I've been teaching cello for 30 years and my students have gone on to play with different ensembles like symphony orchestras. Within the first few lessons, you'll be able to play simple songs by reading and by ear and as time goes on you'll be able to play more complex repertoire. I specialize in classical, style but I can teach you different kinds of styles, typically use Kummer method and Suzuki repertoire but I use a variety of method and books. I have the following tools available for your lessons: cello, computer program, sound system, Tuner and Metronome . I love working with students of all ages and experience levels and I can't wait to meet you!
With more than 30 years of teaching experience for the cello, I have taught students of all ages, throughout California and overseas. I earned a Bachelor's degree and a Master's degree in Cello Performance and am currently the Principal cellist for the Camellia Symphony, California. In addition, I am teaching all levels of cello and beginner violin lessons to my students in Folsom, Napa and Sacramento.
My professional performing experience began in Medellin, Colombia in 1985 with the Medellin Philharmonic Orchestra where I was their Soloist beginning in 1992 and later on, as First Cello, from 1998-2002.
While in Colombia, I also performed with the Antioquia Symphonic Orchestra and the Antioquia Chamber Orchestra from 1991-1999.
I left my hometown of Medellin to come to the United States where I performed with the Texas Christi
an University Orchestra in Fort Worth, Texas in 2000. Returning to Medellin, I spent the next year with the Eafit Symphonic Orchestra.
Finally, I settled in Sacramento in 2003, coming here to earn my Master's Degree in Cello Performance while performing throughout the next year with the California State University, Sacramento Symphony.
In Sacramento, I have also performed with the Sacramento Metropolitan Orchestra and with several other chamber groups.
At this time, I am teaching all levels of cello and beginner violin. My students range in age from six to seventy years and enjoy learning in a relaxing environment at their own pace.
I incorporate several different teaching styles to meet each students' individual needs and abilities.
*** Specialties *** cello, violin Suzuki for kids and traditional classical style.
I took lessons from Maria for 6 years, starting the summer just before I entered high school. Initially I was embarrassed because I knew most kids learning an instrument had started years before me, and I hadn't had any experience with reading sheet music or anything like that.
But she never held any preconceived notions about where my ability *should* be, which helped me feel comfortable learning the cello for fun, which was why I was taking lessons. And Maria was always patient working with me on whatever little part of a piece I struggled with week after week until I got it. She let me self direct how I wanted to learn, so I didn't spend as much time memorizing music theory and was able to learn through playing, which worked well for me.
While taking lessons through high school and part of college, I had a lot of difficult classes and sometimes had to sacrifice my short-term cello progress to make time for them. I always felt bad when this happened, but Maria understood and once the air cleared I was always excited to catch up to where I wanted to be.
Cello was always something kind of meditative where I could make something beautiful by putting in time, and I don't think I would enjoy playing now if I hadn't had the warm guidance of such a great teacher on my journey through the music world.

I am a highly organized, outcome-driven and motivated professional musician and educator with solid experience in the classroom. For the past 25 years, I have been employed with Amati music academy and seven years on the faculty of University of St Francis. I am very comfortable with all aspects of the current music syllabus, including teaching musical concepts (such as duration, pitch, dynamics, tone color, texture and structure) as well as performance, composition. I am fully qualified, with a Bachelor of Education in Music, Double Masters in music performance and education from University of Nottingham. I am proficient in classical, jazz and Celtic fiddle violin and possess solid skills in piano (grade 8-13) Royal conservatory system. Throughout my teaching career, I have been driven to help students achieve their very best. I str
ongly believe that music has the power to change lives – to enhance the social, cultural and spiritual lives of people, and serve as a profound medium of personal expression. Professional perform experience: The Chicago, Natalie Cole, Smokey Robinson, Three tours with Moody Blues, YoYo Ma etc.... The most important thing I look for in a student is communication skills, as well as talent. I like to nurture students and help identify their individual strengths, which is a key factor in shaping a musical persona that will make its mark both on and offstage. I do not advocate a uniform technique for all students. Physical differences and learning styles are always taken into consideration. Potential is as important to me as early achievements and experience. My goal is to help students become self-sufficient, discriminating artists. I discuss practice techniques often and develop individualized scale routines. I encourage initiative and expressive musicality as well as precision. Above all, music needs to bring obvious joy to the student, regardless of the difficulties.”

I have 20 years of playing experience along with a Bachelor's degree in Cello Performance. I was the section leader of my university's orchestra as well as a full-scholarship member of the university quartet. As a professional gigging musician, I have played with Il Divo, Mario Winans, La Jolla Symphony, Doctor's Symphony, Porta Caeli Chamber Players, and the quartet La Dolce.
I am a member of MTAC (Music Teacher's Association of California) and can sign my students up for Certificate of Merit. This is a music study program with an annual evaluation and written assessment. Stand-out students will be invited to play at the Branch Recital.
*** Lesson Details *** Lessons differ slightly depending on the student. In general, it starts with scales for intonation or working on vibrato, moves on to an etude or exercise, and culminate
s with work on a piece of music. But not every student works well with this method, so I will add in some musical worksheets and ear training games for those that require lessons with more variety.
*** Travel Equipment *** I can come to your home to teach. I will bring all necessary method books and teaching materials.
Jessica is very knowledgeable and friendly. My daughter enjoyed her lesson with her.

Jessica has been working with my son for several years. She is an excellent teacher and a joy to work with. Jessica is always understanding and helpful with scheduling or technical issues. And she has helped my son expand his knowledge and appreciation for music, music theory, self discipline and perseverance. She regularly checks in with me to discuss next steps and areas of study. I consider Jessica a partner in my son's education and value the work she does.

Jessica was very patient, explaining the names & parts of the cello, how to hold the bow properly, draw the bow across the strings, and encouraged my 1st sounds. Glad I decided to jump in and try to learn something new as an adult.

ze. Sure, technique and posture are taught, but it is in a fun safe environment. I also teach that it is okay to make a mistake. There is no judgment in my class, and if you need more time or more help then that is what you get.
Michelle is an awesome teacher. My children 8 & 11 are taking Violin lessons with her and she has been amazing. She is very easy to work with and both my children are very comfortable with her, even my daughter who is very shy but Michelle finds a way to work with her. I was not sure about online lessons for young children but it has been a great experience.

I am a professional cellist with years of performing and teaching. I attended the Jacobs School of Music for my undergraduate and masters' degrees and was a graduate teaching assistant. I also received my Stott Pilates Teaching Certification while at IU and incorporate postural alignment into my teaching. I have Suzuki certification and work on a strong technical foundation, which both facilitates performing and frees us up to explore non-traditional techniques and other genres.
Most importantly, I strive to nurture the love and passion for music and cello and I am here to help you achieve your musical goals.
I teach cellists of all ages and abilities and tailor the lesson to the individual. Lessons include standard repertoire, and if requested, non-traditional styles as well. I have experience with solo repertoire, orchestra, chamber music, and folk music, and can help you develop your ear and even sing while playing. I have Suzuki certification and also focus on postural alignment (I have a Pilates teaching certification). I have traveled and performed extensively throughout North America, Europe, and Australia, and can help you perform well, have great stage presence, and deal with nerves and stage fright.
Maria was great. I am older; so it is more difficult for me to learn. She made it easy for me to understand. I would recommend her very highly. Thanks maria

I’ve just started taking italian classes with Maria and she’s very helpful! She is good at explaining things in a way that make sense to me. You can really tell that she has a passion for her language and culture. I definitely recommend her for italian lessons!
As a passionate cello player, I want my students to have fun but also really understand their instrument and the music they are playing! Students will learn their scales through the circle of fifths, shifting positions, vibrato techniques, music theory, and performing with an accompanist. They are expected to have fun but to work hard - it’s totally worth it!
I have been playing piano for 23 years and cello for 16 years. I love sharing music with others and seeing them grow to love music as well. I am currently a pianist for the KC Ballet’s ROAD program. I have a Bachelors of Music from Lindenwood University. I have been a piano accompanist for 7 years. I taught 5th grade Orchestra Club in the Fort Zumwalt School District and was a substitute teacher for Orchestra classes for 3 years. I have been teaching private lessons for 10 years.
Experienced professional cellist with degrees in music and music education strives to bring a solid foundation combined with the joy of music.
My passion is music and my greatest joy is sharing that passion. My teaching style is adapted to each student, customized lesson plans and curriculum designed to teach and challenge but also ensure the student is enjoying the experience by basing lessons on music in which the student is interested or related to their other interests and activities. I’ve been studying and performing since I was four years old and it’s always my great pleasure to share the love of music!
Jeanmarie helped me to learn the proper way to hold the cello and the bow. She watched carefully to be sure I maintained that throughout the lesson. I am pleased that she is going to be sure I learn to play the cello well to prevent injuries. She also gave me some very basic bowing and finger exercises to practice this first week so I begin to build correct muscle memory before I go on to working with sheet music.
Many beginning musicians wonder, “Is cello hard to learn?” The process of learning the cello is not difficult, but it’s important to keep in mind that the cello is not an instrument of instant gratification. It does require focused, daily practice time and a good teacher to guide you along the way.
How far you progress with cello is a direct result of the amount of quality time you put into practicing the instrument. Even someone who puts in just 30 minutes a day will notice a signi …
