The first lesson was great. She explained some of the fiddle's background, how to hold it, and how to play it all in an interactive way. The time flew by. My daughter is very enthusiastic about the lessons & even more excited about the fiddle than before the lesson. Kathleen is awesome.

Students can start from the very beginning or come in to improve technique, sound, skills, ear training, intonation, and reading music. Students work on scales, exercises for tone and coordination, vibrato, solos, audition music, and orchestral music. I can recommend many youth orchestras in the area. Some of my students work on auditions and music for All Southern Youth Orchestra and All State Youth Orchestras. I go at the student's pace and also start out many beginners. Students learn to sight read and practice rhythm exercises to prepare for orchestra auditions and playing with other musicians.

About Jill
Please check Jill's Takelesson's calendar for lesson availability. If you sign up for lessons, they are weekly lessons and you are reserving the same time per week. Weekly time changes are not possible at this time, so please select a Recurring Plan and lesson time when you sign up and no Schedule as You Go plans. Thank you

She performs classical, pop music, and jazz and plays reggae music, top hits, movie music, and rock for professional violin events as a solist and with a violin and cello duo.

Jill is patient and has a variety of students and able to adjust to each student's personality and needs.

Students learn vibrato and shifting to other positions and learn from etude exercise books, scale studies using Carl Flesch books or Essentials for Strings books, and Sassmanshaus Early Start on violin, a fun method book for young violin students.

Etude books used: Wolfahrt, Kreutzer, Rode, Dont, Fiorillo, Gavines, and exercises from Schradiek and Sevcik. Composers and literature taught: concertos by Vivaldi, Bach, Mozart, Haydn, Hoffmeister, Stamitz, Mendelssohn, Wieniawski, and Kabalevsky to name a few. Experienced teacher of 30 years available for eager students of all experience levels and ages. I structure my lessons so students learn what they want to learn, while also building a strong foundation of classical skill. I specialize in classical music and provide multiple playing opportunities for my students throughout the year.

About Angela
EDUCATION

My musical education began while sitting on my mother's lap as she taught piano lessons. I began studying cello with a member of the Kansas City Philharmonic at age 9, and at age ten, I followed in my mother's footsteps to play the flute. I played all three instruments, (piano, cello and flute) until high school when it was became clear to me that I wanted to be an orchestra teacher. With this dream in mind, I began playing the violin as well.
I graduated from Drake University with a Bachelor's in Music Education in 1989 and again in 1999 with a Master's degree.

PERFORMANCE EXPERIENCE

As a youngster, I was the youngest member of the Kansas City Youth Symphony and the Kansas City Cello Choir performing with these two groups for eight years. I was chosen from applicants nation wide, to perform in Carnegie Hall and trav
el Europe with "America's Youth in Concert" and I was a three time All-Stater.

While attending Drake University, I played in the Drake University Orchestra and the Des Moines Symphony, and I was the winner of the Young Artist Competition awarding me the honor as featured soloist with the Drake Symphony Orchestra.
In 1993 I began playing with the Encore String Trio. This trio plays on a regular basis for weddings and receptions.
I currently play cello in the Encore String Trio, and viola in the Long Beach Community Orchestra.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

My teaching experience includes nearly 30 years of private teaching. I've had the pleasure of teaching all areas of music; elementary general music, band, choir and orchestra. During my 20 years of teaching orchestra in the public schools, I implemented many innovative opportunities for my students such as children's concert which drew more than 700 people in attendance, strolling strings, cello choir and a viola choir, all of which proved to be very motivational for the students. My goal of teaching is to make music fun for all.

PHILOSOPHY

I believe music should be fun. I provide you with several playing opportunities throughout the year, ranging from solo to group playing. I provide large group playing opportunities at Christmas and at the recitals. Every group playing opportunity is accompanied with food and games for all. This studio is FUN!

*** Lesson Details ***
Whether you are studying for recitals, competitions, a music career or just for fun, you can expect equal attention to technique and musicianship in your lessons.
Lessons will be tailored to each students needs which may include flash cards, supplemental materials, ear training, sight reading, technical studies, scales, and solo work.
You are never to old to learn to play an instrument. Over half of my students are adult beginners. Because of this, I provide group playing opportunities and I organize a solo ensemble contest for my students. This gives opportunities to the adult beginners that they missed out on as a child. You will have a lesson by yourself, monthly mini recitals in my studio, and you will have the opportunity to play orchestra music as a group all right here in my studio. You are guaranteed to learn how to play your instrument, have fun and gain great friendships here in this studio. I'm looking forward to introducing you to our studio family.

*** Studio Equipment ***
The teachers studio is in a large room with multiple windows for natural light. The room includes instruments and stands in the middle of the room.

*** Specialties ***
I use the Suzuki method books. I am a classical player and I teach classical music.

I can help beginning students on viola learn the basics.

About Thomas
Thomas J. W. is an active music teacher, composer, adjudicator, and clinician in the greater Philadelphia area. He has over fifteen years experience as a concert band director, marching band director, jazz improvisation instructor, choral director, private instructor, and marching drill writer. His directing career has included small rural band programs, small metro programs, large high-achieving suburban programs, and non-profit youth bands. In addition to his band compositions, he also has over forty unpublished vocal arrangements to his credit, most written for use with collegiate men's a cappella groups. Thomas taught over 600 online and local private music lessons in 2016.

Thomas has a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from The Pennsylvania State University. He holds a teaching certificate in the states of Pennsylvania
and New Jersey and has taught at the secondary level in both states. In addition to both instrumental and choral ensembles at Penn State, Thomas was a student leader in the Penn State Blue Band and a member of the brass section of the Cadets of Bergen County Drum and Bugle Corps in 1993 and 1994. He served as an Associate Director of the Warren Junior Military Band of Youngstown, Ohio from 1995 to 2005. He also served as a visual staff member for the renowned North Penn Marching Knights of Lansdale, PA for one season in 2004.

He is a current adjudicator with Drum Corps International and Cavalcade of Bands. He is a member of MENC, PMEA, NJMEA, ASCAP, CASA, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and the National Band Association. He appeared in the Marquis Who's Who Among American Educators in 2004 and 2005, an honor rarely bestowed upon teachers, as students who appear in the Who's Who Among American High School Students must nominate them. He currently is a music teacher at the Center for Performing and Fine Arts of the PA Leadership Charter School in West Chester, PA and resides in Downingtown, PA with his wife and two sons.

Thomas will happily work with students on the autism spectrum or students with ADD.

*** Lesson Details ***
My lessons are tailored to the needs and interests of each student. If a student is involved in school music ensembles, we will work with their lesson books from school in addition to material outside of the books, including SmartMusic, Noteflight, and teacher-created materials. We will focus on building proper tone production and individual technique - something that often is difficult to learn in a large ensemble setting.

I am capable of starting a beginner student on any band instrument including percussion, any classical string instrument (violin, viola, cello, string bass), and piano. I can begin a student on drum set and work with them through their first method book, but I would then recommend they find a specialized drum set teacher after a period of six to twelve months.

For advanced students, I work from selected conservatory etude books on developing advanced skills and can work with students on audition pieces for honors bands/orchestras or college auditions.

My lessons are a half-hour once a week, with the option of working for 45 minutes or 60 minutes.

*** Specialties ***
music, band, orchestra, flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, saxophone, trumpet, french horn, trombone, euphonium, tuba, violin, viola, cello, string bass, piano, Percussion

Being a violin and viola teacher for the past 25 years, I love imparting to my students the how-to of tone production, and can teach from beginner all the way to conservatory auditions!

About Stephanie
I am a career musician, and conservatory trained violin, piano and vocal instructor with over 40 years teaching experience, and a resume spanning many pages. I also am a well endorsed composer and public speaker. Furthermore, I LOVE teaching! I am a competition judge, member of National Music Teachers Association, and Suzuki Association of the Americas. I have proven results, as documented on my students YouTube channel. With my instruction, you will learn quickly and most importantly, correctly, saving you time and resources as you reach your musical goals. Fact: One of the only activities that activates, stimulates, and uses the entire brain is music, so let's get started!

Some people have difficulty reaching a teachers' studio. For this reason, I have perfected my ability to teach via Skype or FaceTime. It is an advantage f
or my students to be instructed by a quality teacher. It's worth a try, isn't it?

Please note: I only accept weekly lesson students. Also, due to my performances, I'm not always able to this calendar up to date....so when you request a lesson time, allow me to communicate with you, if we need to adjust it a bit. It almost always works out if you don't mind doing that.

*** Lesson Details ***
All the students on my Student YouTube channel who have studied under three years, are practicing 2 hours a week, and you will have a similar result. That's 20 minutes a day, 6 days a week. Students under 5 practice about 5-10 minutes a day.

Please have an assignment book that lies flat, and keep it next to your music books as you practice between lessons. My instructions are very detailed to insure your best progress.

Studio Equipment
For on-line lessons, you will need a quiet place, and please test your sound and video prior to beginning of lesson. For students under 13 or so, do have a parent or caregiver taking notes while we work together.

Specialties
I have much experience with various learning styles, and in fact, am featured in a documentary made of one of my autistic students.

Hello! My name is Taylor, and I'm so glad that you're interested in learning more about the viola! The viola is a very unique and special instrument in that it has the deep, rich tones of the cello along with the virtuosic potential of the violin. Although held in a similar way as the violin, the viola requires a different set of skills to be able to be performed at its highest level. During your lesson, I will make it a point to help you achieve and master this skill set, along with helping you develop your overall tone, musicality, and knowledge of theory. Along with this, we will also work on music that is not only beneficial to your overall technique, but that it is something you want to play. Whether that be classical, contemporary, or even music from the radio, we will make sure that your interest in viola is nurtured and that your experience is enjoyable and filled with a desire to learn and love the viola more and more with each passing lesson.

About Taylor
Hello! My name is Taylor and I'm so glad that you're interested in music! Here's a little bit about myself. I am currently enrolled at CSULB as a senior and I am majoring in viola performance with a minor in psychology. I have been playing violin for nine years, and I have been playing viola for four years, both with private instruction. Along with violin and viola, I also play cello, French horn, marching percussion, mallet percussion, piano, and guitar. Along with enrolling in and passing seven AP classes in high school, I was part of the marching band and winter drumline along with an outside orchestra that allowed for me to perform solos across the US and Europe. I have performed music at Disneyland, the Walt Disney Concert Hall, Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, Segerstrom, the 2012 Olympic Games in London, Prague, multiple churches
and castles in England, France and Germany, such as the Bristol Cathedral, Mont St. Michel, the Chambord Castle, and St Nikolai Church. Music is my passion and gives me an outlet for expression no matter how I'm feeling. Aside from music, school is very important to me, and I am proud to say that my GPA is a 3.9. I also enjoy video games such as Kingdom Hearts and Overwatch, I love learning new languages and studying science, and I love taking care of my three rabbits!

I play viola and violin and am comfortable with teaching both!

About Carly
Hey there! Here's a little about the violin lessons that I teach.

For me, the absolute best thing about teaching violin is watching the student realize they've accomplished something they once struggled with. It's so fulfilling when my students are proud of the work they've put in. Becoming a violinist can be a lot like putting together a 2000 piece puzzle. It's really difficult at first, and there's a lot of different pieces you don't know where to put yet. Often times you just have to take a break, walk away, and come back to it later because you've been staring at it for way too long. You might leave feeling like you barely put any of it together, but don't fret, the next day is always easier! Eventually, pieces of the puzzle start to form into distinct parts of the picture, and you have a greater sense of intuition for where all th
e remaining pieces will go. The process itself gets easier down the road, because you've developed strategies and have spent so much time looking at your goal, i.e the finished picture on the box.
My role in this little analogy is to ensure you like the puzzle enough to keep going, give you hints on where to put pieces, and to show you the things you've put together that might have otherwise gone overlooked. All of which are easy for me to find simply because I, too, have done this puzzle before!
