Singing of all kinds begins with healthy vocal technique. Learning the correct warming up and use of the voice and breath is essential for a career in singing with any longevity. I use a combination of classical (bel canto) and contemporary styles of singing to bring out the best in each student's voice. We will work on breathing, range, voice blending, resonation, flexibility, projection and articulation, as well as interpretation and acting of the song!

About Wendy
I am a professional singer, songwriter and actor working in the Chicago area for many years. I have a B.F.A. in Theater/Voice from The University of Kansas and an M.A. in Interdisciplinary Arts from Columbia College Chicago. I've been teaching private vocal instruction since 2003: I host the Singer's Salon in Chicago, a unique and supportive venue for singer's to become more comfortable performing before an audience. I also instruct workshops for vocal technique and performance. For 10 years I was the lead singer for The Red Apples, an acoustic/electric roots band that performed an eclectic mix of rock, swing, blues, country and jazz. Within the past year I have re-energized my theater and cabaret career, appearing at Davenport's Cabaret, in a new solo show, as well as productions at Big Noise Theater and Stage 773. I've also completed tw
o short films and started working on my own web series, about my life as a singer/voice teacher. I also have an art song project consisting of original material with composer Jaroslaw Golembiowski. As a singer and actress I have performed with many major theaters in the Chicago area, including Court Theater, Victory Gardens, National Jewish Theater, Bailiwick Theater, and Prop Theater.

*** Lesson Details ***
As a classically trained singer I will instruct you in all aspects of singing technique, from breath control and support to improving your tone, range, flexibility and resonance. I have recently completed training in Somatic Voicework, The LoVetri Method, which has enriched my understanding of the mechanics and health of the voice, as well as applications of technique to CCM or contemporary musical styles of singing.
My familiarity with a variety of musical styles from pop/rock, R&B, and country, to musical theater, lounge and jazz makes me an ideal teacher for those interested in contemporary styles.

I have spent many years developing my own style of singing and instruction. I draw on my experiences and training not only in music, but theater and movement, (Linklater, Alexander Technique, Grotowski) to create a well rounded approach to singing and performing. As an instructor, I am most interested in helping students find their true voice and artistic style. I teach students to find expression through and with a foundation of technique, rather then in spite of it. I also am very interested in helping students deal with the mental/emotional aspects of performance, an all important area so frequently ignored by music teachers. My style is nurturing, yet disciplined, and sprinkled liberally with good-natured humor."

*** Studio Equipment ***
My studio space is fully equipped with a piano, P.A. system with microphones, CD, MP3 player for tracks, and ability to record lessons if the student desires.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Please have a piano (in tune!) or keyboard for use in your in home lessons.

*** Specialties ***
I am classically trained, but I am very adept at teaching music in a wide variety of styles, including most contemporary styles of music including pop/rock, roots, swing, jazz and blues, country, r&b, and of course musical theater and cabaret. My band performs an eclectic mix of originals and covers in the roots rock genre, and I write music as well. I have many years of experience in the theater as an actress, and I coach acting technique and performance. I coach singer/songwriters, and all types of singers, of all ages. I have a workshop that specializes in helping people learn to perform better in front of an audience, and I host the Singer's Salon in Chicago, which is a supportive opportunity to perform regularly! I also coach bands, to improve their vocals, harmonies, etc.

Before my first lesson, I was nervous having no singing experience and not knowing what to expect from lessons.

Wendy, helped me relax and move forward in the process of learning to sing. I also appreciated how she kept me on topic and focused on the task at hand.

My first impression is that she is an intelligent professional and I look forward to my next lesson.

Sincerely,

Anthony,

About Leandra

I started taking private voice lessons at 11 years old and I earned many honors and achievements for my singing. I went on to study at the Long Island High School for the Arts , then went to Berklee College of Music where I studied vocal performance. During my lessons I teach my students how to sing using breath support/control and be confident performers.

I started teaching music in 2010 and have loved it ever since. I have a kind and understanding approach when it comes to my way of teaching.

All I want for my students is to have fun and express themselves!

I have been a professional singer and teacher for many years. I help my students build their instrument and strengthen their voice. We also will take the time to find appropriate repertoire and characterization.

About Angela
I am a professional opera singer and voice instructor in New York City. I have an opera, musical theater, church and choral background. I am comfortable teaching all styles of music.

Our singing voice is the instrument that we were each born to play. My goal is to make singing effortless and enjoyable and to help my students build confidence in themselves by developing their instrument.

Together we will work on breathing, speaking and vocal exercises as well as appropriate repertoire singing with beautiful Italian vowels, free of tension and with emphasis on emotional purpose.

It would be my pleasure to work with my students on basic music theory. I can also help students prepare their voices for public speaking engagements.

She is incredibly patient and kind and has the keen ability to help reach her students in the unique way each one can understand and grasp. Through working with her, I find myself growing and stretching as a singer in ways I didn't think were possible for me. Hello potential student! I have been teaching voice for the past ten years and I am a professional opera singer, but I love teaching all different styles! I received my Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance/Vocal Pedagogy from the prestigious Peabody Institute in Baltimore, MD. I believe that anyone can learn how to sing, and I am very passionate about inspiring individuality and confidence in each of my students, no matter his/her skill level! In a half-hour lesson, we usually spend the first 15 minutes doing warmups and building technique with specific exercises that strengthen the voice, extend range, improve diction, etc. The second half of the lesson is spent applying that technique to a song. You can expect to learn all of the foundations of singing in a lesson, such as correct posture and breathing, diction, musicality, etc., as well as how to deal with stage fright, confidence issues, performance practice, and/or singing in different languages.

About Erica
Hello future students, parents and/or guardians! Thank you for taking a moment to read my profile. I have been teaching voice/piano for ten years and counting! I am a professional opera singer and a graduate of the prestigious Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore, MD, where I received my Master of Music in Vocal Performance/Vocal Pedagogy. I have performed at Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center, and have sung with many different companies around the United States including Seattle Opera, Tacoma Opera, Utah Festival Opera, and Maryland Lyric Opera, to name a few. Even though I am a classically-trained singer, I love working on various different styles with my students. And speaking of students, some have gone on to compete and win in voice/piano competitions, talent shows, and even audition for The Voice! What ever you or your child
's musical goals are, I will strive to do my best in helping you or your child attain them (and more). If you'd like to learn more about me or my studio, please visit my website, converystudios.com for more information!
