I just finished a series of online upright bass lessons with Dr. Norman. It's wonderful to have a lesson without toting the bass around town. Dr. Norman is impressive in skill and knowledge. There was nothing musically he didn't know, couldn't explain, or demonstrate on the bass. He has a keyboard at hand to play chords or emphasize a particular key, and he is proficient on that too. Dr. Norman is A++.

Jonathan taught me when I was around middle school age and has left a lasting impression on how I approach the bass and music 10-ish years later. Under his tutelage I learned music theory, techniques, and all sorts of different genres and styles.

His lessons were always very professional. I always felt challenged, but not overwhelmed, by the material being taught. He also made it easy to be interested in the lessons; he would always ask if there's any song or genre that I wanted to learn and that sort of thing.

Overall, definitely a 5/5 top shelf educator and musician.

My number one priority is for you to have a great time playing upright bass. That means developing strong technique that makes playing easier, learning how to make practice fun and effective, and exploring the music that interests you most. I’ve been playing and loving bass for 20 years and am currently studying music education at the University of Maryland.

About Madison
I started playing bass through my school orchestra program at age 9, and I’ve adored classical music ever since. That’s my main focus, but I also dabble in rock, jazz, blues, and bluegrass, sometimes on other instruments (electric bass, guitar, violin, and cello). I was self-taught for many years, so I know how hard it is to make progress and how easily bad habits develop when you don’t have guidance. That’s why my methods are designed to make you into your own best teacher. I won’t just tell you what to do – I’ll train you to observe your own playing and use effective practice methods to overcome the challenges you encounter. So, even if you have to stop taking lessons, you will never have to stop learning. The better you get, the more fun you’ll have, and the more you’ll want to play!

I am a cellist, but as an orchestra teacher full-time I am able to implement and teach techniques for all stringed instruments. I am well-versed in double bass making me a lower strings expert. We will use a variety of supplementary books and will have fun in the process! (:

About Savana
Hello! I recently graduated in 2014 from Baylor University with a Cello Performance degree. I currently teach elementary orchestra (4th & 5th grade) in Dallas ISD. As well as teaching, I currently perform with the New TX Symphony Orchestra in Dallas and in my church orchestra on viola and cello.

We will learn a variety of pieces ranging from classical to contemporary/pop music while learning the techniques to play each string instrument! Can anyone say "Baby Shark" and "Despacito" fast enough? And I focus on music theory ---basic note and rhythm reading & writing and recognizing musical symbols.

I am also bilingual in Spanish ---fluent in reading/writing and basic in conversation (although I am continuously learning & improving my language skills!)
