Double Bass or Contra Bass

I have been the principal bassist of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra since 2017. I have been playing the bass for over 25 years and have been performing professionally for over 15. I bring a wide range of influences to my bass teaching and tailor the materials I use for each student's needs. I generally start students in method books from Simandl and Vance and move on to Rabbath, Petracchi, and various other materials that will help each student.

My name is Geoff and I play Double Bass).(also called.Upright Bass).I played in a Full Time Symphony Orchestra for 20yrs.I teach Solo work,NYSSMA pieces(expert),ALL Symphony Repertoire,Your School Music,Technical Studies,Scales and Sight Reading.I' m patient with students and changing lesson times if need be.Students do great at NYSSMA,All County and Long Island Strings,and all School Ensembles.Let's Go!

I teach fundamentals in the instrument and theory in numerous ways, that will fit the students needs. I am both classically trained (have studied with some of the top name solo bassists) and in jazz and improvisational music. I have a masters in music performance, and am equally trained in composition and harmony.

I teach through a traditional style where learning notation is paramount. Proper technique and finger placement will propel us into playing classical pieces and studies.

Upright Bass:
Also called Acoustic Bass, this instrument puts down the foundation in the band or orchestra. Besides learning the fretboard, notes, chords, finger exercises, theory and improvisation, the student will also learn how to play with a pick or their fingers and incorporate plucking, slapping, popping, and strumming techniques.
