Singing of all kinds begins with healthy vocal technique. Learning the correct warming up and use of the voice and breath is essential for a career in singing with any longevity. I use a combination of classical (bel canto) and contemporary styles of singing to bring out the best in each student's voice. My work with world renowned Vocal Instructor Jeanne LoVetri, has increased my proficiency in helping students with many kinds of vocal issues, at all levels of experience. We will work on breathing, range, voice blending, resonation, flexibility, projection and articulation, as well as interpretation and acting of the song!

About Wendy
I am a professional singer, songwriter and actor working in the Chicago area for many years. I have a B.F.A. in Theater/Voice from The University of Kansas and an M.A. in Interdisciplinary Arts from Columbia College Chicago. I've been teaching private vocal instruction since 2003: I host the Singer's Salon in Chicago, a unique and supportive venue for singer's to become more comfortable performing before an audience. I also instruct workshops for vocal technique and performance. For 10 years I was the lead singer for The Red Apples, an acoustic/electric roots band that performed an eclectic mix of rock, swing, blues, country and jazz. Within the past year I have re-energized my theater and cabaret career, appearing at Davenport's Cabaret, in a new solo show, as well as productions at Big Noise Theater and Stage 773. I've also completed tw
o short films and started working on my own web series, about my life as a singer/voice teacher. I also have an art song project consisting of original material with composer Jaroslaw Golembiowski. As a singer and actress I have performed with many major theaters in the Chicago area, including Court Theater, Victory Gardens, National Jewish Theater, Bailiwick Theater, and Prop Theater.

*** Lesson Details ***
As a classically trained singer I will instruct you in all aspects of singing technique, from breath control and support to improving your tone, range, flexibility and resonance. I have recently completed training in Somatic Voicework, The LoVetri Method, which has enriched my understanding of the mechanics and health of the voice, as well as applications of technique to CCM or contemporary musical styles of singing.
My familiarity with a variety of musical styles from pop/rock, R&B, and country, to musical theater, lounge and jazz makes me an ideal teacher for those interested in contemporary styles.

I have spent many years developing my own style of singing and instruction. I draw on my experiences and training not only in music, but theater and movement, (Linklater, Alexander Technique, Grotowski) to create a well rounded approach to singing and performing. As an instructor, I am most interested in helping students find their true voice and artistic style. I teach students to find expression through and with a foundation of technique, rather then in spite of it. I also am very interested in helping students deal with the mental/emotional aspects of performance, an all important area so frequently ignored by music teachers. My style is nurturing, yet disciplined, and sprinkled liberally with good-natured humor."

*** Studio Equipment ***
My studio space is fully equipped with a piano, P.A. system with microphones, CD, MP3 player for tracks, and ability to record lessons if the student desires.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Please have a piano (in tune!) or keyboard for use in your in home lessons.

*** Specialties ***
I am classically trained, but I am very adept at teaching music in a wide variety of styles, including most contemporary styles of music including pop/rock, roots, swing, jazz and blues, country, r&b, and of course musical theater and cabaret. My band performs an eclectic mix of originals and covers in the roots rock genre, and I write music as well. I have many years of experience in the theater as an actress, and I coach acting technique and performance. I coach singer/songwriters, and all types of singers, of all ages. I have a workshop that specializes in helping people learn to perform better in front of an audience, and I host the Singer's Salon in Chicago, which is a supportive opportunity to perform regularly! I also coach bands, to improve their vocals, harmonies, etc.

Broadway music is a great way to improve those vocal chords and there is so much material to work with. Most students choose two favorite musicals to start. Or I can definitely help you with that.! Basic concepts are learned or reviewed such as breathing, vowel modification, range extension. I will also incorporate a couple perhaps lesser known musical pieces you may not know and choose ones that will expand your vocal talent.

About Mary
Music degree from Lawrence University and Conservatory in Appleton, WI. Graduate work in conducting, piano, and vocal pedagogy at Westminster Choir College in Princeton. Also certified in Kindermusik for ages newborn to 7.

My studio, since 1993 is located in the back of my house and is in a family friendly location.

As my education originally was music education, elementary and secondary, I have gone on to be certified in teaching adults, both beginning and returning. There is so much piano and vocal educational material geared to the pre-school, the elementary, Jr-Sr high and Adult beginner and I promise we will have fun while learning.....

Anyone can learn an instrument and anyone can learn many different styles. Lessons will be geared toward your interests and goals, which we can work on at your lesson also.

The grea
test virtues of a music teacher are passion, patience, understanding, and communicating. You will experience this in the studio. Give yourself a treat of two months of lessons and I promise you will be playing and/or singing better than you expected.

Member of MTNA (Music Teachers National Association), NFMC (National Federation of Music Clubs),
NJFMC (NJ Fed. of Music Clubs). MENC (Music Ed National Conference),

*** Lesson Details ***
I am generally easy going and laid-back and will work with you to obtain specific goals such as a piece you would really like to learn. I can be strict if assignments are not followed or if there is no progression; we need to analyze why that is. I use many teaching methods as there are many different learning styles. The series I am currently using are Faber, Alfred, and Celebrate Piano! for pianists. Many singers are in Broadway, Disney, and/or English Reliquary and Italian Arias. There are so many wonderful choices! I can guarantee after three months you will be playing some music you like, and you will be reading music, and able to perform if you wish (starting small). With singing you will have basic knowledge of proper posture, breathing, and increased range. I also so enjoy people and communicating so you will feel comfortable taking lessons, and I believe that is one major factor of success in learning an instrument: the student-teacher relationship And second for children, especially the young, is the parent-teacher relationship .

*** Studio Equipment ***
Studio: Yamaha baby grand piano, Kawaii studio upright and keyboard, Yamaha keyboard, recording abilities, computer software, couch and two chairs, parents can sit in on lesson. Also have computer programs for note learning, composition, as well as giving you apps to download.

*** Specialties ***
Different methods for different students. Piano: mostly Faber and Alfred series. "Prodigy": Aaron/Thompson series. I've also had graduate study in teaching the Adult Beginner! As I was a church music director 1994 till last September, I am very familiar with traditional and contemporary sacred music, learning and performing. If you also wish to combine singing and accompanying yourself on piano or guitar lessons can be tailored.

Lessons on Broadway Singing will draw from Erik's experience as the music director of the National Tour of Cabaret, and faculty member at New York University's famed music theater program. Lessons can focus on a variety of areas including learning new material, preparing for auditions, refining performance, acting, and improving vocal technique.

About Erik
Pianist, music director, and vocal coach, Erik was born and raised in Eastern Washington state. As a solo pianist, he has been heard all across the northwest and beyond, in cities including Seattle, Portland, Tacoma, NYC, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Philadelphia, and internationally in Prague and Salzburg. Erik has been a guest artist at Whitman College, Portland State University, The Kairos Chamber Music Lyceum, California State University Summer Arts, the West Seattle Symphony, and the Gig-Harbor Peninsula Symphony Orchestra. In addition to performing, Erik’s passion for teaching has led him to be an adjudicator for various festivals including the Washington Sonata-Sonatina Festival and the Washington Regional Solo and Ensemble Festival.

Erik most recently served as the Music Director for the National Tour of Kander and Ebb's tim
eless musical Cabaret. This production was on tour from December 2017 through May 2018 all across North America. Broadway.com's review praised the musicianship of the show, "Musical director Erik Flaten's musicians are impressive in their dexterity: At one moment, they are providing rich interpretations of the memorable John Kander score, while perhaps at the next they are playing denizens of the Kit Kat Klub or neighborhood thugs, wastrels and other folks of questionable repute. Flaten and his band are given their own richly deserved moments in the spotlight at the top of Act Two and the music director himself is given the well-earned final bow at the end of the curtain call."

Erik currently resides in Philadelphia, where he coaches and plays for a diverse range of singers. In addition to coaching and playing, Erik works as Music Director for musical theater, manages a private studio, and serves as Artistic Director of the Media Performing Arts Series. Previous successes include performances with mezzo-soprano, Angela Niederloh and baritone, Matthew Hayward in Portland, and a performance of the Grieg piano concerto with the West Seattle Symphony. Upcoming engagements on the East Coast include collaborative work with with soprano, Leah Golub.

Students of Erik have the opportunities to perform in studio recitals and workshops.

My focus is to help each student find the easiest and most comfortable sound they can produce, and my goal is to always be supportive of students' individual needs so they can be confident in their progress and artistry. As someone who started out with little singing ability (an octave range, difficulty matching pitch) and who ended attending college on a music scholarship and now sings professionally and competitively, I am a firm believer that anyone can be a singer if they have the right instruction and are willing to work.

About Bruno
Experienced teacher and performer from Austin, Texas. I am a UT Austin Graduate (BA English with honors, BM Voice Performance with honors; minor in Creative writing), receiving scholarships in both fields. I have taught private voice for 6 years and taught 8th Grade English for 2 years. I hired Bruno to help me comprehend my book for class. He showed up and genuinely cared that I was getting it. He showed me a note taking idea that to me seemed that if I just wrote a couple of ideas down I’d go back and know where I was as far as going back and studying. He asked if I needed to write this point down and basically showed how to do the job. Great work.

Mr. Barbosa is a very outgoing person who always checks in on his students before we begin the lesson. At the
beginning of the lesson, we start with warm-ups so our voice is
ready to sing high or low notes. When you first start with Mr. Bar-
bosa, he will have you sing multiple songs and scales so he can
learn your vocal range. Mr. Barbosa makes sure that you understand
the content and if you don't, he is helpful and explains it in a way we
can comprehend. Lessons are a great way to improve your singing.
I’m becoming more comfortable performing in front of my peers.

Want to increase your range? Want to learn how to belt the healthy way? Or want to find the "acting connection" in your 16 bar audition song? Well I am here to help! I completed my Masters in Musical Theatre from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, currently ranked as the 3rd best Performing Arts Institution in the world. I've performed in regional houses throughout the US, Off Broadway, and at the Edinburgh Fringe festival! I draw on my education and acting experiences from both the US and the UK to help you find the truth in acting through song, making sure you can sustain those high notes, and building the stamina you need for a professional career. I also will give you customized acting and singing advice, as well as how to avoid the mistakes I made starting out in my career. If this sounds like a good fit for you, shoot me a message and let's get started!

About Caroline
Hi there! My name's Caroline, and I'm a working actor and teacher in Chicago. I received my BA in Theatre Arts at the University of Mississippi, and then pursued my Masters in Musical Theatre from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, currently ranked 3rd best Performing Arts Institution in the world. I want to make sure that no matter where you are in your singing or acting career, you will become confident in your skills and be ready to face the world and show just what you uniquely have to offer!

I’ve studied extensively with singing professionals, running the gamut. From members of the National Opera Association to certified Estill Method teachers to pop artists, I take my vast array of knowledge to make sure I find a method and practice that works best for YOU.

Voice students can expect a noticeable improvement in their vocal t
echnique. Whether you’re looking to expand your range, learn how to “belt” or sing classically, or be able to create a true acting connection with a song, I can help you! We’ll start by diagnostically looking at your voice, breaking any “bad habits” and creating a solid foundation on which to build.

I also teach acting, and strive to make sure I meet whatever are my student’s custom criteria: whether that is nailing an audition or callback, how to fully create your own unique approach to a character, or how to make yourself a more flexible and dynamic actor as a whole. I also love helping people crack the daunting code that is Shakespeare and making it more relatable and approachable.

Performing arts teachers are basically cheerleaders, therapists, and mentors all rolled into one; and I hope that I can be that for you! I love teaching because nothing is quite as exhilarating as seeing firsthand how much someone can improve in their skill. So if this sounds like a good fit for you, shoot me a message and let's see just how far you can go to improve yourself and achieve your goals!

My singing lessons are not just lessons, it s an experience. I go deep into coaching safe and efficient exercises for their vocal type. I train my students on how to use their core correctly in order for their real voice to come out
My voice students get tips on how to professionally record their voice in the studio
I also coached how to release stage frights and become friend with a microphone, and how to gain confidence with their voice.

About Marj
While sharing a stage with Tim McGraw, being trained with Gladys Knight, performed for the CEO of Apple, producing countless sold out live shows myself, and opened for the NBA season Utah Jazz home Game by performing the National Anthem January 12, 2019, and featuring in Angels of the Greatest Showman Live for the Hollywood on Broadway Company in SLC, February 7-8, with six members of the original cast of the movie is so much fun, teaching my vocal technics to others is absolutely my favorite.

Seeing my voice students progress, being confident on a stage, and watching them winning awards or get call backs after big auditions make me feel so accomplished. I have a passion to share the gift of singing to others.

I was born and raise in Haiti in very humble conditions. I wasn't privileged to take voice music or dance lessons at a
young age, so now I get excited to teach it. What I had as a young girl was the talent, and a wonderful church group who lived for music just like me. I was very excited when I started to get training to become a better singer myself, and to train others.

I am looking forward to become your new friend, and best vocal coach you have had in your life. See you in our studio or online.

Love always

Do you want to learn how to use your voice to its fullest capacity? If you want to learn how to be a classical singer, sing better in your church or community choir, nail that musical theater audition, or even just rock your next karaoke night, I can help you out!

Hi, I'm Garry, and I'm a singer and voice teacher in the Boston area. I have a bachelors in music from Ithaca College (2009) and a Master's in Voice from McGill University (2012) where I studied with esteemed baritone Sanford Sylvan. I am comfortable teaching a wide variety of styles from classical to pop to folk and much more.

My philosophy on teaching simply put is: YOU are the instrument. That means that we will spend time finding your individual voice, and analyzing and developing strategies for overcoming things that get in the way of you singing to your heart's content. I love teaching students of all ages and backgrounds. Due to my extensive training, I have something to offer even advanced students, and ...

About Garry
My name is Garry, and teaching is one of the greatest joys in my life. I make sure to share that joy with my students, and they will attest that an hour spent coaching with me isn't just good for the voice, it's also good for body and soul. We focus on simplifying everything, so that we can build a strong awareness of breath, and a kinesthetic awareness of the larynx and supporting musculature.

I trained with Sanford Sylvan, who was instrumental in developing my teaching philosophy. He showed me how to see the individuality in every voice, and how to draw that out and make it something each singer can rely on to carry their message. He had a bit of a "zen" approach to singing that has filtered into my practice as well. We take time to listen to ourselves, so that we can give our voice what it needs.

I am experienced with a wid
e variety of students. Aspiring professionals, hobbyists, young children, even frontmen from rock bands have entered my studio and left feeling a healthier approach to their vocal production. I am keenly aware of the vocal stress that some pop music places on voices, and am very good at helping aspiring singers sing naturally and healthily.

In short, I will help you find YOUR voice, and we will have a blast doing it, I guarantee it.

I teach out of my home in Malden, MA, just outside of Boston, still accessible via the Orange Line, and I also offer online lessons.

Garry is extraordinary. In just under two years, he has helped my teenage son improve his singing more than I thought possible. Wyatt started with a very narrow range and real challenges with pitch. His range has expanded INCREDIBLY; I am really in awe. It's not just that Garry brings expertise and experience to his work. He also balances high and clear expectations with kindness and encouragement. My son is an actor first, singer second - but the voice training has translated well to Wyatt's theatre training also. I feel really lucky that we found Garry.

I've been taking voice lessons with Garry for over a year now, and let me assure you that he is STELLAR. Warm, talented, and engaging, Garry is a master at creating a safe space where he can really push me to do better in a constructive and supportive way. He meets me right wherever I happen to be mentally and physically on lesson days and, no matter how I walked into the studio, I always leave feeling like good work was done and noticeable progress was made. He astutely picks up on whatever challenges/blocks I am encountering in our work together, and seamlessly adapts his lesson style and plan to directly address and respect my needs. And it's obvious from how he operates that he wholeheartedly loves this work. I am ever eager for my next lesson with Garry!
