Anna is very good at explaining terms and methods in a way that can be easily understood by a novice such as myself by catering to one's style of learning while at the same time ensuring that the student remain grounded on the fundamentals whether it is in the finger positioning, bowing strokes, or proper posture. I love how she is able not only to identify things that I might be doing wrong but also solutions to difficulties that I might be having during the lessons. As a result, I am very happy at how I have progressed in my skill level since I started a couple of months ago. She is very patient, listens to concerns of the student, very easy to talk to, and has a laid back learning environment. I would highly recommend her to anyone I know who might be interested in learning the violin, whether young or old like myself.

Kyle is a great piano teacher! He is very patient with my 12-year old son. Just yesterday he referred to him as “fun Kyle” because he teaches him small songs on the side that he can show friends and family or are for upcoming holidays. He’s always punctual and respectful of our family and home. I’m grateful to have found him!

Kyle has given me contra bass, aka upright bass, weekly lessons from August 2015 through May 2016. I have never played a string instrument prior to this, although I do play piano and have played the flute, bagpipes, and piccolo over the years. I did not need education in reading music.

Kyle was able to take me from sounding like a lower octave version of Jack Benny (a mid-20th century comedian famous for his howlingly horrid violin playing) to a level where I know how to hold the instrument and the bow, the fingerings, bowing technique, and how to get a very respectable sound from the instrument.

He also installed the strings when I received the new instrument, found a manufacturing flaw in the bridge height that the manufacturer subsequently paid to repair, and diagnosed a resonance issue with the instrument that was corrected with a balance weight on the string below the bridge.

My first lesson was wonderful , I had been trying to learn on my own for the last three months, Mimis instruction was very helpful. She was friendly warm and encouraging. I look forward to my next lesson. I was a little intimidated by her vast experience , she reassured me and put my fears at ease. She also has experience teaching adults which is what I was looking for . I am 50 years old and have no experience playing violin .

Viola jokes are for losers... I think viola has one of the most gorgeous tone in the entire orchestra family. I can work on solo pieces as well as chamber music / orchestral excerpts of your choice.

About Keiko
I am a violinist of the Attacca Quartet, a NY-based string quartet that has been traveling all over the world! In addition to concertizing, my colleagues and I teach students of all levels wherever we go; we have given lessons, masterclasses and lectures in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Ireland, Australia, Japan, UAE... good thing we all speak the universal language of humanity: music.

I grew up in Yokohama, Japan, but I decided that I was ready to explore the world when I was finishing up the 10th grade. I moved to New York to pursue a musical life and career. I have Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Violin Performance, as well as Artist Diploma in String Quartet Studies from The Juilliard School.

I have been teaching students of all ages since 2005. Many of them were young children who simply enjoy playing the vi
olin, but I have had several students win domestic and international competitions. While I enjoyed the experience of being a part of numerous children's lives tremendously, I am slowly moving towards teaching adults because my busy tour life does not allow for me to be in town all the time.

With my adult students, I often encourage them to work on a solo repertoire of an appropriate level, as well as an ensemble piece that would allow us to develop our musicianship. I am very friendly and casual, but if you ask me to, I can be very tough (I was raised by a tiger mom.)

If you are a beginner and need help with reading music in general, don't worry- I teach a course called "Ear Training" at Juilliard, so that can be a part of our lessons as well.

I look forward to meeting you and making music together!

You could not ask for a better teacher. I am an adult beginner. Her lessons are relaxed, even fun, but still challenging. Her temperament is excellent, knowledge and teaching skills superb. She also taught my daughter, who improved significantly and enjoyed their interactions. I have no hesitation recommending her for adult or children's lessons at any level.

Keiko is a skilled and thorough teacher. She knows how to pinpoint what a student needs and break it down to approach in a practical way. She can talk inspirationally and knowledgeably about the musicality of a piece, but then will show the technique to achieve it. She has high standards yet puts one at ease with her care, attentiveness and warmth.

There are many qualities which make Keiko an excellent teacher. She is inspiring , patient creative and practical. As a beginner I am sometimes nervous and a little overwhelmed with the instrument but Keiko is so clear and breaks things down so well that I know how to work.
