I have been teaching piano lessons for 10+ years and have a passion for studying the greats who came before me. As an instructor, it is my job to guide students and supply them with the requisite literature at the appropriate stage of development. A student of the piano is foremost a student of music; and a general familiarity with the works of the masters, e.g. Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, is essential.

It is important to me that my students develop a strong foundation as this is necessary for growth in ones ability to play well. During the lesson, a student can anticipate a focus on technique and listening skills while learning to play great music.

I offer one-hour piano lessons once or twice weekly, either in person or virtually. Students are expected to practice daily for a minimum amount of time that is determined. Depending on the age of the student, half hour lessons may be considered and you are welcome to reach out to me to discuss.

I enjoy finding the right balance of foundational curriculum with the interests and goals of the student. Other than learning how to read music notation with piano through repertoire, other things I incorporate are composition, improvisation, ear training, music theory, music history, fun creative projects, and other aspects when necessary.

Learning about each student in detail is important for me to tailor my curriculum for them to grow and learn to the best of their ability. I am not strictly classical, I enjoy teaching many genres of music.

With a master's in Piano pedagogy, I am versed in many teaching methods, group, private, semi-private, and I have taught music theory including AP Music Theory prep. I can teach piano from no experience to college-level entrance to Music Program.

I structure my lessons so students learn what they want to learn, while also building a strong foundation in sight reading, technique and music theory. While learning classical piano typically calls for reading sheet music, I may take non-traditional methods for classical music such as learning by ear or with chords depending on the student's needs.

"Ms. Alty is a very patient yet thorough piano teacher. Since we left our hometown for Houston, it's been really difficult getting a piano teacher that matches the same talent as our previous teacher. We had gone through 4 teachers in Houston. However finding Ms. Alty was like finding a rare gem at the top of the mountain.
She is very knowledgeable and has the skills to get a child to listen and actually want to practice. My children have improved tremendously and actually started playing more complicated musical piece.
My children love Ms. Alty and always look forward to having their piano class. I would recommend Ms. Alty if you're looking for a very musically knowledgeable and talented piano teacher who is both firm and gentle when teaching,"
