About David
I have been a working musician and occasional private music teacher for over 40 years. During that time I had a career in the professional audio and video industry, during which I learned how to successfully deal with people. I recently returned to school and completed a Bachelor of Music in Music Education degree at CSU Sacramento. My goal is to bring excitement and enthusiasm for music and playing an instrument to my students, and to create musicians who will make and enjoy music throughout their lives. I play guitar, bass guitar and flute, and enjoy teaching all of them to all age groups.

*** Lesson Details ***
Playing music is supposed to be fun. Lessons include playing, so they should be fun as well. My lessons are both focused and fun. I believe you get out of music what you put in. If a student doesn't practice in between lesso
ns, I will know. If a student does practice, I will know that as well. My lessons stress not only what to practice, but how. In 3-6 months, the beginning student can expect to be able to make a pleasing sound on the instrument, and be able to play beginning repertoire. Most importantly, the student will be able to play well enough to enjoy the instrument, which inevitably leads to more productive practice and continued improvement. This continued improvement is what lessons are all about.

*** Travel Equipment ***
If I travel to a student's home, I will bring my instrument only. I expect the student to provide all other equipment necessary for the lesson.

*** Specialties ***
Folk guitar, rock and roll and blues bass, classical flute, analog and digital recording, music theory

Learn your favorite songs, grooves, jams and tunes! The first few lessons are about establishing good ears, good time feel, and a few fundamental techniques for the left and right hand. After that, it's all about tunes and the kind of music you intend to play.
Lessons include ear training, rhythm, performance techniques, a personalized tune list, in addition to common bass practices. Optional courses of study include improvisation, music theory, composition, arranging.

About Jordan
*Experienced teacher and professional musician...
*Military, Teacher, and early bird discounts available, up to 15% off. Use the ask a question feature for details :)
-Over 6,000 lessons taught to over 300 students.
-Over five years of teaching experience in classroom settings: K-5 general music, middle and high school band, under graduate music history, directing college music ensembles
-Performed with:
Great Good Fine Ok, 10,000 Maniacs, The Mighty Untouchables, Tori Roze & The Hot Mess, Gaslamp Quarter Jazz Orchestra, and many more.
-Students have included: ages 4-96, beginners with no experience, undergraduate music majors, scholarship award winners, members of the San Diego Youth Symphony program, many locals in San Diego, and online students from around the world :)

My mission is to provide a positive musical experience f
or all students. For some this includes rigorous preparation for an audition of some kind, for others it may be an introduction to music fundamentals to foster better listening skills and greater artistic appreciation. All students will be challenged to improve their listening, timing, and technique. All students will learn to play songs that they love.

Recommendations for best results: make a three-month commitment to weekly lessons, and work up to 30 minutes of daily practice. This formula guarantees results. Bring your instrument, music books, and a binder with sheet protectors ☺

*Scheduling policy: to avoid being charged for a lesson - One week notice is required to cancel, skip, or "roll over" a lesson. 24 hours notice to reschedule (based on availability).

Good Luck!

Jordan was born and raised in the El Centro, California where he began playing the alto sax in the elementary band program. At the age of 12, he began his study of guitar and drums, performing in several rock and ska bands around his home town and San Diego. At age 14, is where he found his love for brass instruments when he took up the trombone. While in high school he became a featured soloist with the Imperial Valley College Jazz Orchestra, under the direction of the legendary trumpeter Jimmy Cannon. It was this that lead Jordan to accept the Constance Weldon Music Scholarship to attend the University of Miami in Coral Gables, FL.

While performing in South Florida Jordan appeared with major acts including 10,000 Maniacs, and appeared on the Spanish television show "Calle Ocho." He also gained invaluable experience teaching in Miami public schools. His first teaching assignment was at Hialeah-Miami Lakes Senior High School where he directed 3 beginning bands, Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, and their highly decorated Jazz Band. Later Jordan moved into the elementary setting, teaching vocal and instrumental music for grades K-5 at Cypress Elementary.

In 2007, Jordan returned to California to pursue a music career in San Diego. He can be seen performing all over San Diego, Orange, and LA Counties in styles ranging from rock, jazz, funk, blues, hip-hop, Latin, and more. He performs primarily on trombone, piano, and guitar, but is known to pick up percussion, harmonica, and other wind instruments as well. Jordan, along with the rest of the aggressively funky cover band SuperMagnetic, were the grand prize winner of the 2010 Viejas Ultimate Music Challenge 4. In 2011, Tori Roze & The Hot Mess were nominated for a San Diego Music Award in the category of "Best Blues Artist" after the release of their first album "From The Hip." They released their second album "Turbulence" last December, and are heard regularly on local San Diego radio. This album has also been nominated for Best Pop album for the 2013 San Diego Music Awards. In 2013, Jordan completed his Master of Music degree in Jazz Studies from San Diego State University.

On stage, Jordan is a talented and versatile performer. He is known for his trombone sound and improvisational ability, as well as his positive relationship with his fellow musicians. In lessons, Jordan is energetic and creative.

I also currently perform in both original and cover bands on trombone, keyboard and guitar, in a range of styles including rock, reggae, Latin, and funk. I will teach you to play bass with authority.

About Dyce
Dyce’s action-packed lessons get aspiring students learning real songs in no time—all while teaching them music theory and scales that connects the music to relatable, practical theory. His custom-tailored lessons are based on this realization. “I know that all of my students are unique, both as people, and as musicians,” Dyce states, “so I realized that my lessons should celebrate these differences.” Instead of following a rigid, “cookie-cutter” approach to teaching, he makes allowances for these differences, and custom tailors a lesson plan that enriches their musical tastes, goals, and strengths. Dyce has learned, over two decades of playing and teaching professionally, when to push students—and when to stay out of the way. This sort of expert guidance helps students flourish, because they learn music on their own terms.

Aaron has been a perfect fit for both my 11 year old son and almost 16 year old daughter. He is patient, creative, and enthusiastic and has managed to ignite a passion for guitar with both kids. They have learned most of the basic guitar chords, learned his methods to both identify a chord based on its shape, form chords when given a name and are now tackling occasional barre chords that come up in songs learned. They learned to read tablature, chord diagrams, and lead sheets. He has taught them contemporary songs they love to play and we like to hear ! Can reccommend Aaron hands down without any reservations ! He's a delight to have in our home and a wonderful mentor / teacher for our kids.

Most bass players start out as a guitar player. Then they wind up putting a band together in a garage with two other guitar players and drawing the short straw. If you're just starting out, there are many similarities between the bass and the guitar, (the top four strings are tuned the same, and they both have pickups, but that's about it. Six months to a year of lessons with the right teacher can really make a real bass player out of you. The most important aspect I teach is the approach. You need to start thinking about the groove and being support for the band, like the foundation of a house. A bit of theory is necessary to know how bass lines should move and interact with the rest of the band. That will also help you learn to play melodically and shine, within the structure of the music. And, a tasteful bassist who doesn't overplay will always have a gig!

About Rick
Hi, I'm Rick. I look forward to helping you reach your goals. I'm going to tell you about me and how I can benefit you as your guitar teacher. You may have heard the old saying, "Those who CAN, do. Those who CAN'T, teach." I don't believe that. I believe that the very best teachers are those who have real world experience, and I do. The ways this benefits you are numerous. I have played music professionally for 40+ years at every venue imaginable, from concerts on big stages before thousands, to fairs, nightclubs, weddings, parties, etc. Over the years, I've learned what it takes to move people, to make them respond and clap. What it takes is playing what the song needs. Not playing every scale and lick you know, as fast as you can. There are many teachers who can teach you that. There are VERY FEW who can teach you how to play what your
audience wants to hear. I can. Whether you are 9 and want to play for family or friends, or 39 and looking to go pro, I'll help you succeed. Thank you.

My students can always expect their first lesson to start with an assessment of their abilities. After I determine my student's level, we establish a goal & I create a personalized lesson plan for each student. Each week I go over what we had previously learned and then start on something new. I send my students home with a detailed practice log and short videos to make sure they are practicing the correct way. Each month I give my students an assessment on both performance & music theory.

About Maurissa
Missy Jones (AKA Maurissa Jones) has been playing professionally since she was 16 years old. She started with the violin when she was in the fifth grade and expanded her musical knowledge to other instruments such as bass, guitar, piano, and drums once she got into high school.

In her freshman year of high school she joined her first band, Darkhorse, and played bass with them in American Legions, Moose lodges, and VFW Halls.

Once she gained the necessary experience playing live, she was hired by many other bands. Soon she was playing professionally with multiple bands at a time.

Teaching being her passion, she began giving music lessons to her classmates. It didn't take long before she was teaching the children of family friends and fellow church goers. And now, with many years of teaching experience, she is playing and teaching
music full time.
