Being a violin and viola teacher for the past 25 years, I love imparting to my students the how-to of tone production, and can teach from beginner all the way to auditions. My teaching experience covers over 3 decades. Your tuition includes participation in my monthlyu master class Saturday mornings. If you are online, you may Skype in and perform or observe. I am of a direct teaching lineage to the legendary Clara Schumann. My students have won competitions. Have a teaching channel on-line, that shows the proof of my work. If you follow my micro-management and practice directions, you will succeed with your goals!!
I am a career musician, and conservatory trained violin, piano and vocal instructor with over 40 years teaching experience, and a resume spanning many pages. I also am a well endorsed composer and public speaker. Furthermore, I LOVE teaching! I am a competition judge, member of National Music Teachers Association, and Suzuki Association of the Americas. I have proven results, as documented on my students YouTube channel. With my instruction, you will learn quickly and most importantly, correctly, saving you time and resources as you reach your musical goals. Fact: One of the only activities that activates, stimulates, and uses the entire brain is music, so let's get started!
Some people have difficulty reaching a teachers' studio. For this reason, I have perfected my ability to teach via Skype or FaceTime. It is an advantage f
or my students to be instructed by a quality teacher. It's worth a try, isn't it?
Please note: I only accept weekly lesson students. Also, due to my performances, I'm not always able to this calendar up to date....so when you request a lesson time, allow me to communicate with you, if we need to adjust it a bit. It almost always works out if you don't mind doing that.
*** Lesson Details *** All the students on my Student YouTube channel who have studied under three years, are practicing 2 hours a week, and you will have a similar result. That's 20 minutes a day, 6 days a week. Students under 5 practice about 5-10 minutes a day.
Please have an assignment book that lies flat, and keep it next to your music books as you practice between lessons. My instructions are very detailed to insure your best progress.
Studio Equipment For on-line lessons, you will need a quiet place, and please test your sound and video prior to beginning of lesson. For students under 13 or so, do have a parent or caregiver taking notes while we work together.
Specialties I have much experience with various learning styles, and in fact, am featured in a documentary made of one of my autistic students.
Stephanie is one of the best teachers you can possibly find through Takelessons. We are extremely fortunate to have found her. She is a successful professional musician who is very strict yet with a kind heart and skills/experiences to steer students through their learning limitations. I had trouble to make my older daughter to practice piano for years, and almost came to the point to have her given up learning. Stephanie changed everything. Now my older daughter is getting not only serious with piano but practicing harder then ever. I am so happy to see the results. Highly recommend her!!!

Stephanie is s fantastic teacher! My daughter has thrived and grown like never before. When she wants to push her she expresses complete confidence. This builds my daughters confidence and she flourishes! She is in love again with piano! We drive an hour every week and it is worth it. If you are looking for an experienced teacher who loves to teach Stephanie is the one to go to.

Jonathan is a great teacher! I had my very first violin lesson with him, and he made me feel like I can actually learn how to play this instrument.
Charles is very professional, kind and friendly. My 9 year old is trying to learn Bohemian Rhapsody on his viola for a talent show and Charles has been very helpful, guiding him through the music with positive reinforcement. We tried a couple other instructors but it wasn't the right fit. Super pleased we found Charles. Look forward to many more lessons to come.

We have tried a few instructors for strings and they were not the right fit for us. We finally struck GOLD with Charles! Very professional, not at all condescending with his feedback (this was our problem with a couple others), taught my son things he has not learned in school in terms of correct form/placement of viola, and bow technique. We are very excited for the next lesson!

Mrs. Hammonds is such a wonderful teacher! I came to her when I just started high school and was overwhelmed with joy when I found such a great teacher. Focusing on memorization, technique, and working on a solid foundation even after playing for 10 years prior, really reflected in my playing. I think she was the teacher who really showed me why I wanted to play violin and set my foundation up to improve more and more even today!

As an adult student that let my violin sit idle for too many years, Hollis was able to help me regain some basics skills and build upon them to re-learn different playing styles. Her approach was refreshing and focused on helping me re-learn some classical pieces that were familiar to my background. In addition, she introduced some jazz and fiddle pieces that I was interested in branching out with and worked with me to fine tune bowing techniques for each style.
I would highly recommend Hollis as an instructor for anyone starting out or looking to improve upon existing skills!
Inspiration, fun approach to learning quickly: how to practice, specific assignments to get the most out of your practice time. Customized assignments to include the music you enjoy. Very advanced and thorough and in depth knowledge of the concepts of the most efficient technique on the instrument in both hands.
With over 30 years experience as a professional classical musician -performer and teacher of violin and viola, I am very confident in my knowledge in how to teach all ages and levels! All my former students have achieved their goals and more! Just last year my graduating senior was accepted to both Curtis and Juilliard, and a former student was accepted into the Pittsburg Symphony. All my students have gone onto either prestigious conservatories or the university of their choice. Many are also in orchestra in the States, Europe and Tawain. As a teacher, I truly enjoy getting to know each individual student and customizing my knowledge to fit their needs, their choice of music, their goals and at their pace. I specialize in teaching what to practice and HOW to practice in the least amount of time necessary, and I do my utmost to inspire t
Hello! I am so excited to work with you and help you improve as a violist! I have been teaching private lessons, orchestra classes, and tutoring in music for over 5 years. I recently graduated with my Bachelor's in Music Education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and I have taught string players at all ages and abilities, from beginners to advanced players. I would be honored to help you achieve your goals, whether you are unpacking your viola for the first time, wanting to learn any classical/pop/rock/folk piece, or preparing for an audition. I have experience from playing in masterclasses, auditions, gigs, playing in different orchestras, and even learning to play my instrument without having a teacher to guide me when I was first starting out. Best wishes, and see you soon!
Hi! My name is Dixie and I have played the violin/viola for 12 years. I have been teaching music lessons/classes for over 5 years, and I have also taught beginning to intermediate orchestra classes over the course of my undergraduate studies. My goal is to enable students to feel confident in expressing themselves though music, while polishing their technical skills and expressing their emotions through the powerful musical language. I have taught violinists and violists in individual/private and group settings over the past four years I have been at New England Conservatory. I have a Bachelors degree in Viola Performance, and have had 18 years of education on both violin and viola, in solo, orchestral, and chamber music settings (my favorite!). My hope for all musicians is that we cultivate the drive and ability to share our gift with others!

I began studying the violin and viola using the Suzuki method when I was just three years old. Since then, I have played with several professional, semi-professional, and youth orchestras and chamber ensembles. With my quartets Lumière, Vox, and Highland Stre
et, I have won first prizes in several competitions including the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition and competitions hosted by: Merit School of Music, Society of American Musicians, Midwest Young Artists, Rembrandt Chamber Players, and more. I was also featured in string quartets that performed for at the White House and the Kennedy Center. As a soloist, I have performed with the Oistrach Symphony Orchestra (DePaul University) , been featured on NPR's "From the Top", and performed with the Sphinx Symphony Orchestra as a laureate of their 17th and 18th competitions.
Recently, I have expanded on my teaching experience with short tours and residencies in Banff, AB, Canada, Napa Valley, CA, several cities in Brazil, and Boston, MA. I got to learn from the great and I aim to parley my experience to others looking to learn!
"As a former professional musician with an undergrad in Music, my standards are pretty high when I'm selecting musicians to teach my kids. My son has been
taking viola lessons with Regina for 2.5 years. She is professional but also down-to-earth and great to work with. My son, now an 8th grader, played a level 1 solo at the District and State ISSMA contests and earned a Gold at both levels--the only kid in his school to do so. We credit Regina for appropriately pushing him to be his best. You can be assured that when you choose Regina, you're choosing one of the very best teachers around."
"It was our first lesson with Charles for my 9 year old son. We finally found the right instructor! Without being condescending, he taught my son some ba
sics about holding the instrument correctly, how to bring it up for play.... essentially proper playing etiquette that he is not getting at school from a teacher who is far too stretched with a large class of multiple instruments and only ONE teacher. (She really needs an assistant) I think he is going to learn a LOT and I love that he corrects him without being rude nor condescending. I would give him 5 stars but it's our first lesson. Will review again after a month and hopefully gloat some more about him! :) ~ Very pleased!"
"Susanna is an amazing string teacher! With a master's degree from Carnegie Mellon in viola performance and 20 years of teaching in public schools, Susann
a is an expert teacher and player. She is great with both children and adults, and she is in a great location. I highly recommend Susanna as both a viola and violin teacher."

"Andrew is an extremely knowledgeable and talented teacher. He explains technique exceptionally well, has an impressive understanding of phrasing and music
ality while playing, and is very patient and understanding, he has a great sense of humor, while also giving students the right amount of push they need. He has high expectations but they are always attainable for his students, and he is very flexible with each students unique needs. I highly recommend him as an instructor, he is worth every penny and students always see quick and impressive improvement; I know I did while I studied with him."
"Very enthusiastic and helpful. Encouraging and engaging."
"I love it!"
"My 12 year-old daugher has been practicing viola with Jill for 7 months now. From day 1, I have been impressed by Jill's teaching style that is rigorous,
but also flexible and supportive. In just a few lessons, my daughter's music playing deepened. The most important to me was to see and hear my daughter starts to breath, feel and enjoy her music. I believe that now my daughter is not playing for me but more for herself. I am extremely thankful to Jill and recommend her highly as a violin and viola instructor. I believe her instruction will have a lifelong impact on my daughter. On top of things, my daughter and I enjoy our time during her lessons very much."
"Kendra is amazing! She's perfect at finding problems and helping the student to resolve them while challenging to be better and better."
