It is my foremost belief as a teacher that my students are truly capable of anything they set their mind to. I teach with positive reinforcement and never judgement to create a warm and comfortable environment that fosters and nurtures potential! I see teaching as more than teaching a person to learn the cello, but as an opportunity to accompany students on their journey towards embracing who they are, creating meaningful art, and connecting to the world through music.
No matter the age or prior experience of the student, you can expect a heavy focus on establishing a firm foundation of cello technique. Without this foundation, the student can only progress so much. With the foundation set and solid, the possibilities are endless! I teach tension-free cello playing. There should never be pain or discomfort anywhere in the body which is why I have such a large focus on establishing proper technique.
Ultimately, it takes courage to put effort towards learning an instrument and I ...

I provide a fun experience of learning to play and share music. My philosophy in working with students is to curb their interests with my vision for their success with technique and musicality. I want my student to not only become good cellist, but also enjoy music on a theoretical and historical level. My overall goal is to make a connection with people that will last and music can be an outlet for growing as a person.
About Carrie
Carrie recently relocated back to Davis California from Ann Arbor Michigan where she freelanced and taught cello at schools and in her private studio. After finishing her masters at Florida State University, she has performed with the Jackson Symphony, South West Symphony Orchestra, and West Sympho

I've been teaching cello for more than 3 years and work with students of all ages and levels. In your first month of playing, you'll learn proper instrument posture, instrument parts, note names, how to read Bass Clef and how to play beginning tunes. Once your notes are learned, we'll introduce your bow. From there, things really take off! Each lesson you can expect to work on a scale, an etude (technique exercise) and at least one piece or song.

I have over 6 years of experience teaching private lessons in addition to teaching seminars on songwriting and music business at Infinity Visual and Performing Arts and SUNY JCC.
I teach both online and in-person lessons at my studio in Nashville and offer 30 and 60 minute lessons.
I have played over 1,000 shows, both solo and as an auxiliary musician for other touring acts. I performed on over 30 albums and have composed for radio, television, and internet video series, including sharing the stage with members of the 10,000 Maniacs. I've been featured in The New York Times, on the CBS Evening News, and on NPR.
While each student is different, I do generally start everyone on either Suzuki or the Essential Elements books.
As one of my old teachers said, “I'm not teaching you how to play cello, I'm teaching you how to teach yourself how to play cello.” This is something I strive for. Students will not only learn technical skills( how to play their instrument, read ...

Cello is famous for its deep and warm sound, probably the widest range from low to high register. It is used for solo, chamber music, ensembles, chamber and symphony orchestras.
But the most important cello can change your mind and fulfill your soul like no other instruments !

In my teaching, I focus on developing strong technical foundation, which is crucial to develop at a very early stage for a future success, and nurturing students’ creativity and natural musical talents. As an active concert musican, I understand challenges that students may face in learning cello and how inspiring can be a productive practicing! I don't teach how to play and be dependant on a teacher, but rather how to analyze and enhance your practicing patterns, listen to yourself, think, be creative and independant: everything that encompasses joy of playing music
I help my students to build up their resume for university applications: audition to honor orchestras, win competitions, pass CM and RCM tests. My students successfully compete at International and National competitions and are members of different orchestras including Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra, All Southern California Elementary Honor, San Juan Capistrano and Irvine Honor Orchestras, Orange County Youth ...

Pursuing a career in music is a risky decision, because by the nature of the industry few artists can “make it big.” Most artists aren’t pop stars, or even full-time career musicians, and all musicians also teach to remedy this. There are many paths to becoming a professional cello player, and depending on where you start it might be easy or hard to earn a reputation and start making money. I followed an academic path, studying classical music at university and then continuing my research …
