I love teaching and playing piano, and would love to share my passion with you!

For children, I prefer the Piano Adventure Series, and for adults I use Alfred.

About Martina
Hi! My name is Martina and I am a classically trained violist. For my background, I received a Master of Music from Roosevelt University, where I studied with Lawrence Neuman of the Chicago Symphony. I received an undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin with Sally Chisholm of the Pro Arte quartet.

The only thing I love more than playing viola is sharing the joy of music with others! I've received training on violin and viola and can't wait to start teaching you or your child.

For the past two years, my focus in my music studies has been primarily in classical piano. A few of the composers whose works I have had the great pleasure of practicing as well as studying in depth have been: Johann Sebastian Bach, Claude Debussy, Edvard Grieg, and Franz Joseph Haydn.

About Paulette
Hello!

My name is Paulette L., and I am a recent graduate of Elmhurst College, which is located in the nearby suburb of Elmhurst, Illinois. In May, I earned my Bachelor's in Music Business along with minors in Communications and Spanish.

Music has played a significant role in my life since I began studying piano at the age of 5, and it continued to play this significant role after I began taking guitar lessons at the age of 10. After about 7 years of piano studies and 2 years of guitar studies, I decided to take a small break from my overall music studies and instead place my focus on my academics and additional extracurricular activities. Shortly after beginning high school, however, I started up my guitar studies again through my involvement in my Parish'€™s Young Adult Choir/Band. Shortly afterwards, during my sophomo
re year of high school to be precise, I was walking by the piano in the living room of my house and felt a small tug to sit down and try to plunk out a few measures of a slightly familiar song; ever since then, I have not been quite able to stop wanting to keep learning!

Throughout the four years I studied and enhanced my skills at Elmhurst College, I took private lessons for Piano, Classical Guitar, and Voice, and I have completed four levels of Music Theory. I am organized, hard~working, detail~oriented, accustomed to working with people of a variety of age groups and learning preferences, sociable, adaptable, easy to get along with, fair, creative, pro~active, and proficient in English and Spanish.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact TakeLessons and I wish you the best in your future music studies!

Paulette is a phenomenal teacher. She's been very patient and tried different approaches with my 5 year old son and that has worked very well for Dylan (including him telling her the names of dinosaurs and cars characters he has and quizzing her on it :)) I hoped that at the end of the first 5 lessons Dylan would have an appreciation for and want to learn piano and thanks to Paulette, he not only wants to learn but also is excited about it and teaches his dad what he learns. I am so happy with this that I just bought and additional 12 lessons! I would recommend Paulette to anyone looking to learn to play the piano!!

I've concertized in tux and white tails in front of symphony orchestras and played recitals that required two intermissions, all by myself.

About Jon
Jon N. was born and raised in Mexico City and is proudly an American citizen. He has been performing since the age of three, on several instruments, studying music since fourteen, and still takes lessons to this day. What's not to love?

He is proud to teach at all levels, including many professional musicians with master’s degrees, adult beginners, and of course, kids of all ages between 8 and 75.

They are encouraged to select the music they want to learn, so we have worked on classical music and original compositions, which I also coach, jazz, blues, pop, rock, the Great American Songbook, reggae, seven different kinds of Jewish music, and other ethnic music from all over the globe.

Frequently the younger students will request a tune I've never heard, but I magically transform the MP3 into a handwritten score at the student's l
evel. Example, one of my adult beginners wanted to play the big symphonic poem Scheherazade, and I wrote out the main tunes for easy piano.

First time playing piano? Resuming after years of not playing the piano? No matter your age or experience, you can always learn and improve.

About Bill
I have always been a self-studier in my entire life. Being able to learn with just books and your brain is a crucial skill to have! However, I know not everyone (and sometimes even myself) have the discipline and motivation to keep going during hard times. This is where a tutor would come in handy.

I enjoy tutoring and helping other overcome problems that I have encountered myself because it enhances my own understanding and makes me happy that my self-studying is helping others. Sometimes, my students even bring up alternative ways of thinking that I have never thought of before!

Experienced teacher available for students of all ages! I structure my lessons with multiple sets of books and can give a solid foundation of music theory and piano technique. Students will leave with a solid foundation in piano.

About Andrea
I am a professional opera singer and voice teacher. I graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University with a Bachelors of Music in Vocal Performance.

Voice students can expect to find a solid foundation in vocal technique from lessons each week. They also will find a foundation in music theory and sight singing which I believe are incredibly important to developing well-rounded musicianship. Singing should also be fun! I believe that together, we can find music that is enjoyable for you to perform and that will help create a life-long love of singing.

My personal passion is classical music and musical theatre but I strongly believe that healthy technique is critical for every type of singer. I look forward to meeting you!

Andrea is a kind and patient instructor. When I took my first lesson with Andrea, I hadn't sung in years. By the end of that lesson, I already felt like I'd improved a great deal. She gave me the tools to continue growing as a musician.
I've had several voice teachers and Andrea is among the best. Her teaching style is very clear and accessible. She also has a great understanding of the voice as an instrument and won't push you to do more than your voice is ready for in a given lesson.

Basically, I focus on big visual aids for beginners, traditional songs for intermediates, and master-class-style teaching for advanced students.
I also make my own visual music teaching aids from longhand and from using Finale software, due to my strong music composition background. For those with no piano experience, I would introduce a music appreciation type of teaching with eurythmics and rudiments of music to introduce these students to what will be piano music they can see visually and perform on the piano itself.

My teaching style is a bit mixed, using several traditional styles such as the "I play, you play" method, reinforcement tactics, and several review methods. But overall, I provide gentleness and patience in all teaching deliveries, regardless of level or experience. I can also provide duet accompaniment as needed.

About Charles
I was born as a gifted pianist and composer and destined to love music for a long time.

When I first started piano, I had gone through at least 6 piano teachers, including the toughest one, Emilio del Rosario. After starting to study piano at college-level, I earned a BM in Piano at Roosevelt University, and got MM and DMA degrees in Piano at the University of Illinois. I grew up with a very strong classical music background, and gradually, I was able to acclimate to non-classical styles later, including jazz, folk, pop, and rock.

Inspired by J.S. Bach and Robert Schumann, I also at least composed piano pedagogy pieces of my own for the intermediate levels, including "Sad Waltz in D Minor", and "Hungarian Rhapsody in E Minor", in addition to composing a lot more traditional piano compositions.

I also can teach music appreciation, p
iano literature, music theory/composition, and even some music history as well as applied piano. My focus would be on advanced students but I am still open to all levels of piano ability.

I also have a dance background, so this will help me greatly in my music teaching style as well.

Charles is a maestro on the piano, a truly phenomenal talent. Just hearing him play is motivating inspiration to a student-- to listen to him perform, one realizes what the potential exists in the human talent. He is a sensitive and caring person who has a sincere passion for music and passing the skill on to others. He is well-versed in theory and technique, but is also delighted to share his love for more experimental and avant-garde modes --pushing boundaries and exploring new territories, should the student's interest venture that way. He lets the student direct what genre and composers s/he wants to learn about. Charles is a joy and an uplifting spirit to be around! His knowledge of piano and music is a tremendous resource. He is a cherished star of the Chicago underground music scene, as well as a skilled accompanist, and a seasoned professional church hymn player-- but he is modest enough to not let his reputation distract him during his lessons, where he is a serious teacher, eager to share his knowledge with others.

Hello! I love playing the piano and sharing that with other people. We need a few basic scales and basic theory to get started and get comfortable using the piano for enjoyment. Then you can play your favorite tunes!

About John
Hi, my name is John. I am currently living in Chicago and am part of an opera program with the Chicago Opera Theater. I enjoy performing opera as well as playing piano. I sing at my local church and enjoy branching out into other musical genres. I have two degrees in music.
I have sung in choirs and taken piano lessons since I was four years old. Music has been one of my greatest joys in life.
It is always a pleasure to teach other people and to see and feel the excitement build as the student makes progress. If you are unsure or afraid to sing for other people, don't worry, you just need some confidence!
