I've been teaching beginning cello for over 30 years. Within the first few lessons, you'll be able to play pizzicato and learn how to hold the bow. As time goes on you'll be able to read music and play simple songs. Any beginning cello book will get us started. In addition to your cello and book, you will also need rosin. As you progress, a tuner and a metronome may be helpful. I love working with students of all ages and experience levels and I can't wait to meet you!

I had no experience with string instruments and feel I'm on my way to playing the cello competently. Byron keeps things fun and moving along at a good pace. He's especially good at diagnosing the cause of any difficulties I'm having.

I've performed internationally in Russia, Germany, Kyrgyzstan, and the USA.
I've been a member of the Skokie Valley Symphony and Highland Park Strings. I currently teach in my private studio in Chicago area and have been doing so for the past 8 years.
I love to teach this beautiful instrument and strongly believe that everyone has he potential to learn to play it at any age! The art of music makes us better people and more in tune with the world - it heals our souls and has the power to bring us all together. My philosophy for teaching cello is to bring out the best in a person, through the genuine connections we make over time. Many beginning musicians wonder, “Is cello hard to learn?” The process of learning the cello is not difficult, but it’s important to keep in mind that the cello is not an instrument of instant gratification. It does require focused, daily practice time and a good teacher to guide you along the way.
