Paul M is an American born, New York-based Piano teacher, Vocal coach, Pianist, Composer and Artist. As an educator, Paul is part of The Suffolk Piano Teachers Forum, College Music Society and Music Teachers National. He has been an Adjunct-instructor at New York University (NYU). Paul also conducts master classes and seminars in The United states and South America. For the past few years, he has implemented classes in composition and music history in the coastal area of Ecuador and New York. His music studio in New York City is in high demand.  His recent public performances include Ecuador South America, Steinway Hall NYC, The United Nations, Faust Harrison Hall, Saint Peters NYC and The Staller Center. Paul has performed with The Stony Brook Symphony Orchestra and The New York University Symphony Orchestra. He has studied with well-known piano teachers including: Martin Canin, Morey Ritt, Tina Dahl, and Anita Gelber. In 2011 he released a record consisting of his performance of original compositions for solo piano that is available in bookstores and on iTunes.
As a composer Paul has composed music for the feature film Documentary Between the Shades, directed by Jill Salvino and premiered at the Soho International Film Festival in 2017. In 2014, Paul was the composer for the radio show Ackerman Associates Meets Dracula written and directed by Peter Stass. In 2014 he wrote the score for, Lies People Tell, a short film that premiered at the san pedro film festival. In 2011, he released his first solo record Succession of images, a song cycle for solo piano. In 2017, he released his second record Hope, a chamber music work recorded with clarinetist Thomas Piercy and Violinist Patrisa Tomassini. Recent public piano performances of his music include Ecuador in South America, Steinway Hall NYC, The United Nations, Spectrum NYC, Faust Harrison Hall, Saint Peters in NYC and The Staller Center in Stony Brook NY.

As an artist, Paul is known for creating large instillations, paintings and live performing art pieces. From 2014-2016, he was the artist in residence at Spectrum Gallery in NYC. In 2014, he completed the Elevator Time Machine, a large instillation made of elevator parts that responds to sound. He also wrote and produced a 20 minute live art piece called Static in Movement for piano and video. His acrylic on canvas works have also been presented at Spectrum NYC, The Art Bar, The Gallery at Logos and Ward-Nasse gallery.

I am also a composition teacher. I work with composition students from beginner to advance. My composition students, over the years, range from all ages starting at 7. My students, after the first year, have been able to write string quartets and piano trios. My advanced students have entered competitions all over the country and are very successful in their composition practice. Some of their compositions have been performed in famous concert halls and schools.
As a vocal coach, I work with students of all ages. The repertoire that I recommend to beginner students includes Disney, Broadway and classical music. For intermediate and advanced vocal student, I have successfully prepared them for competitions, Broadway and University auditions as well as personal enjoyment.
Most recently I held a piano, composition and vocal recital for my students at the world famous Steinway Hall in New York City. I believe that some students work better when there is motivation for performance activities. For that reason I host these type of events. Students that decide they want to take place in these events perform among all levels. I offer these performance opportunities as an invitation. Each student has a choice as to whether they would like to perform.

I mentioned to Gregory specifically I wanted to learn, which was GarageBand for iPad. He told me he taught middle schoolers and to book with him. I asked for more specificity on could he teach this exact thing, to make sure there was no confusion (please check the conversation he and I had within the takelessons website) and he kept saying book with me. I did.

He may know a thing or two about GarageBand (I don't know that for sure), but he knew very little about iPad GarageBand. It was a complete waste of my time. In text messages I said to him that I would not give him a bad review, but I was going to ask for a refund. He said thank you for not leaving a bad review. But then he wouldn't allow refund. Good God!

So here we are. He wasted 2.5 hours of my time, cost me parking in the city, didn't teach me literally anything, and he wouldn't give up the 50 bucks

All that said, now here I am having to take more of my time that could be used for productive purposes, to have to write a bad review. He really deserves this.

Very nice. It would have been better if I knew what books to purchase ahead of time. To maximize the lesson time, teacher should send expectations and tips for success to students ahead so preparation can take place. Be sure to have your own equipment too.

I am a classical trained pianist and I have been teaching music since my 2nd year of college in the Boston Conservatory. Combining music appreciation/basic theory with piano playing is the signature of my piano lessons! I believe that piano lessons do not mean only practicing but more importantly, you really need to listen and know and enjoy the music. Therefore besides regular piano learning, students will be introduced well-known music repertoire with famous composers' stories(usually 5-10 minutes each lesson), which I think is the key to fall in love with music!

My teaching subjects include Piano Playing, Music Theory, Ear Training(via games!), Music Appreciation for beginners and Harmony and Counterpoint, Form Analysis and Music History for advanced students.

About April
April Chung is a young Taiwanese pianist who has performed in many countries. She began to play the piano at the age of four and gave her first performance at the age of seven. Her recent performances include solo recitals in Boston and Los Angeles, piano concertos at the Perugia Festival in Italy, as well as chamber concerts in Luxemburg. She has also performed as a soloist in Salzburg, Austria and Taipei, Taiwan.

Besides performing, Ms. Chung enjoys teaching music. Her students include all ages and the subjects range from piano playing to music theory, harmony and counterpoint, ear training, form and analysis, as well as music appreciation.

Ms. Chung holds a Masters of Music degree in Piano Performance from the University of Southern California under the studios of Professor Bernadene Blaha and Professor Daniel Pollack. Ms. Chun

April is a knowledgable, skilled and kind piano teacher. She is very knowledgable about and helps me with the little details in the songs I play like articulation in Bach and rubato in Chopin. Overall, since I've been taking lessons with her, my technique, interpretation and music theory have all improved greatly. :)))

Very good piano teacher. I had the pleasure of taking piano lessons with April and she has a natural ability to teach. April helped me to make a lot of progress in a very short time! And she is very involved in having the classes always very enjoyable for the student, by adding some cultural/historical references and funny facts about classical composers and music in general.

I've been taking lessons with Ms. April Chung for a couple months. I had not played the piano since high school, and was hoping to pick up the old habit. Lessons with Ms. Chung has been pleasant, efficient, and very informative. I am very impressed (or shall we say surprised?) in how fast my techniques improved over the short period of time. I was able to put together a solid Chopin piece in good shape over a few weeks. I especially admire April's tips for self-practicing, and her balanced focus on both basic skills and musical expressiveness. I highly recommend anyone, with different experience and age, to work with Ms. Chung and learn to enjoy playing the piano.

Arend was born and raised in Sacramento, CA. He began playing piano at 7. His teacher was Dr. Beverly Wesner-Hoehn, PhD, a classical Harpist and Pianist who performs throughout California. During his years at school, he performed in musical productions and was twice awarded the All Star Piano Student Award in 2004 and 2011.

In 2012, while attending American River College in Sacramento, CA, Arend auditioned and was chosen to be in the Piano Program for music major students. He studied Music Theory with Dr. Joseph Gilman. His piano instructor was Professor Tatiana Scott, a well-known professor and teacher from Russia who taught him the studies of ear training and melodic dictation. During his years at American River College, he auditioned and was chosen three times to perform with ARC Orchestra for the Concerto-Aria Competition. At ARC
he earned his A.A. degree in Music and will continue on with his Music education at California State University of Sacramento earning his Bachelor's degree in Piano Performance. He currently studies with American pianist Richard Cionco, one of the piano professors at CSUS.

I've had the opportunity to work with people as young as three and as old as 62. But as far as piano goes I've had mostly students in the Pre-K and early Elementary age range. My piano lessons are fun, engaging and comprehensive. I don't use one method, but have studied many methods, developed my own and customize lessons to best fit the student. I am a graduate of the Columbia-Juilliard exchange program with ten years of teaching experience in beginner to intermediate classical piano and beginner to advanced jazz piano. I also teach accordion, as well as jazz and pop composition, jazz theory and music history. He has also performed at Carnegie Hall, Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola, the Allen Room at Lincoln Center, Ryles Jazz Club, Webster Hall, Symphony Space, The Blue Note and a host of other locations throughout the northeast. Ben has worked extensively with such jazz luminaries as Curtis Lundy, Neal Smith, Winard Harper, Wayne Escoffery and Deborah Davis, and he has shared the stage with Houston Person, Jerry Dodgion, Warren Wolf, Eliot Zigmund and many more. Recently, Ben was a finalist at the 2015 American Jazz Pianist Competition in Melbourne, Florida, and at the 2016 Jacksonville Jazz Piano Competition in Jacksonville, Florida.

Ben is the founder of the Columbia Jazz House, a student-run jazz advocacy group at Columbia University that promotes jazz on campus through concerts, educational workshops and jam sessions. On December 28th, 2015, the Columbia Jazz House was featured in a New York Times article called "Melodies Night and Day in This Columbia Dorm."
