My name is Ruthie and I graduated from the University of Northern Colorado in May of 2007 with a Bachelors of Music Education degree with an emphasis in voice. Through my collegiate experiences, I had the privilege of participating in a Concert Choir, Barbershop/A Capella Ensembles, Vocal Jazz Ensembles and Performance in Solo Voice. The jazz program at UNC is one of the finest in the United States, and to be selected as a member of one of the vocal jazz ensembles was an honor in itself. From these experiences I have gained knowledge about the importance of vocal performance and music advocacy. I accepted a position as a general music teacher in Colorado in the fall of 2007 and then worked part time for a school in Laguna Niguel, CA until June of 2012. I recently moved from California to Minnesota and am trying to get my music student cli
entele established. I love to sing all different styles and I'd love to help you find your style and help discover your passions.

My passion for music started for me as a young child. I grew up in a musically inclined family, and was inspired and motivated by family members to use my gifts and talents to educate students about the world of music. My immense love for children, coupled with my educational experiences and my passion for music qualify me as a fun and exciting teacher.

I am huge lover of Barbershop/Sweet Adeline music and I recently competed in the International Young Women in Harmony Quartet Contest in Nashville, TN. My quartet, Vogue, won the competition. The Young Women in Harmony contest is for girls 25 years old and younger. I recently sang with a quartet called, Dolce. We competed in two International Competitions in Denver and Hawaii and placed 10th and 15th in the world. I was also a member of the International Gold Medalist Chorus, Harborlites, which is comprised of 180 female singers.

*** Lesson Details ***
My lessons will be educational and fun. I want to find your passions and interests and from there I will create lesson plans to enhance your learning experience in your specified concentration. Voice lessons will start with vocal warm ups and exercises and then we will proceed to work on vocal techniques and preferred repertoire. During the lessons we will create goals and work on those goals so you become a successful musician.

I am a very patient and caring teacher and I am able to create the lessons to your style and needs. Music is fun and I want to make it that way for you!

About Glenn
I have been active in the entertainment industry since the age of 12, when I gave my first professional performance. Prior to that I was already being introduced to music with years of guitar, and then vocal instruction. I do not remember a time of my life when I was not singing somewhere; in the house, in the yard, in the classroom. That is perhaps why I identify so well with the young people who gather so much enjoyment from "just singing" at every opportunity. I studied professionally for over 10 years with renown soprano and voice teacher Sylvia Jensen, who was instrumental in the enhancement of my vocal knowledge and technique. She is now the Director of Education for the Miss Ohio pageants of the Miss America competitions, elevating many young ladies to the national spotlight. At age 14, I auditioned for, and was added to cast of a
network television variety program, "The Gene Carroll Show", that was a television institution for over 30 years in the Midwest. I was a featured performer on that program for over 7 years, all the while perfecting the art of "playing to a camera." This experience was invaluable, and the knowledge I gathered is now included in my curriculum. I also began performing a solo act in the nightclub circuit at the age of 15, performing up and down the "north coast" from Cleveland, OH, (my home), to Erie. PA. At a very young age, I learned the difficult art of choosing musical material and pacing a show; also adapting to performing under a myriad of conditions with a vast array of musical accompaniment. After graduating college with a degree in Business Administration and Marketing, I assembled my own band, and took to the road. That experience eventually brought the act to Las Vegas in 1982. Over the years my show has been a staple in major casino cabarets in Las Vegas, and all over Nevada. Since my first engagement at The Landmark Hotel in the early 1980's, I have literally been up and down the famed Las Vegas Strip many times over. The Desert Inn, The Dunes, The Stardust, The Maxim, The Tropicana, New York New York, Mandalay Bay, MGM, Bally's, The Flamingo, The Imperial Palace, The Four Queens, The Golden Nugget, The Fremont, The Venetian, The Palazzo, and a three year engagement at The Riviera. My show is truly comprised of musical variety; classics, show tunes, jazz, rock, blues, r&b, country. Even a presentation of "Music of the Night" from Phantom of the Opera, that I perform in full costume. It is this ability to successfully deliver an extensive repertoire that I am enthusiastic about passing along to the next generation of entertainers.

I have been truly blessed in my career to have experienced so many highlights; too many to document. From winning an understudy roll in the Broadway Musical "Platinum" starring Hollywood actress Alexis Smith, to performing our National Anthem at events ranging from Major League Baseball to ESPN Boxing to receptions for major dignitaries, to recording 7 albums and a full-length video, to being asked to perform for Mr. Frank Sinatra at the Frank Sinatra Celebrity Golf Tournament, I have lived a full life on stage, learning and absorbing every bit of knowledge gathered along the way.
Now it is my desire to escalate my status as an educator to a more "one on one" experience; availing myself the opportunity to pass along that wealth of knowledge to individual students who aspire to enjoy the entertainment profession as I have, providing them with the skills needed to successfully compete. Or, should it be their choice not to pursue entertainment as a vocation, to gain a working understanding of all facets of their instrument so as to gain a better appreciation of music. Whatever the goal of the student, I feel that I am equipped to provide them with the tools needed to achieve that goal.

*** Lesson Details ***
Content of Sessions

Generally, the first 10-15 minutes of each lesson will be focused on vocal warm up and exercise. (For guitar students, we will review the previous
week's assignment). For Vocal Students, it is understood that the voice mechanism is made up of muscles, and as an athlete prepares for a sporting event, a singer must prepare to vocalize. It is at this time in our lesson when the student will develop good habits of voice maintenance, which will serve them well throughout their careers. The proper care and preservation of the vocal unit cannot be stressed enough, especially for pubescent and pre-pubescent students. Vocal chords in a developmental stage are most susceptible to damage, and because they are particularly sensitive, they must be handled with care. Our warm up regimen is designed to strengthen as well as preserve the singing voice.

I am not an advocate of getting too involved and "bogged down" in the technical aspects of singing, especially with the young students, and
especially early in our program. This is not to say that breath control, tonality, pitch, etc. are not vital to good singing, because these workings are ESSENTIAL, and their application will certainly be incorporated into our studies. Some instructors, on occasion, have a tendency to lose sight of the fact that much to do with singing happens "naturally", and too much focus on the "technical" can actually be inhibiting. This can alter a beautiful, natural tone into one that is unnatural and contrived.

I adhere to the philosophy that above all else, SINGERS WANT TO SING SONGS, and musicians-in-training want to play music. That is our focus, and all of our training is conceived with that objective in mind. All the technical knowledge and coaching serves no purpose without practical application. It is my belief that the most significant progress occurs when a vocalist is singing a song.

Nearly every element of instruction can be utilized in the performance of one song. This is why the majority of our session time will be spent "in song". For the very young student, we will concentrate our efforts with the students choices of favorite and familiar songs. The older students will undoubtedly have favorite songs, styles and artists. Special attention will be paid to the genre most enjoyed by the student, but diversity will be emphasized as well, and a variety of genres will be unpacked and explored. I believe that whatever a student's musical goals and aspirations, it is in their best interest to gain knowledge and insight in all facets of music, singing, and performance.

The most vital pre-requisite for any student is their enthusiasm. My ambition will be to harness that enthusiasm and channel it productively through stimulating instruction. Our sessions will be informative and educational, but always predicated upon "having fun with music".

I am proud to feature a curriculum that emphasizes the entertainment aspect of singing as well as the technical; created to benefit all ages and experience levels, from beginner to seasoned professional. After just weeks of my "Triple Threat Training" a student will begin to see astounding results: vocally, musically, and in the art of performance. I am excited to share my knowledge with you. Let's get started!

*** Studio Equipment ***
My studio is equipped with a full vocal sound system with microphones that I utilize to teach the valuable art of mic technique. Young students enjoy using the mics and hearing themselves sing and perform. Since our lessons are predicated on enjoying the art of singing, this opportunity has proven invaluable. For the advanced performer, studying all aspects of amplification and what a singer should know about their stage sound is a part of our educational curriculum. My studio is furnished with the equipment that is essential to mastering that knowledge.
Since the practical aspect of my course is based on singing songs, I provide all the latest technology required to allow my students the opportunity to sing the songs of their choosing, with and without the lead vocal tracks. I feel that when students are singing their favorite songs, it offers me the greatest teaching opportunities. I make certain the every musical genre can be represented, and feel I have the knowledge and ability to guide the student is whatever their musical tastes. My studio is also equipped with piano (for vocal exercises), and guitars, which gives me opportunity to accompany my students when the musical moment is appropriate. Be assured that all the technology I need to fulfill the educational needs of my students is but a step away!!

Glenn is a fantastic instructor. I was a beginner to acting, but I've really wanted to learn more about the craft for a long time. Glenn broke down the fundamentals of reading, character development, and script analysis to help make a more believable performance. Now we're getting into blocking and developing the physical aspects of a character. I'm learning a great deal and Glenn's patience and encouragement make him the ideal instructor to learn and grow. Highly recommend!

I was very pleased with Glenn and the help he gave myself and two other co-workers on the presentation we have to make this week at our conference. Glenn quickly picked up on what our outcome was and coached us in that direction. Many valuable tips and ideas for input was extremely helpful. Mezzo-soprano Rachel A. has captured audiences throughout the United States with her rich and warm timbre, beautiful blend, and dynamic stage presence. A native of Stockton, California, Rachel was born into a musical family and quickly developed an affinity for the performing arts. She first fell in love with classical music as an oboist and gradually found her niche as a singer through her passion for languages, literature, and theater. In the fall of 2012, she relocated to Connecticut where she continues to be an active performer of opera, oratorio, art song, crossover, and new music.

Most recently, she was seen as the mezzo-soprano soloist in Capella Cantorum Masterwork Chorus and the Old Lyme Congregational Church Choir's performances of Handel's Messiah, the mezzo soloisit in Vivaldi's Gloria and Magnificat with the Stamford Chora
le, with Hartford Opera Theater as Elise in Dawn Sonntag's Verlorene Heimat, Pythia in Nkeiru Okeye’s We’ve Got Our Eye on You, and as Miss Paige in Dan Shore’s An Embarrassing Position which was nominated for Best Featured Ensemble in a Musical through the 2015 Broadway World Connecticut Awards. She has also performed with Opera Theater of Connecticut, Connecticut Lyric Opera, Madison Lyric Stage, Greater Worcester Opera, Revolution Opera Alliance, the Simsbury Light Opera Company, and the Greater Meriden Concert Chorale.

Prior to moving to Connecticut, Rachel lived in St. Louis, Missouri, where she frequently performed with the St. Louis Symphony as a member of the St. Louis Symphony Chorus. She has also performed with Winter Opera St. Louis, Union Avenue Opera, and the Southern Illinois Music Festival. In 2012, Ms. Abrams had the opportunity to be a sponsored young artist with Winter Opera St. Louis where she performed the role of Echo in Ariadne auf Naxos, covered Musetta in La Bohème, and performed in the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical review: A Grand Night for Singing. Ms. Abrams has also performed with Opera Fort Collins, Loveland Opera Theater, Victorian Lyric Opera, and Opera Classica Europa in Bad Schwalbach, Germany as an apprentice artist. Additional operatic credits include Zweite Dame in Die Zauberflöte, Giannetta in L’Elisir d’Amore and Miss Pinkerton in The Old Maid and the Theif.

A passionate performer of Jewish music, Ms. Abrams was featured as a soloist in Martin Bresnick’s puppet opera, Der Signál, with the Hartford Independent Chamber Orchestra during the 10th Annual Celebration of Jewish Arts and Culture at Charter Oak Cultural Center in October of 2014. As an active performer of art song, Ms. Abrams has collaborated with various musicians throughout the New England region to create diverse and accessible art song recitals. In April of 2015, Ms. Abrams and pianist Michael Korman presented a recital featuring the works of Schönberg, Ruth Schönthal, Previn, and Weill with the Maurice Greenberg Center for Jewish Studies at the University of Hartford.

Since the winter of 2016, Rachel has been an active performer with Lollipop Opera Outreach. This touring opera company brings the joy of opera to thousands of school children throughout New England. This season, she will perform the roles of the Mother/Witch in Hansel and Gretel, Babe in The Three Pigs – A Pig Tale, and participate in the premiere of a new interactive “culinary” opera adventure: A Fairytale Kitchen.

In addition to being a passionate performer and collaborator, Rachel is a private music educator dedicated to the success of her students. Ms. A maintains a private studio of voice students out of her home in West Hartford, Connecticut. In addition to her private teaching studio, she is the alto section leader at St. James Episcopal Church in Farmington. She has also taught at Farmington Valley Academy Montessori in Avon, Arts Place in Cheshire and Summit Studios in Manchester.

As a voice teacher, Ms. A provides her students with a holistic, healthy, and age appropriate technique based on her studies of vocal pedagogy, years of lessons from master teachers, and her personal experiences as a performer. Through personalized vocal exercises and repertoire assignments, students will learn how to achieve a proper vocal onset, management of air pressure, increase vocal stamina, and maximize vocal freedom through balanced resonance. While Ms. Abrams teaches "classical" technique, her students apply her pedagogy to all styles of singing including, but certainly not limited to: musical theater, jazz, gospel, barber shop, and even rock!

Before opening her own private studio in Connecticut, Ms. Abrams lived in St. Louis, Missouri where she taught throughout the region. While in Missouri, she served as an Adjunct Voice Instructor/Lecture Professor at East Central College and a Private Voice and Music Instructor at St. John's School of the Arts.

In addition to her teaching experience in the Missouri area, Rachel was a Graduate Teaching Assistant at the University of Northern Colorado, where she was an assistant instructor for Music Survey and Music and World Cultures classes.

Ms. A holds a Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance from the University of Northern Colorado and a Bachelor of Music degree from San José State University. She lives in West Hartford with her husband Ben and their anti-social diva cat, Bonnie. She is currently accepting new students!

I am a Musical Director who has scored original music for many motion pictures and television and was musical arranger for the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. I've scored and arranged original music for several television shows including, Desperate Housewives, MTV's Making the Band, It's Showtime at the Apollo and numerous series on PBS, A & E and Disney, . I have also served as on-set vocal and piano coach for many Disney TV series.

As a piano instructor, I believe in giving every student a foundation in classical music.. I enjoy teaching and playing Jazz and pop as well.

My students see progress. I don't believe in cookie-cutter instruction. I take the time to learn a students individual comprehension of the musical language and their learning style. I also build a practice schedule that is realistic and creates growth. Music instruction should not feel like a burden, but should be joyful. It's a process I have respected. Whether you are 90 or 9, you can learn music, love music and feel its presence by playing an instrument or singing. My job is to communicate that joy and show you how you can do it for yourself.

I thought as a theatre teacher that I didn't have much more to learn. I was wrong. Vandi has given me the confidence to sing. I hid in the altos for years and she helped me find the wider range I was seeking. She includes great visualizations in her lessons which helps a visual learner like me. My teaching philosophy is that the journey to reach the height of technique and professionalism is how the student discovers themselves and their unique voice. I provide the student with the information necessary to guide them along the way. Singing is very personal and students who learn to sing tend to become very vulnerable during the process. Therefore, I believe in creating a safe and enthusiastic environment for my students to explore their creative selves. Enabling a singer to access their inner expression allows them to grow as a singer/artist and a person.

Excellent instructor for my 8 year old son. Nani is very encouraging and assigns tasks and activities that keeps him engaged and interested in learning and playing more. She is very knowledgeable and will design the appropriate lesson plan based on your or your child's abilities.

I absolutely recommend Nani and will definitely take her lessons again! I was working on a demo for the 2016 Chinese Voice competition so I figured to get some professional help. Nani turned out to be the perfect teacher for this! She is a professional opera singer and very passionate about singing. She is very friendly and has a great sense of humor. Her teaching methodology is very scientific, and she taught me techniques that I can apply immediately, and I was able to solve the two biggest struggles in singing after 2 lessons with her. I'm looking forward to improve my singing by taking more Nani's lessons in the future! =D

About Tegan
I am a professional voice coach that specializes in classical music and vocal performance. As student, I was coached by some of Chicago’s best known voice teachers. As my passion for music grew, I started writing music and recording in my home studio as well as appearing as lead roles in musicals and talent shows. I have spent the last 3 years teaching students of all ages at a well known Orlando music studio. Before that, I frequently taught master classes at private Christian colleges.
In addition to being a voice teacher, I am a preschool teacher, so I am well educated and trained in working with children young and old.

My ultimate goal is to make music fun and enjoyable while still striving for greatness in every student.

I am 15 years old and I wanted to learn opera singing. I can now sing opera pretty good, but I’m still learning. Tegan helps me to improve areas of my voice that are difficult for me to master on my own. She is always very positive when teaching and I love that about her.

I wanted to learn to sing songs from my favorite pop artists. Tegan taught me techniques to to sing like Adele. Before I came to her I didn’t know how to belt, now I do it all the time!

I needed a vocal instructor to help prepare my voice for upcoming auditions for my senior musical. Tegan was very helpful and gave me lots of pointers. I successfully landed lead roles in the musical and was able to compete in state wide competitions for voice. I could not have done it without the help of my voice teacher, Tegan.

About Stephanie
Stephanie, a native of Miami, Florida began her musical studies at New World School of the Arts in South Florida, earned her Bachelor of Music degree from University of Florida, and obtained her Master of Music in Vocal Performance from the University of Miami.

As teacher, Stephanie has taught all ages in music. She was a music teacher at a private elementary school in Miami and a professor at Barry University in Miami Shores. Stephanie also specializes in helping in competition training, helping many students place in the top music schools.

As a performer, Stephanie Newman performs in opera and concert performances across the United States. This season, Stephanie debuted with the Klezmer Orchestra singing Hodel in their production of Fiddler on the Roof, was a soloist at Barry University in Rossini’s Stabat Mater, and will be perfor
ming the title role of Hansel in Hansel and Gretel at Quisisana on Lake Kezar in Maine all summer.
Featured roles in past seasons have included the Miami Summer Music festival, where she participated in the Wagner Institute concert, and as Elizabeth Proctor in the new opera production of The Crucible. The Palm Beach Arts Paper noted that she “sang impressively, handling the music with confidence and flair.” She also sang the title role in Pinocchio at Cedar Rapids Opera, as well as Flora in La Traviata, Carmen in Carmen, Giulietta in Les contes d’Hoffmann, Meg in Mark Adamo’s Little Women, Mrs. Herring in Benjamin Britten’s Albert Herring and the Nurse in Michael Torke’s Strawberry Fields.

Stephanie placed 3rd nationally in the New York Lyric Opera Competition, where she made her Carnegie Hall debut. She was the winner of the Miami-Dade artist access grant award, and the Concerto Competition at New World School of the Arts. Stephanie has also placed in the semi-finals of the Florida Grand Opera/Young Patroness of the Arts competition, and the Palm Beach Opera Competition. She has participated in distinguished opera programs such as the Miami Music Festival, International Vocal Arts Institute, Opera Academy of California, and the Manhattan School of Music Summer Festival.

I've taken many lessons with Stephanie over the past 2 years, most of which via FaceTime or Skype which has always been successful, and convenient that neither of us has to travel.

Stephanie is patient beyond belief, but also incredibly driven and focused in her teaching technique. My range has expanded, my tone has become warmer, and I'm an all around better musician with her as my teacher. The way she approaches the voice is both confident and very professional, and I would happily recommend anybody to study with her; beginning, intermediate, or advanced. She is a gem!
