I practice and teach all levels of Classical Piano- from Mozart to Beethoven To Bach to Rachmaninoff , etc.

About David
A fun, friendly, and professional Music Instructor at your service for Voice, Guitar, Piano, Bass, Drums, & Ukulele! I have a BA degree from Florida Atlantic University in Music Performance for Classical/Flamenco/Jazz/Blues guitar and I've also performed on the Piano/Keyboards for a couple different bands too. Love to play & teach pretty much all styles of music! It is always a pure joy & truly rewarding to see my music students grow and flourish in their musical abilities. I have been enjoying doing this now for 20+ years- all ages & levels. I am also in a multi-dimensional rock project and a recording artist with my band Vision.

I believe it's important to learn the rudiments of music to build a good foundation (scales, chord vocabulary, theory, song-composition, performing techniques), but I also base the lessons on whatever th
e interests and strengths are for the student. For example, if you enjoy jazz more than classical we'll focus more on what you are particularly passionate about. I have also been a part of School of Rock Programs in which we provided performances for the students a la Jack Black. Please contact Takelessons to let the musical journey begin...

I took lessons with David for a few months and I was rather thrilled with the lessons in the beginning and quite upset towards the end of our time together. David is a great teacher for the general hobbyist or child but I outgrew his lesson homework within 8 weeks of lessons. It was at this point that I asked David to record the vocal warm ups so I (as well as other students) could practice more conveniently. He assured me he would, and week after weeks, the warm ups weren't available. David knew I only had a limited amount of time until I was moving from the area. He had the idea that we should record one of my original songs using his homemade recording studio. He wasn't very knowledgeable of the program he was using at the time and I was his first student who he tried this on. We ended up using about 6 of my lesson credits on this song (which was out of time from the beginning). After a while of minimal progress on the song, no recorded vocal warm ups and plateau in my vocal learning, I decided to cancel lessons with David earlier than decided. David is a very friendly person with a moderate knowledge of most instruments but I would not recommend him to someone who is serious about advancing their craft on a professional level.

Piano:

A natural teacher at heart, I teach Piano, Visual Arts, and Yoga. I earned my Bachelor of Liberal Arts in Teaching and my California Teaching Credential in the Visual Arts and have been teaching professionally since 2012. I began playing the piano at age seven and advanced to honors recitals of Certificate of Merit through the Music Teachers' Association of California (MTAC). I have experience teaching ages 4-65 and beginning through early-intermediate levels. Beginners are my specialty and I currently teach 12 piano students a week. rom Disney. Students have the options of borrowing my used books or purchasing new books.

My new students love the patience and personalization that I bring to each lesson. I combine theory, technique, practice, rhythm (counting), vocabulary, and performance pieces. Demonstrating each piece, we often have fun singing along and adding games or flashcards to aid in understanding.

Students are expected to practice a minimum of an hour a week at home and schedule reoccurring lessons on this site. They have the chance to earn a stamp on their Piano Passport for completing each piece at 80 percent or better. Further, student receive awards for practice each week. These awards include a variety of stickers and breaks for Piano Tiles on my iPad.

I teach inside my home studio or at your home location, considering you have a piano or keyboard.

Visual Arts:

For four years I taught drawing, painting, sculpture and mixed media to students from grades 5-12 at the San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts, Torrey Pines High School, and Endeavour Academy. My lessons focused on individual creativity and learning about historical and cultural art techniques from around the world. Through the Language of Art, I taught the Elements (line, shape, form, value, space, color, and texture) as well as the Principles (balance, contrast, proportion, variety, unity, and gradation) in each art project. I encouraged every student to analyze their own artwork and the artwork of others through discussions and presentations. Today, I offer private art lessons to individuals of any age who would like to explore their creative side in their media of choice.

I teach inside my home studio or at your home location. Basic materials like paper and pencils are included. Students are expected to buy or pay for canvases, brushes, paints, etc.

Yoga:
When I first tried yoga, my fingertips were 6-8 inches from touching the ground. I learned that yoga is not for the flexible, but it is here to help us become more flexible, strong, and balanced as well as develop inner peace. Over the past 7 years, yoga has woven intricately into my life as I study and write about yoga philosophy.

In March 2015, I received my 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Certificate from Yoga One San Diego. I currently teach with yoga one and donation classes at Mission Bay Park. I’ve attended and taught at International Yoga Conventions and have led 3 local yoga wellness retreats and one international yoga pilgrimage in the summer of 2018. I emphasize the benefits of breathing with your movement, chakra energy, and alignment, and safety in getting into and out of poses. Hannah aspires to share her light and enthusiasm to anyone who is open.

I can teach yoga inside your home, yard, or in Balboa Park.

Combination Lessons
I also offer combination lessons. If you are interested in one hour of yoga and drawing or painting and piano, I’m happy to accommodate.

Hannah is very kind and patient with my seven year old. No matter how little she has practiced, Hannah doesn’t scold—she just supports my kiddo at her own pace. Hannah also puts together awesome recitals, most recently at an outdoor piano near the Hotel Del Coronado—such a great opportunity for her students to share with each other and the community all they are learning. Thanks Hannah!

Niki is an outstanding piano teacher. She began teaching my daughter when she was 9 years old, and after 3 years of lessons, I am extremely pleased with how well my daughter plays the piano. Niki makes learning piano fun and interesting for children by allowing them to choose some of their own popular pieces. Her teaching style is the perfect balance of friendly and encouraging, yet very professional with an emphasis on progress. She sets high expectations and inspires her students through her own love of music. I would highly recommend Niki to any student fortunate enough to work with her.

Every student, at any age has their own unique projection of what the piano should do for them. I have always maintained a great relationship with my students, and worked with each one of them, as if they were the only students I have. first is to et them to understand technique, and to read both staffs. then, we run with all types of pieces and songs, classical to Jazz, to Pop ,to Spanish pieces to Guilds repertoire to recital pieces or songs. Come join me on this music adventure. I love giving recitals through out the year. Not mandatory, but I invite all to attend. I am a Guild member for 25 years also.

About Terry
I love adventure in music, for kids. First we work on technique and reading both staffs. THEN WE RUN WITH MUSIC THAT INTERESTS THEM. I have experience with every faze of pieces, with over 40 years of hands on performances.. If you are interested, I am also a Guild member for over 25 years. I love giving recitals, and include receptions afterward. I left N.Y. and 21 students to live in sunny California. My goal is to inspire piano students to love playing and enjoy the music they can make.

lets get started. I am looking forward to a great new experience. Having a piano in your home is the best gift you can receive. Digital pianos, I have also worked with. Thank you for this opportunity. hope to hear from you soon.

Aku is a talented, kind, and patient teacher. She connected remarkably well with my 4 year old daughter, who always looked forward to her weekly lesson with Aku. She progressed very quickly through her lessons, faster than you would except for someone her age, and I am sure this was because of Aku’s teaching. Aku played a duet with my daughter for her recital. She was the youngest student there and they did so well! I remember when I started taking piano lessons as a child, I was extremely nervous to meet a new teacher and play for them. I wasn't even the painfully shy type, but something about playing music in front of a professional can be very intimidating. I had this expectation of myself to already be good, and I feared that the teacher would make me feel like I wasn't talented enough or didn't have what it took. Thankfully, I had wonderful music teachers (most of the time!) that would create an atmosphere where I felt comfortable. My lessons with my teacher, Mr. Decker, were a joy every week. Now that I myself am continuing this tradition of music instruction (10+ years of teaching experience), I know how important it is to create an environment in which the student feels at ease, and in the right frame of mind for learning and growth. Although I am very serious about achieving musical goals and making fast progress, I know that music is supposed to be fun and enjoyable. Mr. Decker was ...

About Gabriel
Greetings! My name is Gabriel, and I want to welcome you into the wonderful world of piano playing! I am an experienced teacher you can trust to take you or your child to the highest level. I've been playing piano for over 29 years (since I was three)! Growing up in a musical family, I first studied with my mother, who still teaches to this day in Orlando, FL. I studied at the University of Miami, graduating in 2008 with a Bachelors of Arts in Music. Some of my career highlights are
Performing with the Frost Wind Ensemble in Carnegie Hall in 2006.
Performing regularly with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra. They still tour around the world under the direction of Terry Myers.
Performing with The Temptations and The Four Tops (on saxophone, my other professional instrument).
Playing at Universal Orlando's Wizarding World of Harry Potter from
2014-2018.

My teaching philosophy can be summed up in one word: Listening. I think this is the most important skill for a musician, music teacher, and music student. I listen to the student and find out what music already excites them. Then, through that music that they are already interested in, I teach them the universal fundamentals of music: first RHTYHM, then MELODY, then HARMONY. Practice can be fun when you are learning music that you love! I remember being a student myself, and being bored by many of the pieces I had to learn. Practice was drudgery at times! But, as I got older, I started making my own musical choices on what to study, and then I couldn't take myself away from practice! I look forward to my practice time every day, and I want to show you how to have that same excitement for learning and growth. I tailor my lessons to the needs of the individual student. I am always kind and patient, but I do push you to achieve your full potential! Let's get started!

I've been playing music all of my life. Growing up in a musical household inspired me to pursue and study music at a professional level. I've played solo performances and with groups for audiences large and small. Now I want to help you achieve your musical goals! I work with students of all ages to make sure they're practiced, prepared, and confident so that they can reach greater musical heights than before - and then keep going!

About Patrick
Hi! I've been playing music since I was a young child and grew up in a musical household. Exposed to many different varieties of music, musical instruments, and musicians, I found myself enveloped in a culture of music - one that I'm not about to escape from any time soon! I believe music really is a universal language, capable of bringing together people from around the world, capable of connecting people in ways never thought possible. I want to share this gift with you! My approach begins with my #1 rule: to make it fun. Too often we focus on mistakes or technical prowess and not the real reason why we play, which is to connect and share and have a good time while doing it! I have methods to teach those technical abilities and rote theories without the pain of workbooks or boring exercises. I'm ready to hear you PLAY, and I bet you are
too!
