My services provide you with an opportunity to learn from a balance state of thinking to achieve success in your goals for the chosen instrument. Whether its technique, learning how to read both musically and literally, my teaching methods are very self reflective and introspective to provide the understanding you're looking for. All in all my sessions are very people friendly and driven to meet your needs. This helps to learn on a deeper level so that you may appreciate, learn faster and enjoy a greater sense of awareness for the fun of the music making process. I have a very warm and easy going approach with an emphasis on FUN so that we can connect to what we love to do which is make music.

I have been playing trumpet since the 4th grade, about 20 years now. I received my Bachelor in Trumpet Performance from the Peabody Conservatory and my Master of Music degree in Trumpet Performance from the Bob Cole Conservatory at California State Long Beach. I have performed all over the United States and abroad and have performed a wide range of musical styles in a variety of musical settings; from classical solos, to contemporary chamber orchestras, to big bands, to top 40's wedding casual bands, to reggae, ska, rock, Latin, Persian, and more still. Whether you just want to learn a bugle call for boy scouts or want to prepare for an audition, competition, or recital, I will provide a comprehensive learning experience for the trumpet. I could take you from a beginner to playing for a living if you would like.

Learn to play the trumpet! Students will learn to develop properly formed embouchure, efficient breathing, breath control, posture and diaphragm support, note fingerings, and develop valve technique, learn and develop proper tonguing and lip flexibility.

Both classical and jazz lessons available.

Strong instrumental playing begins with a solid understanding of the fundamentals of music and the simple act of making a sound from the instrument. Students learn to play music by ear first, and are later introduced to music notation. More advanced lessons emphasize sight-reading, expression, and improvisation.

An instrumentalist since age 10, Thomas has experience as a performer and teacher. His previous education has included methodology classes on teaching specific instruments, and he is available to teach beginning trumpet lessons.

Trumpet is the most physical instrument that requires your whole body to work efficiently. Understanding the breath and how to relax the body goes a long way in learning the trumpet.

As a performer I have played in the Los Angeles and Orange County area for the past 3 years as a member of big bands, jazz combos, and 4 piece brass ensembles. I have taught in both one on one settings as well as full ensemble classes and have seen great progress and success in my students in each. Overall my focus in teaching is on sound quality, technique, and stylistic relevance.

Take lessons with a experienced teacher that actively performs and teaches. What makes me a good teacher is the fact that I struggled during the first few years that I started playing. I had a work through those struggles in order to become the musician I am today, so I know how to break things down and to cater lessons to each individual student. There is no cookie cutter method for all, we each have our own issues to work on. Some naturally gifted teachers will just tell you to play something and make it work...but since I had to work hard to become successful, I can use what I learned to help you to achieve success. I will help you to build a strong fundamental base and to turn your weaknesses into strengths! I've been playing trumpet for 28 years and privately teaching for 20 years. My principal teachers were Michael Sachs (principal trumpet Cleveland Orchestra), Boyde Hood (utility trumpet Los Angeles Philharmonic), and Ray Mase (the Juilliard School/New York City Ballet). Greetings! I am a 3rd year undergraduate student at CSU Northridge. I am studying in the jazz department under Dr. Howie Shear, but have also received instruction from other faculty, most of whom are working musicians in the greater LA area. They include Gary Pratt, Matt Harris, Gary Fukushima, Nick Mancini, Gene Coye, and Katisse Buckingham. I have 8+ years of wind band related experience, as well as 5+ years of big band and small group experience.
