About Ray

Hello! My name is Ray, I'm 31 years old, and was born in Queens, NY. I studied classical music for many years as a youngster at the Aaron Copeland School of Music college preparatory program. During this program I was introduced to Jazz, and around the same time began experimenting with synth

Ray is an amazing teacher. My 11-year-old has high-functioning autism and has a great interest in learning music. I was hesitant to hire just any teacher, as many teachers don't have the patience and understanding to work with special needs kids. However, Ray has been not only patient, but he has an exceptional way of teaching my son in a way that he would understand and retain the information. Ray is creative, intuitive, and experienced. My son is very happy and enjoys the lesson every single time. Thanks Ray.

My daughter is loving her cello lessons with Ray even more than she expected. She feels she is really improving.

Michelle is a great instructor. She is so patient and sweet! Thank you for your encouraging words to my daughter and for motivating her to practice more.

Michelle is an amazing teacher. I struggle with anxiety when performing in front of people. I am also too harsh on myself. She has the experience to help conquer both issues and many more. She is very prescriptive in her approach to teaching, yet also flexible in tailoring her approach to students. She was definitely born with the gift of teaching music.

My goal as a teacher is to give you the facility to express yourself through music. The key parts to developing this facility are:

1. theory -- if you know your theory, you know the best way to express your idea without having to think about it
2. technique -- the last thing you want is for your technique to hinder your ability to express your idea. Having good technique lets your ideas flow naturally

When you take lessons with me, you get out of it what you put in. Your job as student is to be honest with what you expect to achieve and my job as teacher is to give you the tools to achieve it

About David

I am a bass player first, not a guitarist who also teaches bass. Students will learn technique, theory and groove from a teacher who understands that as bass players, we are in a unique position. Since bass is both a harmony and rhythm instrument we have the opportunity to develop into leaders in

David was very patient and thorough with the introductory lesson. He corrected some basic habits my son had and had him sounding better in 10 minutes.

He also had practical recommendations for daily practice.

I highly recommend David.
Chris H.
David went over basic music theory and rhythm with me, and corrected some technique issues. He explained things clearly and when we put some of it into practice in the final minutes I saw instant results. Absolutely excited to do my homework and for my next lesson.
Robert F.
As a beginning, self-taught bass player of four months, I wanted to find a teacher who could analyze and critique my playing. I scheduled five lessons with David over a time period of three months. David was instrumental in analyzing and critiquing bad techniques and habits I acquired. He very thoroughly emphasized proper fretting technique and finger positioning; exercises were given that helped me obtain full tonal quality and efficient fretboard navigation skills. We also reviewed basic theory, scale modes, rhythmic weight, pentatonics and arpeggios; seminal knowledge for the beginner.

A technical type player, David has excellent playing skills as well as a comprehensive knowledge of theory and its practical application. He is a good listener and showed a genuine interest in helping me achieve my goals. I definitely can see an improvement in my playing skills....playing more confidently and efficiently.

Highly recommended.......

I provide lessons in all styles of music including jazz, classical, rhythm & blues, hip-hop, and others. My students have won top awards in their respective school music programs including orchestra, band, and jazz band. I emphasize having fun, and allowing the student to discover and choose what music they want to learn, while still challenging them to get better each day.

About Jonathan

I have been a professional bassist for over 10 years. I specialize in upright bass, electric bass, and some keyboard. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Music from Northern Michigan University, and studied with bassists Richard Davis, David Friesen, David Ziegner, and violinist Barbara Rhyneer. I h

John is a very effective teacher. I took bass lessons and I have improved so much. John is an amazing teacher and I would recommend him to anyone looking to learn the bass guitar or upright bass.
Steve
Jonathan taught me when I was around middle school age and has left a lasting impression on how I approach the bass and music 10-ish years later. Under his tutelage I learned music theory, techniques, and all sorts of different genres and styles.

His lessons were always very professional. I always felt challenged, but not overwhelmed, by the material being taught. He also made it easy to be interested in the lessons; he would always ask if there's any song or genre that I wanted to learn and that sort of thing.

Overall, definitely a 5/5 top shelf educator and musician.

Hey there – I am so glad that you want to study bass! Upright bass is the cornerstone of my passion for music -- it is such a beautiful instrument and I love to help people find their unique personality on the bass. A little bit about me: I am a graduate of the world-renowned jazz program at the Jacobs School of Music and have been teaching for 8 years. I am well-versed in tried-and-true methods of establishing healthy technique, good tone, good time, and musicality on the bass. I have experience with many styles and genres and have been fortunate to play with artists from over 20 countries. My work has been featured in NPR’s Jazz Critic’s Poll, Jazziz Magazine, and All About Jazz, and I was recently chosen to be a cultural ambassador for the U.S. State Department’s global music fellowship (OneBeat). In other words, we can work together on whatever music really lights you up, no matter the style! Whether you are just beginning or are already advanced, there's so much we can do ...

About Hannah

I hold a degree in Jazz Studies from the Jacobs School of Music, where I focused especially on Afro-Cuban music, thanks to the tutelage of Latin Jazz giants Michael Spiro and Wayne Wallace! My jazz background also gave me rigorous training in music theory and history. My performance career is high

At first I was skeptical about taking online lessons, but I love taking lessons with Hannah. I'm a classical bassist starting to learn jazz, and Hannah is providing exactly what I was hoping for in starting my jazz career. The first lesson we went over what my goals are, and she is providing me with exactly the tools that I need to progress. Every week she sends me a personalized document of what we went over in lessons, what I should focus on in the coming week, and music resources (exercises, jazz charts, etc) to utilize! She is patient, kind, knowledgeable in both technique and theory, and pushes me every lesson.

I cannot believe how much I've learned in just 3 lessons with Hannah! She is an excellent teacher, patient, encouraging, and clear. She quickly assessed what I was looking for in upright bass lessons and the lessons are exactly what I was hoping for, and more. I'm so glad to have found Hannah.

Playing the upright bass can be a wonderfully fulfilling activity for all! No matter how old you are or how much time you have during a day, You can master this skill to the level of enjoyment!

Music is a movement, an emotion, an ingenious thought, and an extraordinary way of communication! And all those little details that it possess have been lightened in many different ways by the students I taught - that is what inspires me the most in the teaching process.

I also encourage my students to analyze and talk about the piece we play, or discuss anything they are interested in music in general. Along with that, music theory and ear training lessons can improve your musical performance and knowledge about music.

I am looking forward to enjoying playing and learning music together with you!

We would like to express our gratitude for all your kindness and time spent with our daughter. She made her first music steps with you and now she can get rid of the piano.
She enjoyed working with you while your teaching methods help her be able to play complex songs.
We recommend teacher Nevena without reservation to everyone who would passionately like to dive into music.

"Daniel is an outstanding musician. I have had the distinct pleasure of witness this both as an audience member at his performances and while performing with me in my jazz trio. Daniel has a deep understanding of both classical music as well as jazz, rock and anything between. And best of all, despite all his great achievements and talent, he comes across as modest person who gives you inspiration to live up to his standards. He has quickly become one of the most sought after bass player and instructor in this region. I highly recommend him.
