll learn it together. I like to play musical, or instrument related games to help the student learn in an non-stressful, happy and fun way. I think it makes a difference.

Had a really nice first lesson with Al. He is a good guy and a we had fun jamming out on a couple jazz standards and talking about scales. He has good knowledge of the instrument and i was happy to see that he played a 6string like myself. I enjoyed the lesson.

Beginner studies in Bass, learn to play bass lines, understand chord progressions and fundamental notes.
About Anthony
After graduating as the only student to study in the Piano department for 4 years in my graduating class, I was accepted with scholarship to Berklee College of Music in Boston. I started my first semester in 2009, and declared a Piano Performance and Jazz Composition Dual Major in 2010. At Berklee, I studied under amazing piano teachers to focus on my jazz playing and technique and repertoire. Some of the classes I took included music theory, ear training, composition and arranging, scoring and analysis, even guitar and bass labs. As well, I was the main piano player for the Berklee Salsa Ensemble for 3 straight years. I was also involved with bands and playing recitals, shows, clubs, outdoors and indoor venues throughout Boston and Massachusetts. I had the honor of being hired by Berklee to travel and play along with other selected students at the Carnaval de Barranquilla honoring Joe Arroyo. This was the most memorable musical experience for me yet, as I played along great musicians for hundreds of people in a theater, including Joe Arroyo sharing the stage with the band.
All of this experience and training is what I bring to my lessons and tutoring sessions. I teach my students how to prepare themselves for any kind of musical situation, from music theory and technique, to piano playing and repertoire, and understanding and playing all kinds of styles and genres of music. Most of all, I teach my students to be unique in their musical endeavors and to bring out their own voice through music. And the most important element of all, the happiness and joy it brings to the students and others.
*** Lesson Details ***
In my piano and music lessons, you will be learning music theory, proper piano technique, ear training, sight reading, and repertoire. It will be up to the student to determine what genre and style of music they want to learn and study. It can be anything from classical music, jazz, or even Funk and R&B music and more. My students will also develop an ear, meaning that instead of only focusing on written material and music in sheet music format, they will learn to hear intervals and chords, and also play or sing back melodies.
My teaching style is very easy to get along with. I don't pressure or push students by being too strict. When learning music, being hard and strict gets the student nowhere. I approach the student with listening and understanding. It's my job to see the students advantages and keep them strong, as well as working on bringing up weaknesses and what's needed to make the student excel in both playing technique, and all other musical aspects.
When it comes to proper piano technique, I always teach my students with "Hanon, the Virtuoso Pianist in sixty excercises", and "Scales, Chords & Arpeggios" by James Bastien. After 3-6 months as my student, you will progress in your technique skills, ear training, repertoire and memorization

I'm a fairly laid back instructor, however I am meticulous about the student getting the exercise correct and assimilating the info. I use a progressive curriculum starting from the basics and going to the advanced. After 3-6 months of study with me, guitarists will be able to compose their own songs and will have learned basic soloing methods. Bass students will be able to compose simple walking lines over basic chord changes and have a good understanding of the bass guitar's function in a band setting.

I can teach all levels and many styles. I make it easy for you to learn at you're own pace so you can achieve your goals and have fun playing music.
About Thomas
Tom began teaching in 1994 and still practices today instructing students of all ages on guitar and bass techniques, as well as music theory.
Tom is very laid back and embraces working at the pace that each of his students feels most comfortable. Lessons are about the student’s ambitions. If it is learning their favorite songs or a deep dive into music theory, jazz improvisation or songwriting it can be covered in strides that seem fit to the student. Books can be used for guidance and a custom lesson plan created that will fit specific criteria desired to be achieved by the student. Remember, practice makes perfect. The more you put in, the more you will get out of it!!

I've been playing and teaching bass for several years, originally coming to it as a guitarist. I was asked to cover for the bassist in a band, and ever since then I've taken every opportunity to perform or teach bass. It's really a fun instrument with a crucial role to play in the function of a band. Depending on your interests, I can teach you to walk a swinging jazz bass line, lay down a deep funk pocket, or rock out on one of your favorite songs. The only constant in every lesson plan: rhythm. Every musician needs a solid grasp of rhythm, but with the bass this is especially crucial, as it's the bass and drums that make people dance. Bass lessons with me can go a lot of different directions, but making people dance will always be a part of the agenda!

Students can experience a lesson plan directly formulated towards their own personal interests. This could range from basic guitar fundamentals, which include learning basic chords, scales, reading music, playing different rhythmic patterns and playing beginner level songs. More advanced topics could also be implemented such as, modes, rhythmic syncopation, and harmonic chord progressions. Also, if the student wants to learn how to play their favorite songs this can also be arranged.
About Jeremy
I have proficient skills in music performance, sight reading, sight singing, music theory, part writing and composition. If you want to start to uncover music theory, or you just learn to play a few of your favorite songs or solos I can help get you where you want to be. I look forward to teaching all inspired musicians

There are many ways to cultivate your musical skill whether it's visual, kinesthetic, or auditory. Let's find out which way works best for you!
Most schools do not offer the flexibility in learning styles necessary for you to find your ideal way of processing new information, whether it be visual, auditorial, kinesthetic, memetic, right brain/left brain, etc.
That's why I'm here! I pride myself on working with each individual student on the subtle ways that they learn and form healthy habits. If you have any questions about my teaching styles or methods please ask!
A little more about me:
I have over 10 years of guitar experience, studying under Jazz heavyweights Corey Christiansen, Oteil Burbridge, and Dan Miller. I pride myself in putting my students needs and wants above all else. I wish to impart a love for music onto my students that can only be cultivated by the bond a teacher and their student share, let us learn and grow together!
About Grant
My name is Grant and I’ve been helping students grow for over 11 years now! How time flies! I started playing music at the age of 9 and have been in love with it ever since, staying active in my local music scene as an instructor, performer, manager, and booking agent.
I pride myself in taking a students learning needs and using that as my basis for their specific lesson plan, always on a case-by-case basis, tailored to each individual student. Everyone is at a different waypoint on their path so why would I use a predetermined formula to try and help them, am I right?
This can mean using a specific song as a goal and learning the specific techniques that we need in order to learn it as our curriculum. This could also mean finding out if a visual approach to teaching is better than an auditory one. I like to think of thes
In addition to freelance work, (weddings, jazz brunch gigs, etc.) I am the lead guitarist for the Funk/R&B band Water Seed and the soul project RetroFit. I attended Indiana University for jazz guitar and have studied under jazz greats Dan Miller, Corey Christiansen, and Oteil Burbridge.
I teach all kinds of stringed instruments from guitar and bass to mandolin and banjo! If you have any questions about my teaching methods, skill level in a certain discipline, or anything you can think of I would be more than happy to answer you!
Musically yours,
Grant

I've played everything from Bluegrass to Big Band jazz. I don't place any limits on the styles or genres we can explore in our lessons. My main intention is to make music exciting and educational. I tailor my lessons to fit each students goals. We can learn to read, improvise, and play by-ear. For those who are interested, I also enjoy discussing what it's like to make a living as a musician (music equipment, live performance, studio recording, starting a band, finding gigs, etc).
