Viola perfomance and techniques

I am a string specialist. That means I teach and play violin, viola, cello, double bass, guitar, bass guitar, mandolin, ukulele and piano. I earned B.A. earned from the University of Northern Colorado, Greeley Colorado where I was a double major in classical guitar and double bass. In my senior year I was the recipient of the Annual Concerto Contest where I performed the "Concerto in A Major" on double bass with the University orchestra for the spring concert. I have played in both professional and semi-professional orchestras in Colorado and Arizona. I believe that any student will practice more if he or she likes the music they are playing. Periodically I will ask a student to give me a name of a piece of music that they would like to learn how to play. I notate it for them, often simplifying the rhythm and chords in Finale NotePad and give it to them free of charge. I teach students how to play music on their given instrument. Experienced teacher, teaching for 20 years at universities as well as beginner and intermediate students. Building a strong foundation and cultivating musical expression, I have successfully prepared students for auditions and helped them pursue their goals. Lessons are customized to the needs of each student. All ages and levels, professional or for fun are welcome!

I'm an experienced and dedicated musician, having played with Orchestras and Chamber groups throughout my state. My lessons are focused on relaxation, and am as laid back or strict as the student needs. Whether you're a beginner or advanced, shooting to be a church player or a pro, I have taught students for that and am the teacher for you.

The viola is a beautiful instrument, full of warmth and depth for those willing to explore it. Viola lessons include theory, technique, repertoire, and more. We'll work together to design a lesson plan that works for you and your learning style.

My training in viola comes from distinguished performers and educators in the classical music community. I have studied with Lawrence Dutton (of the Emerson String Quartet), and Nicholas Cords (of Brooklyn Rider), Karen Ritscher (of Manhattan School of Music), and Nancy Buck (of Arizona State University). My teachers have been taught by some of the most eminent string pedagogues of their generation, including Dorothy Delay, Karen Tuttle, Lilian Fuchs, Harvey Shapiro, and Heidi Castleman. This broad survey of teaching styles and philosophies gives me a great breadth of knowledge which I apply to each student.

I have been teaching for over a decade in many settings. These include: my own private studio, TakeLessons, music stores, and performing arts studios.
