I just recently started with Dee. She is doing a great job of helping me realistically assess my performance, and constructively set goals to improve the aspects that need work. It's been fun and very helpful.

Our 8 year old son had his first Guitar lesson with Dee this past weekend, and she was amazing. She wasted no time getting down to brass tacks with our son, showing him the various parts of the guitar, how to hold it and within minutes he knew two chords. She was able to keep our kiddo engaged, offered great praise and positive feedback/reinforcement and kept him on task for the entire 45 minute lesson. We could not be happier and cannot wait to see what he learns during his next lessons with her!

Are wondering why every time you hit a certain note, it squeaks, or crunches, or sounds glassy? Or maybe you can't quite read the notes. Perhaps you are no stranger to the instrument, but need improvement of musicianship, expression, etc. Let me help you master the skills you're trying to achieve. With my help, you can make breathtaking music!

About Kimberly

I grew up in a household of 9 where music was always center stage. We would sing as a family in different venues and were often called the VonTrapp family. I have enjoyed singing and performing from a young age. I began studying flute at age 8, after scoring highest in the harmony listening exam and began formal violin lessons at the age of 9. I studied all genres including, fiddle, classical, musical theater and 20th century. I have continued to study violin since then and have performed in many orchestras and small groups, such as Honor Orchestra, the Paradise Symphony, the Yuba College Orchestra, Yuba-Sutter Oratorio Society Orchestra and more. I have been concert master and first stand in many of these. I have also soloed in many and have been the first violinist in quartets for countless weddings and other events. I have also played

in numerous pit orchestras for musicals.
I have been in choirs and soloing since I can remember. I have performed and soloed in choirs such as the Yuba-Sutter Oratorio Society, CSUS Chamber Choir, the CSUS Women's Choir and more. I have toured to Victoria, Montreal, Ottowa, Oregon and Washington. I have also been in opera productions such as The Magic Flute, Peleas and Melisande and Die Fledermaus (The Bat) with CSUS Opera. I am a recent recipient of the Saturday Club Scholarship, a prestigious award, and have won many competitions (some repeatedly) both vocally and with violin, such as the Tri-County Competition, Young Artist Competitions, and the California Soloist and Ensemble Competitions. Additionally, I have performed musical theater repertoire and have performed as lead in musicals such as Beauty and the Beast and Into the Woods. I have also soloed repeatedly with the Yuba College jazz band and at churches all around.
I have earned my Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from CSU Sacramento. I have my Associates Degrees in both Music and Early Childhood Education from Yuba College. Additionally, I have obtained my certificate of completion of training from Music Together, an organization which trains teachers to teach Basic Music Competence (both in tonality and meter), and am currently teaching this curriculum.
I have been teaching music privately for over ten years to all ages, genders and abilities. Additionally, I have taught ages 0-5 years in a preschool setting for 7 years and am extremely familiar with developmentally appropriate practices for both preschool and school age, as I am a site supervisor at a child development center with a preschool and after school program. I have had many adult students as well and encourage adults to enrich their lives with music at any age! Additionally, I have experience teaching parent child classes and am familiar with how to teach to the particular needs of each family and student.
I'm extremely excited and looking forward to growing as a professional, both teaching and performing, in both the areas of violin and voice and to be instrumental in your musical growth too; I can't wait to share my passion with you and to ignite your passion for music too!

*** Lesson Details ***
I have been teaching since 2002 and have loved every minute of it! I teach all ages. I tailor my style of teaching to each student's goals and to what works for you. If you want to learn Taylor Swift music, I won't be giving you arias. On the other hand, if you wish to study classically, I have repertoire appropriate for you. I teach fiddle, classical, orchestral, 20th century and more for violin students and have experience with jazz, classical, musical theater, pop, religious, spiritual, choral, 20th century and more vocally.
For violin students, I use the Suzuki method as a pushing off point, a tried and true method used in many countries across the world, though I have other repertoire including fiddle, orchestra, small ensemble, solo, concertos, Christmas, and more. For vocalist, I start with the book, Adventures in Singing. I also have warm ups and exercises to keep you vocally healthy. I will teach you anything you want to learn! I also teach how to read music, theory and harmony, depending on your interest and tailored to your current skill level.
I am encouraging and knowledgeable. I will meet you at your current level, be that beginner, intermediate, or advanced. My students can look forward to being encouraged and growing through their time with me. I don't have preset ideas about where you should be in 3-6 months, nor do I have a one size fits all teaching style. Instead, I will work with you individually so that you will become the best musician you can be, meet your goals, and increase your enjoyment and appreciation for music.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Lessons in open space, upright piano, digital piano, music stands, metronome, violins available for rent, music, staff paper and computer

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect my students to provide the instrument with all of it's accessories (ie shoulder rest, rosin, bow and case) along with the appropriate level Suzuki book. I have instruments available for rent. My voice students should bring their own music also. I have a piano in my studio along with music stands. Of course, every student must have a pencil and come ready to have fun learning! :)

*** Specialties ***
Suzuki, solfege, art songs and arias, reading music, fiddle, classical, healthy vocal technique and musical theater. I am very good at working with any age.

I have been working with Kim for a few weeks and I have learned a tremendous amount and can hear the difference every week as I progress. I enjoy the process she applies to keep it positive and fun yet learn the proper fundamentals required to perform well. I actually tried a few vocal teachers and Kim with her wisdom and experience made it simple who to go with!!

Kim can teach you or your child, no matter where you are!

I was 30 when I decided to rekindle my love for the violin. I hadn’t played since before YouTube was invented, and I was skeptical about learning violin online. By the first lesson, Kim had already corrected poor habits I didn’t know I had, just after hearing me play a few scales. She adjusted her teaching style to my personality so seamlessly that I felt I was just getting pointers from a dear violinist friend whose advice is always spot-on. Weekly practice never felt like work, because Kim tailored my assignments to my goals. Before I knew it, I was playing complex concertos I could never do in high school. I started out being able to play just one major scale. Within 10 months, I was in Suzuki Book 4!
I can’t say enough about Kim’s expert teaching skills. During a sight-reading of a very difficult piece, I became so frustrated that I wanted to stop the lesson and try again later. Kim encouraged me until I had gotten all the way through, and pointed out what I could learn from my performance. When I had time to calm down, I realized that Kim can do this for any student; adults, children, and adults whose inner child throws a tantrum when they’re frustrated by a musical challenge. :-)

Teachers like Kim are rare, and worth their weight in gold. I learned so much more than violin fundamentals through my lessons with her. I’m convinced Kim can teach anyone, of any age—even through an online platform.

I focus on note reading and music theory, in addition to technical studies. I encourage chamber music and will often pair up students to play duets and trios.

About Mari

Welcome to my music studio!

This will be a fun, incredible way to start or continue your music instruction. I have been a private violin and piano instructor since 1991. I took a break in 2005 while my kids were little. Now that they have grown up a bit, I am so excited to come back to this!

My teaching methods involve reading notes. I do not teach the Suzuki method. If that is what you are looking for, I can refer you to some wonderful local teachers. I will have 2 recitals a year and some workshops and clinics in between.

Thank you and I am looking forward to taking this musical journey with you!

Recitals and Performances: I will schedule 2 recitals a year and I highly encourage students to attend and participate in both.

Practice: A student's progress is 100% based on the practicing that takes place at home. I recom

mend having a scheduled time everyday that is dedicated to uninterrupted practice time. For 30 minute lessons, I recommend a 30 minute practice.

Books and Materials: On the first day, I will have books that you can buy from me. Please bring books to every lesson.
PIANO STUDENTS: It is crucial that you have a working piano at home. While I understand it's a huge commitment to buy/rent a piano, playing on a keyboard is not the same. The exception is if you have a full size keyboard (88 keys), with touch sensitivity.
VIOLIN/VIOLA STUDENTS: PLEASE consult me before you buy/rent a violin. There are several places that you can buy a violin 'package' for $99. For not much more, you can have a violin that is higher quality and will sound better. Remember, you only sound as good as your instrument! I know several reputable places that rent instruments that are of high quality.

Summer Schedule: I will try and be as accommodating as possible for the summer. If you know already which days you will be gone, let me know and we can work it into the calendar.

My approach to teaching lessons has always been with a gentle, calm demeanor. However, that said, I do want my students to excel and feel challenged. If at any time, you have concerns, please don't hesitate to talk to me about them. I want this to be a fun experience and the only way to ensure that is to make sure that the port of communication is always open. Thank you and let's get started!

I absolutely loved learning from Mari for my piano lessons! As an adult learner, I felt like my brain doesn't work as fast as it used to, so learning a new instrument was difficult, but Mari completely caters each lesson to my learning speed and maximized my abilities. She takes into accounts the areas and types of music I wanted to learn and helped me to achieve being able to play that type of music. I also loved and appreciated that she works around my busy work schedule and accommodating lessons when plans change throughout the week. I would highly recommend Mari as a music teacher to anyone interested in learning a new instrument at all ages!

Luther stays where I’m at and then helps me go the next step. That is useful for consistent gradual progress without the frustrations of moving either too slow or too fast (I am a beginning tenor saxophone player). Nice interpersonal style, patient and easy going, while methodical.

I think Luther is great. He works with my 10-year old son on piano, singing and even trumpet and violin as needed. My son has to work hard to progress, and Luther customizes the lesson plan for him and seems to understand him well. I'm really excited about them working together.

Students can expect to learn the basics of holding and creating sound from a stringed instrument; parts of the viola; the string names; note reading; and to have a really great time learning!

About Lisa C.

After playing the violin for over 20 years, Lisa was inspired to share the gift of music with others by her teacher, Susanna Sonnenberg. Lisa has attended the 2017 and 2018 American String Teachers Association National Conferences. She currently performs with the Edgewood Symphony Orchestra, the Pittsburgh Philharmonic, the Pittsburgh Civic Orchestra, and with outreach quartets. Lisa has played in recitals, the Chartiers Valley High School Orchestra, and was accepted to the 2006 PMEA District Orchestra. She has studied with Larry Weiss, Linda Andersen, and others. Lisa can’t remember a time before she learned how to play the violin; it has brought her great joy. Her favorite pieces to play are the Bach Double Concerto in D Minor and The Lark Ascending.

At 8 years old, Lisa fell in love with the violin. Throughout school, she studied w

ith private teachers and played with the school orchestra. At home, her dogs were a great audience.

Lisa went on to study history at the University of Pittsburgh, and later earned her law degree from Duquesne. She never forgot her violin, though, and continued to play in her spare time.

Music adds beauty to the world, and finally, after years of keeping the violin to herself, Lisa decided to share her playing with others. Lisa teaches traditional, classical method. The method books she uses include: Essential Elements for Strings, Samuel Applebaum, and All for Strings, among others. She supplements the technical exercises with repertoire from the Suzuki series. Lisa enjoys playing all types of music, in addition to classical, and teaches these songs, as well. Additional music includes pop artists like Taylor Swift, classic rock, electronic music like Lindsey Stirling, celtic, folk, and just about any other type of music you can think of. As a teacher, Lisa strives to be positive and encouraging. She believes that music should be fun, so her main goal is to make sure her students are having a good time!

Students can expect a relaxed, fun, and encouraging atmosphere for learning. The viola can be an intimidating instrument- you will make a lot of unpleasant sounds before you start sounding great- and that's okay! I'll be there to guide you and help you reach your goals.

If you're already an experience player, you can expect me "workshopping" your technique. We will analyze your form, practice patterns, and playing style, to ensure that you are growing and improving from the moment we begin. I will push you to become the most expressive player that you can become, but at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

What young students can expect:

- Preparing for entry into school orchestra
- Polishing up school orchestra repertoire
- Learning new material and scales
- Perfecting their technique
- Preparing for NYSSMA
- Preparing college audition tapes (I do have the ability to record these as well)
- Learning to play with confidence
- Learning vibrato

About Dayna

Hello!,

My classical training began at age 10, when I started to play the viola. From there, I was able to translate my musical skills to violin, guitar, piano, voice, composition, and songwriting.

Originally a biology major at SUNY Purchase College, I quickly became restless knowing that I was unable to focus on music enough. So, I switched it up, followed my passion, and began studying music theory and production. Since then, my life has been focused on teaching, performing, writing, and recording music- and I wouldn't have it any other way!
It's been quite a journey, and I can't wait to share all that I've learned along the way with you.

Whether you are just starting out, or are looking to further the knowledge you already have, I will meet you at where you are, and help you to achieve your personal goals.

Together we can work o

n technique, theory, improvisation, ear-training, songwriting, and more!

I am an experienced classical viola teacher who has been teaching for 5 years from ages 5-16, beginner to advanced! I focus heavily on technique and foundations so the student has a well rounded music education and confidence in the viola that they can take with them forever. For beginners I use the Suzuki books, I Can Read Music series, String Builder series and Winning Rhythms. For more advanced violists I use the Introduction to the Positions series and etude books such as Wohlfahrt and Kreuzer.

About Jocelyn

My name is Jocelyn and I have been playing the violin and viola for 13 years and teaching for 5 years. I am principal viola of the Bryn Mawr-Haverford Orchestra and I also am part of a chamber music group. In high school, I was in the Maryland All-State Orchestra for four years and was in the Maryland Classic Youth Orchestra (MCYO), one of the most prestigious orchestras in Maryland, for four years. During my summers, I attended the Interlochen Center for the Arts high school music program. I have been taught by musicians from the National Symphony Orchestra and National Philharmonic.
My students improve significantly since our first lessons. One of my first students whom I now give Skype lessons to successfully got into one of the best orchestras in the DC area and is now principal (1st chair) of the viola section of that orchestra. A

nother student, who I started teaching when they were six years old, is now a year later on Suzuki book 2, Wohlfahrt Etudes and is learning third position as a seven year old.
I use a comprehensive set of books that teach theory, rhythm and pieces that I use to teach students how to prepare and perform "performance ready" pieces.

Private Viola Teacher

Many years of teaching experience both in group and individual settings. I love encouraging students and fostering a love of music. I can teach classical as well as improvisation. I have played as a classical musician, both solo and orchestral, and I’ve played with numerous rock and folk bands.

About Melissa

I began playing violin in elementary school, and immediately knew this was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. My first words as a baby were lyrics because I sang before I spoke. I played violin until 11th grade when I fell in love with the sound of the viola.
I studied music performance and music education in college and I have a bachelors degree in both. I have played professionally in orchestras, quartets, as a soloist, and in many rock and folk settings. I have even put my violin and viola through a distortion pedal and a wah wah pedal in heavy metal/punk music. I have over 17 years of teaching experience and am a licensed teacher in the state of virginia. I have taught in a classroom as well as privately, and have also taught students with autism.
As a student of mine you can expect to improve your playing skills week

to week. I can teach from the very first lesson on. Students will learn techniques to improve their playing and will play fun music. If you are interested in learning improvisation, I can help with that, too. I enjoy teaching violin, viola and cello.
I am most passionate about teaching students to become independent, critical thinking musicians who will be able to rely on their own knowledge to learn new music as they go along. I stress music reading, ear training, and strong fundamentals in playing. I am very encouraging, love spreading my love of music.
Just a quick note: I do like to do my business through this website. If you send me an email trying to get me to personally write to your email, I will not respond.
