Learning how to play the bass is much like building a relationship with anything you believe, care, cherish, or love. With over ten years of professional experience playing bass in all styles and genres, I believe together we can set key learning outcomes and joyfully help build your confidence as a bassist. Whether it's learning your favorite bass line, or building upon new concepts, I will give you the tools you need to build a healthy relationship with your instrument in a safe and fun environment. My goal for you as my student is to reach your musical potential while having a wonderful time!

As an experienced Jazz Upright Bass player with two jazz degrees you can expect to learn the great role of the bass in Jazz! I also teach bluegrass bass techniques and beginning classical arch technique.

I aim to instill a love of music and of the instrument through both student guided song selections from popular genres and movie/video game soundtracks, as well as the pedagogy and technical exercises that are required to play the double bass. I complement this with various etudes and repertoire from both the classical and jazz idioms to create a bassist that not only knows how to groove, but has a solid command of the bass.

With or without a bow, upright bass students that study with me can learn a variety of styles (classical, jazz, bluegrass, etc.). Lessons include focus on intonation, dexterity, and rhythmic independence with special attention to having a comfortable approach to the instrument. Students will always have tangible representations of their work through recordings and personalized musical guides.

I am a Bass Performance student at UGA. I love to teach upright bass in all styles! I personally play jazz, classical, funk/jam, musicals, rock, and bluegrass. I love to help students get their low notes sounding good and grooving!

My name is Jerry. I LOVE music and passing my knowledge on to others. I have played many different instruments in many different kinds of bands. It all one major thing in common, it was FUN! If you are not having fun while learning an instrument you won't want to learn. Lessons can be fun AND educational at the same time. I have had many parents tell me I'm one of the best teachers they have ever seen. (A couple of them were public school teachers themselves). I truly want my students to succeed and I will do everything in my power to help them accomplish that!
