I have played piano since I was about 5 years old. I love all styles of music but especially love to play classical pieces on piano. I would love to teach you or your child how to play a classical piece!

About Beckie
Hi!
My name is Beckie and I have played music for all of my life. I play and teach many different instruments such as the French horn, trumpet, piano, saxophone, mandolin, guitar, and voice.

In 2017, I graduated from UCLA with my Masters in Music on French horn. In 2010, I graduated from Chapman University with two degrees in music- music performance on French horn and music education.

My first job was as at a Montessori Academy elementary school, where I was the brass coach for 3 years. This is where I fell in love with teaching. I have been teaching privately for 15 years now and love the one-on-one attention that I can give the students.

I have worked with many great organizations like the Los Angeles Philharmonic and various music studios around Los Angeles.

I currently am a freelance musician, Elementary school music
teacher, brass coach for two local high schools and a private music teacher! I perform with orchestras and groups all around the Los Angeles area. I have performed in such wonderful venues as the Walt Disney Concert Hall and the Sydney Opera house, in which I was able to premier a piece!

I look forward to working with you or your child in helping to start or continue a musical instrument!

*** Lesson Details ***
When I teach lessons, I like to check in with the student to see how their day was and how practicing throughout the week went. I am very patient and will teach at the student's pace. I expect the student to practice during the week, even if for just 10 minutes a day. I will always work with a student as long as it takes to have them understand what is difficult for them musically.

For music, I try to find free options but books may be a better option. When we choose a book to play out of, I like to choose a book together so that the parent and the child are happy about the selection. Books vary based on what the needs are for each student. Books are to be purchased by the parent.

I usually play my instruments with the students, but being a freelance musician, I may need to save my chops for an upcoming gig. Not always, but happens from time to time :)

I also have a 24-hour cancellation/lesson change policy. If you are late for your lesson, I will try to accommodate the time but may have students or rehearsals afterward so it will not always be a guarantee. If you are going to be late, please text me BEFORE the scheduled lesson. Lessons are to be every week as I DO NOT teach bi-weekly lessons.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Lesson space is in my home w/ seating for parents and music stand for students. I also have a cat and a dog, so if you are allergic, please let me know! The dog and the cat are put away for the lessons as to not distract either one of us! They are pretty cute!

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect the student to provide the music books and their own instruments and music stand.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in classical genres of playing but I am able to teach all different styles of music.

Outstanding instructor! Beckie is very positive and encouraging and my son has learned so much in just a few weeks. My son looks forward to his session each week. She is also an amazing musician herself and plays her instrument side by side with my son which allows him to hear and learn the individual notes.

Have you always wanted to learn to play piano? You'll learn to read music, play piano from sight, scales, fingering. I specialize in beginners.

About Carol
I have taught voice for over twenty years. I studied music at University of California, Santa Barbara, where I received my B.A. I currently work as a professional singer for various local opera companies, music theater groups, churches and temples. I am principal soprano for Opera A La Carte and have also soloed with Repertory Opera Company, Redlands Bowl Festival, Laguna Beach Chorale and Celestial Opera Company. I have worked extensively in Los Angeles schools performing musical assemblies for students in elementary and middle grades through Southland Opera, LA Opera and Guild Opera of Southern California. My teaching experience includes private voice lessons and master classes at Idyllwild School for the Arts.

*** Lesson Details ***
I emphasize breathing techniques to free up the voice to expand your range and ease of singing. In
the lesson, we start with simple warm ups and vocalizes and then apply techniques to the songs you want to sing. I realize each student is different and I customize the lesson to the student's particular needs. I specialize in classical and music theater, however the basics of singing apply to all styles of music. In addition to working on breathing and technique for singing, we'll also focus on interpretation of the songs you are working on as well as how to overcome performance nervousness. Most students find that they are able to sing with more freedom, less tension and will have more confidence as they progress.

I also teach beginning piano, using the John W. Schaum series.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Lessons in the main room, upright piano

*** Travel Equipment ***
They need to provide a piano or keyboard if I am going to their home.
I have a piano in my home.

*** Specialties ***
I work on using the breath as a fundamental technique for singing. Singing should never hurt. I use a lot of imagery to achieve freedom in singing.

My reading comprehension on par with where we are on lessons, but my struggle is listening comprehension. I am listening and repeating playback of workbook audio files over and over trying to get it. They speak so fast for beginner like me. Jihye not only helped me with this on her own time, but on our next lesson she made a change. We did the textbook lesson as planned but she reserved a small portion of our time to dictating workbook narrative at a pace I could keep up with. Noted difference on the first go. I am grateful and know I will only get better!! Thank you.

Hi my name is Carmen. I have been teaching music for 10 years to all ages and levels. I make sure my students are able to play a song in the first lesson and customize the lesson to their own goals. I have experince playing in orchestras, trios, quartets, rock and alternative bands as well as teaching classical cello. I have knowledge of many different methods but tailor curriculm based on the students goals. My students have played in orchestras, symphonies, jazz trios and bands

About Carmen
Carmen has been teaching music for 10 years to children and adults, from age 4 to 50. She is able to teach many genres of music to all levels of musicianship, whether beginner or advanced, whether they want to learn Mozart or Coldplay, Aretha Franklin or Joni Mitchell . Her style of teaching utilizes the classical approach of theory and sight reading, but MOST IMPORTANTLY allows the student to explore the instrument freely while also achieving good musicianship. Having fun while honing the craft is the way to an enduring love of playing and is a principle she always uses in her lessons.

Carmen has a special gift with very young children; she is able to keep children interested, engaged, inspired and challenged. She has a patience with children that is extraordinary because she believes strongly in the ability of music to enrich child
ren's lives in all areas and seeks to cultivate that within the child.

Adults also find it easy to learn from Carmen's teaching approach. Her ability to approach a students challenges with a multitude of learning techniques has been useful in helping students succeed. She teaches skills and techniques for practicing that are useful for musicians through out their lifetime. Carmen also knows exactly what it takes to make a student a professional who is ready for studio session work, live band performances, live improvisations, auditions or creating their own music. She understands the desire and drive behind wanting to create with music and emphasizes certain key aspects that can make musicians proficient in any genre when practiced

Education

Carmen comes from a long family lineage of musicians and artists. Always being exposed to classical music and opera since birth, Carmen was in awe of the power of the human voice through opera. At 8 she began to study the art form and teach herself music. She started studying with teachers at age 11. After learning voice, piano and cello followed. While studying classical techniques, she also taught herself other genres of music which enabled her to play, record and perform with musicians of almost every genre by 19.

Carmen has been taught and trained by many professional working musicians of impressive musical carrer heights Her former opera/ vocal coach Shonie Lebie attended The Julliard School on a full scholarship before going on to The Metropolitan Opera House. Piano teacher Shoshana Ben Horin, a graduate of Prague Conservatory of Music and concert pianist, toured all of Europe before instructing Carmen in piano. Carmen has learned cello and other string instruments from professional working musicians here in Los Angeles.

Experience

Carmen is a current working session musician, songwriter and performer in Los Angeles. She has performed and recorded with musicians from The Gap Band, Guns n' Roses, Whitney Houston, Vanessa Hudgens, Hayden Panettiere, etc. She was born and raised in Los Angeles.

Strong instrumental playing begins with a solid understanding of the fundamentals of music and the simple act of making a sound from the instrument. Students learn to play music by ear first, and are later introduced to music notation. More advanced lessons emphasize sight-reading, expression, and improvisation.

Thomas has studied piano for 15 years, and continues to play regularly. His education has included courses specifically on musical instruction methodologies, and he has been trained as a pianist at the collegiate level.

About Thomas
Piano, woodwinds, trumpet, composition
Chords, sight-reading, theory, jazz, classical, and pop

No one ever regrets learning an instrument… yet many grow old wishing they had taken music lessons! A talent they’ll be able to develop their entire life, your children will thank you for giving them the chance to learn music. And bonus points for you: after just a couple years, you’ll have free entertainment every Christmas!

Or maybe YOU’RE the one that wishes to learn! It is never too late to begin learning an instrument. Everybody has the ability, and if you’re determined and interested, there’s nothing stopping us from achieving this very special goal. (Interested in learning to compose? Scroll to the bottom to learn more.)

Everybody learns differently, and everybody likes different things. Whether it’s improvising or singing alon
gside a song you love or reading through a classical concerto, I’ll help prepare you or your child to tackle a wide variety of styles, without missing out on any of the basics that turn good players into phenomenal musicians. We all know it’s not about being the best. It’s about having fun, and playing music well is definitely fun. Music lessons include:

1. Building a really strong foundation so it's easy to interpret or understand any part, and to play it with the right amount of practice.

2. Learning to sight-read music, so you can play it well as soon as possible.

3. Learning how to improvise (make-up) music, learn music by ear, and to understand and create chords, which lets you play music in different ways.

4. Play different styles from classical to jazz to popular music.

5. Learning how to practice efficiently so you can learn music as fast as possible.

6. Composing our own original music.

Practice makes perfect! Learning an instrument helps build self-confidence and discipline. If your child’s bored, distracted, or just needs a constructive hobby, music is a great place to get them interested in something that will help them feel better about themselves, and the effects will be felt across everything else they do, through better studying habits to a more patient, diligent work ethic.

It’s also relaxing! Stressed about work? Need an escape? Everybody has the power to learn an instrument. Seriously, there’s no such thing as “talent.” Just start lessons and get practicing! It really is that simple, and I’ll guide you through every step of the way.

I have a diverse background teaching students of all ages, from 3-year-olds to retirees alike, customizing what we learn to the individual student. We’ll learn how to read music just as easily as you read words; improvise and compose music of our own; and feel good playing any style: classical, jazz, rock, and all. My experience as a working musician in films, musical theater, and pop music, as well as classical concert music, allows me to appreciate and teach styles that many other instructors overlook, and I know full well that learning an instrument is not about becoming a professional; it’s about being able to connect to others or oneself through music… and also to just have fun! There’s no need to learn music we don’t like! It’s not about stuffing Beethoven into your kids’ ears… we just want to make music, be that Beethoven or Billy Joel.

Learning an instrument is one of those few skills that will genuinely last you your whole life. I don’t want to sugarcoat it: it takes time to learn an instrument. It takes practice, and sometimes it’s frustrating. But the results are well worth it.

Now get out there and make some music! But start by signing up for lessons. I can’t wait to get started!

---

“What’s that chord?” “Why does all my music sound the same?” “How do I fix this voicing?” “I just can’t get it out of my head!” …sound familiar? You’ve probably hit a rut. Or maybe you’re just starting out. Either way, you want your music to sound new, exciting, and to come out exactly how you hear it in your head. Yes… you CAN learn to compose music, you CAN learn to be more creative, and you CAN learn to share your sound with the world.

Film music, classical, jazz… whatever your interest, all music comes from the same place, and by learning a handful of basic concepts, you can apply these to whatever style you’re trying to write. Learning to emulate another musician involves knowing what they’re doing. Learning to create a groundbreaking sound requires that you know what’s already been done, and how to achieve it. Step by step, we’ll work our way there.

We’ll learn how to write cool, interesting chord progressions, how to write beautiful melodies, and how to voice chords. We’ll learn how to control the mood of our music, from making it sound relaxed to adding tension wherever we want. Maybe you’re trying to write for an orchestra, or just a small band. By learning the basics, you can then easily break away from what’s been done and come up with something truly new… the goal of any aspiring composer!

Piano lessons with me will cover 3 main things:

Theory - reading music, rhythms, etc...all the building blocks that make up music.
Technique - taught with warmups, to be incorporated and reinforced in pieces.
Musicianship - how to play a piece of music expressively!

While each lesson is tailored to each individual, a typical lesson will begin with a warmup, incorporating both technique and theory; next we usually move on to the pieces that the student is working on. Students often work on two at once--one is in the process of being polished and the focus is musicianship, and another will be new so the focus will be on the mechanics and make up of the piece. At the end I like to wrap up with theory, which is usually a written assignment out of a theory book.

During the lesson I takes notes on a Daily Practice Sheet template, writing down each item we covered and leaving detailed instructions on how to practice (I'm a big fan of isolating trouble spot in order to tackle them--divide ...

About Rosalie
I have been playing music and singing for as long as I can remember. My mother is a piano teacher so I grew up listening to piano and I started lessons with her when I was 4 years old. I learned through the Suzuki method, so I was constantly listening and singing along to music. I've performed solo, competed, performed in duets and trios, accompanied singers...been the singer someone else is accompanying...often I do both at the same time.
While I focused on piano I also sang in choirs, plays, camps, etc. At age 14 I started taking private voice lessons--I had decided that I was serious about it, and ready to trade in my private cello lessons for voice lessons. I studied voice all throughout college covering opera, musical theatre (what I'm most passionate about), jazz, and pop. I've performed in multiple choirs, musicals, cabarets, and
a cappella groups.

Every career in music starts with a moment of pure musical amazement:

Wow! How can I do THAT?!

Ultimately, my job as a teacher is to help you or your child find THOSE MOMENTS in their own musical education. I am not the Russian teacher with a ruler who slaps the knuckles of a student who flubs their C major scale. I'm the teacher who shows you what learning scales can DO for you. Although student accountability is key, I realize that the biggest part of my job is giving you a reason WHY you should practice and illuminate the beautiful things that can be accomplished with discipline and explored creativity. To do so, I use my holistic understanding of music to expose my students to musical styles, genres, and performance approaches that unlock their creativity and expand their worldview.

I received my Masters in Film music composition from the University of Southern California. I teach piano, guitar, bass, mandolin, drums, composition, songwriting, and audio productions. But my ...

About Alex
I am a diverse musician who loves sharing my passion for music. Not only am I a professional jazz pianist who studied classical music with renowned concert pianists at the University of Houston, I am also a professional film composer in Los Angeles where I received my Masters in Screen Scoring from the University of California.

Although I have many different areas of expertise, the common thread that unites them is a holistic understanding of music, authentic musical performance, and a curiosity to grow musically. As someone who writes music for 90-piece orchestras, jazz bands, or even a musical theater number, I pride myself on being able to meet the needs of literally any student. No matter the music. Whether it's heavy metal rock riffs, classical sonatas, or jazz improvisation, I have made my living writing and performing all of the a

Reach out for lessons if you are curious to expand your musical tastes, and have interest in being CREATIVE while you play, not simply reading off a page like a robot. Outside-the-box students are some of the best to work with, and I appreciate any students that are driven to learn and expand what they know!

Hi, I’m Sarah Langley, and I’m a music teacher and coach working in Los Angeles. I’ve studied music my whole life, and my greatest passion is sharing it with others. As a singer and multiinstrumentalist, I’ve taught students of all ages, abilities, and interests. I’ve helped pro musicians brush up on music theory fundamentals. I’ve helped comics find their full vocal range, and seen them get big laughs on stage as a result. I’ve gotten to work with A-list actors in preparation for upcoming roles, and I’ve been privileged enough to help kids with special needs feel a sense of pride in their music.

About Sarah
I am a professional teacher, singer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist. I graduated from Furman University with a Bachelor of Music Performance in trombone and voice. I also earned a Master of Music Education from Belmont University.

My students can expect improvement each day with my guidance. I pride myself in taking a very tailored approach to teaching private music; the one-on-one medium of private lessons provides the perfect opportunity to address the particular strengths and weaknesses of each student. Everyone has strengths that should be built upon, and I teach around each student’s innate gifts. I teach with the goals of musical fluency and joy In mind. My purpose is for each of my students to be able to sing and play whatever they want, whenever they want! It’s that simple.

I teach students of all ages and exper
ience levels, but I specialize in beginners. As someone who has played at all levels and has recovered from a lot of musical baggage, I realize how the beginning stage of music study is crucial to lifelong enjoyment. I began playing piano at the age of 5, taught myself drums at 10, played trombone in band starting at age 11, learned other brass instruments along the way, picked up a guitar at 14, and began studying voice at 18. I’ve performed in the Grand Ol’ Opry, the greatest cathedrals of Europe, and Carnegie Hall, twice. I have also learned to cope with my ADHD and I’ve taught students with special needs. I know how to learn and I can see the obstacles we all have to learning what we want. I simply see the potential in every single student. This is my unique gift as a teacher.

I've been teaching piano for over a decade now to both kids and adults of all ages. I love teaching beginners! We start with familiarizing ourselves with the layout of the keyboard, basic music theory, fingering techniques and chord structure. We quickly progress to making melodies and learning basic arrangements of pop songs or songs of your choice. If you want to learn to play classical piano, we then learn to read notes and start with easy versions of your favorite classical pieces. It's a step by step process that yields quick results. And most importantly, it's fun! Music is a great outlet for self-expression. We can work together at my house or yours (travel though is a bit extra), or online. See you soon! :) Sara

About Sara
I'm a professional musician, singer, songwriter, and recording artist. I have released three records and have been signed to Nettwerk Records and Secret Road Music. My songs have been featured on Grey's Anatomy and in a national Chevy commercial, which ran during the Winter Olympics. My main instruments are piano, guitar, and of course, vocals.

I have been teaching music for almost two decades, having started as an elementary school music teacher. Since that time, between recording and touring with my band, I have developed a thriving teaching career working privately with students of all ages, from as young as 4 years old, to adults, and everything in between.

While I'm currently a pop and folk songwriter, my early training is in classical piano, so I greatly enjoy teaching students to read music and to play classical pieces. How
ever, many students come to me simply wanting to accompany themselves singing contemporary songs or pop and jazz standards -- or even learn to compose their own songs! For this approach, I use a tried and true method of fingering techniques and scales, chord patterns and shapes, and ear training. In this case, reading notes is not necessary, and you will quickly progress over only a few months to playing simple arrangements of popular songs of your choice.

Students who come to my house in the Hollywood Hills will find a welcoming, creative home teaching studio and will enjoy a reduced class rate. Traveling to you will be a bit more. Online classes are always an option. I look forward to guiding you - or your child - on a new and exciting musical adventure that will last a lifetime!

See you soon :),
