Shortly after my 37th birthday, I decided I wanted to learn to play piano. Although I hadn't touched a musical instrument in over 20 years and forgotten a vast majority of what I had learned as a child, Ruth was there to coach me through the process. She's incredibly knowledgeable about music, shown flexibility when I've had scheduling conflicts, and genuinely cares about my progress. She's been instrumental (pun intended!) in my musical journey and I can't say enough great things about her. Thank you, Ruth!

I've played piano since I was four years old. You'll learn not just how to become technically proficient, but how to find the emotional nuances in every piece. You'll learn how to interpret every piece you play to make it your own, while still expressing the wishes of the composer. And you'll gain all the technical and theoretical tools you need along the way, all in service of making expressive music.

About Jonathan
I am a classically trained composer and a lifelong performer in rock and indie bands. My teaching/consulting studio will help you develop your full potential as a musical artist, whether you're a songwriter, composer or performer.

Jon is fabulous! He is able to provide a mix of classical, contemporary music styles to build on and develop a broad base of musical interest my son has. He is able to tailor his teaching tools to fit in with my son's interests. This is no mean feat, especially when my son is only 8 years of age.

Thanks so much Jon!

Can you imagine being able to play the piano, even complex and virtuosic music, with ease and effortless musicality? Believe it or not, it is possible!

Playing the piano with good technique and understanding can produce the most amazing music without straining, pain, difficulty or struggling while playing; and yes, you can do it too! This is what I teach my students so they are able to enjoy their playing and not feel like they're not making progress or that they're just going through the motions. There is a way to play the piano that makes it efficient and enjoyable, and I incorporate these ideas directly into the pieces the student wants to work on. I work with classical and contemporary piano music as well as theory, composition and piano technique, all of which help make piano playing as excellent as it can be! Check out my videos (below) and YouTube channel to see effortless playing at work!

I will work with the student on how to practice the concepts needed for each piece ...

Learning piano or any instrument takes patience and is rewarding to see progress. I give the student time to learn and process their songs. I welcome questions and give professional feedback. I think of myself of more of a music coach to provide support through your musical journey.
In-home lessons $30, Studio lessons $25.

About Angie
I started playing the piano when I was about 8 years old living in Salt Lake City Utah. My family would be watching TV or doing something else and I would go upstairs and play the piano instead. I practiced until I got to the level to play Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata original composition. I still love to play that one. I also loved to play a piece my grandfather gave me called Cordoba, by Isaac Albeniz.

I have played bass and keyboards in an original band giving a good knowledge of musical body language. From there I went on to teaching private and group lessons at Pianos n' Pianos studios. I use a few different method books. When deciding which one to use during a lesson, I assess the age of the student and what they can absorb. I started supplementing their lessons by using a write-it-out method, where students can take a few lin
es from a song they like and combine it with other songs. That way they can “compose” and be more invested in the music we are playing.

If you play a wrong note, I tell my students to just keep going and to not lose concentration. Wrong notes happen sometimes. If you make a wrong note in a performance, you can’t stop, you just have to roll with it and keep going. I also encourage singing with the piano that helps learns pitches and notes!

When teaching young children, I make sure to give them variety and plan lessons only about 30 minutes long. For adult learner, it is very good to play piano to keep the mind active and sharp. So really any age, 6 and up, is a good age!

Hello! My name is Olivia R. and I am currently a Master's student in Piano Teaching and Performance at CU Boulder.

Teaching piano is something that I love. I have taught for 7 years now in both Nashville, TN (Music City) and Little Rock, AR. My students have ranged from ages 5 to 15. Classical piano is my specialty, but I also enjoy teaching jazz, pop, and ensemble piano. I am currently employed at the Parlando School for the Arts in Boulder and teach there on a weekly basis.

As a music student and teacher, I value the qualities of hard work and excellence while also encouraging my students to never forget that music is fun and inspirational! For me, educating others in music is a way I hope to contribute positively to my local community. Being given the opportunity to share music and inspire those around me through it is a tremendous gift and privilege that I do not take for granted.

About Olivia
Hello!

I am a Master's student at CU Boulder studying Piano Teaching and Performance. For the past four years, I have lived in Nashville, TN (Music City) - obtaining my Bachelor's Degree in Piano Performance from Belmont University, teaching, and gigging in the city.

I specialize in classical piano, but also teach pop, jazz, and ensemble repertoire. Classical piano lessons (especially for beginners) provide a great foundation for students, even if they decide later on to pursue another musical genre. As a pianist in Nashville, I've been privileged to work with musicians from all genres. In 2012, I was featured in the holiday special, Christmas at Belmont which aired on PBS. I also had the privilege of working with three time Grammy award-winner, Michael W. Smith in 2013. In 2015 and 2016, I was fortunate to play with the Nashville Sym
phony and the Tennessee All-State Orchestra, working with world-renowned conductor, Giancarlo Guerrero.

My teaching philosophy is that music should be inspiring! I truly believe and have seen first-hand that music lessons have the power to change lives at any age. For me, teaching piano is a way to positively contribute to my local community. I am currently teaching at the Parlando School for the Arts in Boulder and hope to expand my teaching studio into the broader community.

Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or reference requests. I look forward to meeting you!

I can't recommend Olivia highly enough! She did an excellent job with my ants-in-his-pants 7-year-old son. She is extremely patient and knows the trick to motivate each student individually. She figured out what "made my son tick", and taught him from that perspective. One thing I especially appreciated was Olivia's ensemble piano efforts with my son and the rest of the students in her studio. They played such a sweet 8-hand piano piece for a recital. It brought down the house! It is a rare teacher that would be willing to take the time to coordinate 4 students and coach them through a song so that they'd be able to perform on a recital.

My experience with Olivia was been outstanding! While I was completing my undergraduate degree, I hired Olivia to perform a few difficult piano movements I had written. Before that point, I did not have much experience writing for piano, but she had incredible insight into making the music more idiomatic for the piano. Additionally, I received piano lessons from her to supplement my college instruction. She was very very patient and her love for the piano was clear through her instruction. I could not recommend her high enough.

Highly motivated piano teacher with a comprehensive background in performance, music education, and music theory. More than 20 years as a soloist and in a variety of ensembles. Many years experience of teaching private piano lesson. Students all get high scores on ABRSM (Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music) exam. My goal is to let more and more kids enjoy playing piano, and learn strong skills.

About Iris
I am a professional pianist, and sound engineer. I graduated from University of California, San Diego with a Bachelors of Music, emphasis on music performance, and music technology.

I have been professionally playing piano over 20 years as a soloist in a rich western music history background, and also play in ensembles, such as jazz band. I focus on classical music in most of my life. I have held several solo recitals in these years in Conrad Prebys Music Center.

I start teaching piano since I was a college student. I've be teaching over 50 students in the past few years. My students are all from different ages and experience levels, from beginner to advanced. I can teach in bilingual English-Chinese. Students can learn not only playing songs, but also a strong knowledge of music theory, sight reading, and ear training in my lesson.

I am an easy-going person, and I love to communicate and teach kids as a music mentor. Also, for my advanced students, I like to focus on more details such as voice leading, phrase build, and breath. And I will give my students more space to create their own music style.

Enjoy is the most important thing of learning music. Please join me and we will have a wonderful adventure in the music world together.
